Happy Monday Ducks!

My W&D training update: I did my 7 miler on Saturday, it went well.
My long runs to come are: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 8, 13.1.
Less than 7 weeks to go!

Yes!! I found a fellow WISHer on the Marathon Relay partner thread! Kristi1357 was also looking for a partner. So we signed up before the last price increase in early July. :thumbsup2

I'm still taking it easy on the knee by not pushing too hard. Overall it feels good, so ever so slowly I'm increasing the running time/distance. I finished today at a 13 min/mile pace. Assuming I can get that down a wee bit over the next few months, and hold it for 13.1 miles, I should be good! It's a process.

That's great! Which leg are you doing?

You're smart to take it slow for the knee. That's what I'm trying to do too...and hoping to prevent my past injuries and issues from flaring.

Joe - I'm in for the RnRC and the elevator! We'll just have to wait until January to catch Liz on the elevator. If Augie's around on Friday, I'm sure he'll be in with us. Augie's drivin' the limo. I'm ridin' shotgun!

Liz - My leg issue is "calf strain". Essentially, it's micro-tears where the Achilles' attaches at the top. Not the typical place one usually has Achilles' problems. Since I've stopped using the tendon (walking essentially flat-footed), all the soreness is gone now. I'll continue to wear the boot and give it full rest until I go see the Doc on Thursday, then move onto his next stage of treatment. I'm hoping that my 8-miler will keep me "in the game" for W&D with just a few more long runs in September. My finish time may not be pretty, but I'll get there! But, like you, I've learned lots about the leg anatomy in the past week!

I saw the January Donald medal and like it! I certainly like it enough to race for it!

I also registered my niece for the Princess Half next February, so now it'll be my sister, niece, and me. The niece ran cross country in high school, so we're good to go! Are you and Carissa in for the Princess, Liz?

Off to the gym tomorrow for cross training (all upper body!)...

How's the leg doing?

As of now I'm not doing the Princess anymore, my plans changed. I'm thinking after the January race weekend I need to not do any Disney races for the rest of 2012...if I can resist! I want to hold off until the 2013 January weekend.

No Princess for me!

I saw the Donald medal yesterday and I was so bummed I wasn't doing the half this year! They did such a great job designing it. Can't wait to see the relay medal. :thumbsup2

My training has been just plain awful. A combination of pure laziness and physical issues have kept me from doing much working out at all. Each week I say, "This will be the week I get back on track!" I plan to hop on the bike this morning and the treadmill tomorrow.

I did sign my family up for a Mutt Strutt on September 18th. I don't think it's much of a race as I can't even find out how far it is! :rotfl: We'll be walking since I'll have my 3 boys with me and the dog. With my husband gone a lot it's pretty much impossible for me to sign up for any real races. Some of my long training runs this fall/winter might even have to be on the treadmill! :scared1:

Hope everyone has a great week!

I can't wait to see the relay medal too!! I think they're revealing it today?? Facebook has been acting up for me today so I don't know if they already posted it.

Good Morning to the Ducks! Hope everyone has been doing well. W&D is not too far away. An elevator ride sounds like fun, so I will be on the lookout. And a pre-race meet is in order also. I have done a race the last two weekends, last weekend was a 4 miler, and yesterday was a 5K. That one was done in the rain, but was not too bad, as one usually gets wet anyway, right? I have a few more planned, including a 10K two weeks before the W&D.

Keep up the good work, and see you soon!

That's great you're doing lotso races. My last one was the Princess...I feel sort of out of it, race-wise! Can't wait for W&D.

Thanks Guys!!! :thumbsup2

Did the new code work for you? Whatdja get? I love shopping, even if it's someone else doing it. :teeth:

It sure did. I got two pairs of mizunos (one for me and one for DW). DW was cleared last week to start training and needed a new pair of shoes. We went to our local store and priced them but with Running Warehouse's prices and the discount we saved a little over $30/pair. You can't beat that.

So how is everyones training going? I know we have a couple folks doing the Disenyland Half in a couple of weeks and then the W&D in October. Good Luck and stay safe everyone.

Tim

hey everyone.. you all sound like you are doing so well on your running!!

I am happy to announce that I did a 10 min mile today!! it was only one mile but I did it!

