Hi Ducks!! Sorry I went through another dry spell, posting-wise. Life was busy in late May/early June due to the end of the school year. Summer vacation began last week so things are nice and calm now, and I got back into running and biking. I'm starting off slow after a month off...did 2 mile runs last week and will repeat that this week. Then I'll do two weeks of 3 mile runs, then gradually up from there to train for Wine and Dine. Less than 15 weeks to go!

...now to go back and catch up on posts... :)

Carissa~Why am I not seeing your c25k posts on fb missy?

Tim~That's great you have your Goofy training planned out. Good luck and keep us posted on how it's going in case some of us decide to give it a go one year

Robyn~I did two 5k's before I did my first half. I've never done a 10k. It's up to you where you take it after you've accomplished the 5k distance. The skies the limit! I do recommend WDW for your first half. ;)

Laura~How's your full training going? When is that race again?

Karen~Good luck with the 10 minute mile, you can do it! Keep us posted on how it's going!

Renee~I may have trained for W&D last year, but most of it was on the tm...and I did my last couple long training runs at night after the sun was down. Those were some great runs, I remember. Hopefully it'll be the same way this time.

Augie~I am SURE you could handle two half marathons in a week. You crack me up with you modesty!

Savannah/runner_princess~Welcome to the Ducks! :welcome: Glad to meet you! Congrats on doing all those halfs, especially the two WDW ones! :teeth: What kind of half training plan do you use? You must feel like an expert at training for halfs!

jenifred~That's wonderful news!! Keep up the hard work! By the way, is your name Jen?

Tanya~Great news for you too! woohoo! How has the knee felt this past week?

Everyone else~We need start of summer updates! What is your running like right now?

Hey Liz!:wave2:

You got all my races correct for the rest of this year and into 2012. Will you please change my locale from Alberta, Canada to Houston, Texas? Thanks!

Are you considering the Princess Half in February 2012? Registration opens on 5 July!:yay: You know you want to run it again...it's all about the outfit and costume. I really wish Elastigirl were a princess. I'd dress like her in a second! She's my hero. Okay, so maybe I wouldn't look that attractive in full-body spandex :rolleyes1...but she's still my hero.

Carissa~Why am I not seeing your c25k posts on fb missy?

Probably the same reason I wasn't seeing yours! :rotfl:

Had a migraine yesterday and feeling a bit groggy today (from the meds), but I'll get back on the TM tomorrow. Look for my post on FB! :thumbsup2

All of my info in the 2nd post is correct.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I have used the Hal Higdon Beginner, and the Intermediate. The most three I did without specific training, but feel like I have pretty base fitness at this point. I will probably use Higdon Advanced for Donald.

Can you add my upcoming races to the second post? I'm doing the Indianapolis Women's Half Sept. 3, the Chicago Marathon on Oct 9, andf the WDW Half in Jan!!

I am considering it. I probably won't know for sure until the winter though. I want to!

Gotcha. I use my own training plan. I took what I learned from the most popular ones and mixed them/fit them to what works for me.

So Chicago will be your first full then? How exciting!

Laura~How's your full training going? When is that race again?

On June 5, I ran the Zooma Women's Half Marathon in Annapolis, MD. It was an okay race but VERY hilly - like nothing I've ever experienced. I wrote a short report on my racing blog. Check it out: http://notreallyborntorun.blogspot.com/

Last week, I began training for the full. For long runs, I did 9 miles on Sunday, have 4 for this weekend, and then back up to 11 the next. I still plan on using the Galloway method for the long runs with a 4:1 running/walking interval.

Hope everyone is doing well. I hope to keep running and stick with my training plan. Life so often seems to get in the way!

ETA: I forgot to mention the race I am training for. It is the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC and takes place on October 30. Ooo-rah!

Liz: Great to hear from you! I was wondering where you were. I'm glad you're doing well. Also could you put me down for a race Nov. 20 Ruben Studdard Half Marathon/ maybe Full.

I'm heading down to WDW this afternoon. I am planning on running a 4 and 8 miler while I'm there. I hope everyone has a good and safe weekend.

Having lived near Annapolis before moving here, I know how hilly it is there. You got an awesome time considering the hills and how you were feeling! Wow, way to go!!

Good luck with your marathon training! Keep us posted on how it's going.

Thanks Tim. :) I added your race, good luck deciding which one. I wonder which would be better for your Goofy training?

That's great your heading to WDW, have a wonderful trip! Enjoy those Disney runs! :goodvibes

Ruben Studdard!? The big guy from American Idol has a Marathon named after him?

Okay, I just gotta tell you about my early morning runs. So far, no armadillos or skunks have been on my path. Only a suspected cross-dresser or two, but I’ll get to that.

Saturday went fine. I was out by 5:20 AM and done before 6 AM, so the sun wasn’t up yet. Great! By the way, temperatures here are 80-82 degrees at this time of the morning. This is about as cool as it will get in Houston for the rest of the summer.