I also have a question, ever since I did the Yankee 5k in the new stadium my ankles hurt after a run. I have never had this problem and was wondering what I can do to ease the ache.

I am green with envy about all everyones plans for their Disney races.. Looks like the Princess is going to be mine. Sure wish it was sooner though, I miss WDW

LadyD:Congrats on your 10 min mile. That's awesome!!!:worship:

As for your ankles, did you run the actually stadium steps? If you did that could be a cause.

Tim

What do you guys eat before a run? (Liz & Joe are probably tired of this topic on my Facebook) :rotfl:

I'm trying a bunch of different combos lately.

Karen: YAY for your 10 min. mile! THAT'S AWESOME!
And I'm jealous too about so many Ducks doing the W&D. I gotta wait til January for Disney. Boo!

I finished 8 miles this morning. Slowly working my mileage up.

I never tried combos before a run, I would think the pizza ones would make me gassy:eek:

Before my weekend long runs I usually eat a bagel or toast and drink a Gatorade and I take along clif shot or gel to have at the halfway point of my run. On the weekday runs after work I usually just eat a granola bar.

Race days I have a bagel and a banana.

The DL trip is coming up fast, I've been thinking about starting to pack, is that too soon?
I will be posting on FB as much as I can while on the trip.

I didn't do the 17 mile run over the weekend like my training schedule called for, but I managed a 10 mile run. I am going to throttle back my runs a bit until we leave for DL. I have a 10 K on Sunday, then I'll do short runs and try to get back into some cross training. I ran 4 miles today and didn't have much energy for most of the run, the last mile my legs finally started to work.

Karen: I hope your ankle gets better.:hippie: In the spring my right ankle was hurting while running and I think new shoes caused it. It took about a month to get better.

Have a good week everyone.
Joe

You are such a nut! :rotfl:

I usually eat oatmeal before my runs. I buy large containers of the traditional oats and cook them in the microwave for 3 minutes. And I add a bit of peanut butter afterwards. That was one of the difficult things to figure out during the half - not many options available at the Pop food court that morning. Liz - we'll have to plan better this year!

I had two good workouts in a row this week and am hoping to continue it today with a ride on the bike. I've been sick with a chest cold. Between that and the horrible smoke from the forest fire in town, you'd think my lungs would be in bad shape. I feel very motivated right now. I think seeing the Chip 'n Dale medal helped. :thumbsup2

Hope this weekend brought the best runs out of all of you!! Keep it up!!

Happy weekend to all the Ducksters!
I did my Running the Rails 10k this morning and finished in 1:00:55. I'll take it, the course is really hilly and it rained for 5 of the miles. I thought I took 3 minutes off of last years time, but I rechecked the results and actually added 10 seconds to this years time.

What does everyone else do for the 5 & 10k's, do you leave everything on the road and are completely exhausted at the finish? I feel like I'm really giving it my all, but I'm not collapsing at the end. I even went grocery shopping this afternoon after a short break. My legs are a little sore, so I must have pushed it somewhat.
I'd like to sign up for a local 5k and push myself and see what my limits are.
No pushing the runDisney events though, I have a lot of Park time ahead of me afterwords:thumbsup2.

Have a good week. "Go Ducks"

Hello 3D's! I am hoping to fast walk my first 1/2 marathon. I may be doing it solo.
So I wouldn't mind to be with a group to keep me going.
Currently I have worked myself up to walking 15 minute miles.
Planning on a 5K Heart walk in Sept. and maybe another Cancer walk in
October. Training outside in FL avoiding heat and T-storms can be
difficult. But I am fortunate to work at a large company so I can
also do some walking inside in A/C!!! :)

Is there a good web page for Beginner marathon training?
No idea, is there a map of the 1/2 marathon. Water? Drink too much could be bad, then not enough water is bad also. How far, or is there any facilities along the route?

I am up for the challenge either way. :)

Thanks - GO GATORS!!

I'll be doing the first leg. I'm actually planning on heading into Epcot for a bit while waiting on Kristi to finish! A little crazy? Yes, maybe. But why not?!!

What run are you doing? Wine and Dine or January? I would love to help you out but I am not going to be back in Florida for a run until Feb.