Sunday morning, I repeat. Except THIS time, halfway through my run, I notice someone on the path in front of me in the dark, about a half block ahead. And they’re wearing a leotard and full tutu. Just out running. And the longer I watch this “Tinkerbell’s” gait, the more it looks like a guy. As I keep following Tinkerbell, I’m thinking to myself, “This guy likes to walk on the semi-dangerous side. Running outside in full ballerina garb, but in the dark of night, so no one can see him!” I finally catch up to Tinkerbell and realize that Tink is a 60-something year-old lady with very short white hair. I casually ask her, “Training for the Princess Half Marathon?”, as I pass her. She replies, “What?!?” Obviously not. “Nothing”, I say, “Have a good day”, and I finish up my run. I’ve no idea why she dresses like this for her runs.

Tuesday morning is a repeat of Saturday morning, only one hour earlier; out by 4:20 AM and done by 5 AM. No issues.

This morning, I walk out my front door at 4:20 AM, leaving my towel and bottle of ice water just inside the door on the floor, as usual. I lock the door, then drop the key on the porch. The dark porch. As I feel around for it, I find it, but slide it off and between the wood deck planks and underneath the porch. Ugghhh! Well, nothing can be done now, so I go for my run. And I add an extra mile on because I know it will be a while before any of my neighbors are awake and able to help me get under my fully skirted peer-and-beam house. I have no access to my tools. No flashlight. I’ve not given a spare key to anyone and I had the locks all changed the day I closed on it in late April.

I get back from my run a little after 5 AM. I pry off a small portion of the house skirting with my bare hands, only to discover a support beam right in the middle, making it impossible to crawl through anyhow. My most helpful neighbor pokes his head out at 5:50 AM to roll his trash bin to the street. I explain my problem. He laughs at his “high maintenance” neighbor lady. We discover that there’s plywood underneath the decking so the key has not dropped through and under the house, but it’s just laying flat on the plywood. No easy way to get it, short of ripping up deck boards and siding and stair railing. Long story short, he ended up calling a locksmith for me, who turned up in about 30 minutes. $118 to the locksmith and one case of Corona promised to the neighbor later, I’m in my house, in the shower, and arriving at work one hour late. After I got home, I used specialty tweezers (from the shop at work) to get the key back up and out. Then I had to nail the skirting back on the house.

So Tim. How’s your morning runs going?!? Better than mine, I hope? Have a GREAT time in WDW!

Renee - :rotfl: That was a hoot to read! I'm sure it wasn't for you at the time, but thanks for starting my morning off with a laugh. Hopefully your mornings runs will be less eventful from now on. :thumbsup2

Hi! to all my Duck friends:hippie:
I haven't been doing a good job keeping up on the boards, but I have been running.
Welcome to the new ducks:thumbsup2

My 10k I run two weeks ago went good, but I didn't get the time I was hoping for, I managed a 1:00:16. I thought I was running faster by my gps program on my iPhone, but it turns out that the program wasn't tracking very well. It was telling me I was running a 8:30 mile pace (which was my goal), but I was really running a 9:40 pace. I had a difficult time at the start, it was crowded and I couldn't get into my interval rhythm. I did feel pretty good after the race and was able to walk around town and try some food during the Taste of Ann Arbor event that afternoon. Debbie ran here first 10k and did awesome. We have another 10k in the morning, so we will see how that goes.

Liz: Put me down for the Solstice 10k this Saturday and the Running the Rails 10k on August 21st. Oh and did I mention that I'm doing the 2011 Wine & Dine:cool1:?
:banana:I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!
I was content with not doing this race, but Debbie decided she wanted the Coast to Coast medal, so she twisted my arm .
I got our plane tickets tonight and I am going to attempt to get a DVC room at either Beach Club or Boardwalk (I'm sure it's a long shot). If no luck on the long shot we are booking one of the Port Orleans resorts.
Have a good weekend everyone, I will post after tomorrows race and I will put up some pictures on FB.

Joe

Hi Everyone! I'm back from the College Program and I miss staying on track with this board! I'm back now!

I did get to run a little bit during my college program and actually did the Everest 5K with my best friend during the program. It was an amazing experience.

Now that I'm home, I have two races scheduled as of right now. One is the Delaware Hospice 5K race. I participated in the race last july for my grandmother and after she passed away in the hospice care, I swore that I would keep this promise. This race is July 13. The other race is Sept. 3rd and is a 10k for the crab derby.

I've started running every other day with my fiance. He's getting ready for a PT Test for the air force in august and it's good for us to run together.

Woo hoo! :cool1: Joe and Deb are coming to W&D!:dance3: Come on, Joe. You know women like their bling. You thought Deb would pass on this oppoertunity?!?

BTW - I saw Tinkerbell this morning on my dark run. But she wasn't running this morning. She was riding her Schwinn bicycle. In full ballerina regalia! If I hadn't seen her before and knew she was "out", she really would have startled me. The scary part? She looks normal during my daily run now. Scary.

Renee~Lol!! Your "Tinkerbell" sightings are so funny. There are some interesting people in this world!

Joe~Yay for you and Debbie doing W&D!

Megan~Welcome back from the CP! I hope it was a wonderful time for you! That's great you did EE! How nice you're doing that 5K with your grandmother in mind. :goodvibes
What's the name of your Sept. 3 5K? I tried to search and didn't find it.