I usually drink a few gulps of water every 15 min or so.. do a search to find a schedule that fits for you.. there are a ton out there..

There is plenty of drinks and facilities on the route. that is for sure.. You will have a blast guaranteed!!!

Hi Ducks!

My W&D training update: 8 mile long run done and it went well. Long runs to go: 9, 10, 11, 12, 8, W&D. Less than 6 weeks left!

I'm so excited...my friend and I decided we're going to MNSSHP on Sept 30th!! That's instead of going to MK on Oct 1st. It'll cost us less to do the party than buying a one day park ticket. And the timing works out better...we'll be up very late Saturday night so we might as well stay up late Friday night and sleep in Saturday. Plus, it'll just be fun to go to the party!!! I love the MNSSHP parade and fireworks! Yippee!! :cool1:

Woohoo, Karen, WTG on your 10 min mile!!

Sorry about the ankles...how are they feeling?

What do you guys eat before a run? (Liz & Joe are probably tired of this topic on my Facebook) :rotfl:

I'm trying a bunch of different combos lately.

I don't have one set thing I eat before a run. For me it's mainly a matter of eating enough! I digest fast and get hungry again fast, especially during a long run. I need animal protein (beef is the best!)...it lasts longer for me. And carbs and sugar.

... I had two good workouts in a row this week and am hoping to continue it today with a ride on the bike. I've been sick with a chest cold. Between that and the horrible smoke from the forest fire in town, you'd think my lungs would be in bad shape. I feel very motivated right now. I haven't done any 10K's. And of the 5K's I've done I'm not sure I've left it all out there if by definition that means collapsing at the end, haven't done that. Even my fastest 5K (28min) I felt great afterwards. But I know my adrenaline was pumping that day (it was my very first race ever!) Good question though, we need the more experienced racers to chime in.

Welcome to the Ducks Mickeyfan74! :donald:

Are you planning on the WDW January Half?

Here are a couple half marathon training sites:
http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/

http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/half_marathon.html

I'll be doing the first leg. I'm actually planning on heading into Epcot for a bit while waiting on Kristi to finish! A little crazy? Yes, maybe. But why not?!!

I'm doing the first leg too, but I was thinking I'd head back to my resort and clean up and eat while Carissa does her leg. Then I could go to the finish. We'll see though!

Awesome! That's what we did the first time we went to WDW. We did the P&P Party because it was cheaper than a day ticket.

How are you feeling?

Still have the cough a bit but feeling much better with the cold. :thumbsup2

I definitely think you should go back to the room and eat!!

Hi Ducks, good to see everyone is hard at work! I just got back form a run, breaking in my new shoes. This is my second run in them, the first run they felt a little uncomfortable, but I losened the laces and they felt good tonight. Just wondering, does everyone's time get slower when you run by yourself? I have been tracking my runs and rides on endomundo (thanks Joe!) and have found that my times are several minutes slower thanwhen I am in a race. Guess it is the crowd and the excitement.

So, last night I signed up to be a volunteer at the Full. I will be at water stop #3, unless they change it,which they said they might do.

Five weeks to go for W&D!!

Hi Augie,
YAY for you being a volunteer at the full! Thank you! That's AWESOME!

Absolutely I go slower without a crowd to motivate me as when I am alone I'm only competing against myself. It's not as exciting. No signs, no clapping, no pep talks.

What brand of shoes did you get? I need to get new ones before the full. Was starting to feel it on my last run but I've got the Philly half in 3 weeks so I don't want to break in new ones just yet.

Glad you're feeling better Carissa.

Sounds great! Did your wife run before or is she a beginner?

Liz: She is a beginner. She is doing pretty good so far.

How is everyone doing? For all of you running DL Half good luck next week.

I hope all of you stay healthy and safe out on your runs.

Tim

Happy Saturday, Ducks! How is everyone making out with the storm? Just some light rain now, they say it will be here tomorrow morning. Good luck to those of you on the east coast!

What brand of shoes did you get?

I got a pair of Brooks. I have only worn them twice so far, but I like them. Was going to do a 10K in them tomorrow but it has been postponed.

We had the earthquake a couple days ago. Right now we have had a couple tornados hit along with the hurricane. Mother Nature is sure showing what she is made of!
