Man! Take a few days off from the boards and I'm four pages behind. :scared1:

On the TM for 2.5 on Thursday. No issues.

To our new and returning Ducks - :welciome:

Liz - Glad to hear the toe isn't broken. Have fun at the Princess 1/2.

Shannon – WTG with the 10 miler!

Ronda – WTG with the 5 miler!

Everyone - Stay on track, and keep up the great work!

:cool2:

I can't imagine running barefoot....no offense to the people who do it, but isn't that kinda...not smart shall we say? You step on something sharp, cut your foot and you could be done. :confused3

Robyn~I'm sorry to hear that about your dd's friend! Poor girl. :(

If you saw my thread all to myself, lol, I did go ahead and place an order for my same Asics 2150's on runningwarehouse.com using the WISHD code for just $50.90! Love it!

I scored another pair of Brooks Defyance for $50.90, too. I had been running in stability shoes and the switch to neutral has seemed to help. Between my high arches and the wear pattern on the soles, I decided I was not an over pronator. So far, so good.

Today was 12 miles. I tried running in the snow last week and really hated it. This week, back to the treadmill. Good podcasts to pass the time. I was just under a 12:00 pace. Happy with that.

Ronda

Hi, all you triple Ds! I've been absent for a loooong time (after the Goofy in the snow in 2010, I promised myself I would focus on my dissertation for the next year and forsake marathon weekend 2011 :charac2: ). But I just discovered that the Princess is in February now (see, I was so focused I didn't even read my disney endurance events emails!), and as it happens I am going to be there the week leading up to it anyhow, so....this disney running thing is kind of like crack, isn't it?

So it got me thinking about the WISH gang (okay, I already was...I saw a bunch of pix and posts on FB from marathon weekend and turned WISH green with envy), and i thought I'd pop in and see how the ducks have been doing. Good to see that you seem to be going strong, and to see all the ducks, both old and new!

Hope everyone's runs have been good and their lives even better, and that 2011 brings everyone wonderful things!!

Happy Saturday everyone!
Liz: I'm glad your toe isn't broken:thumbsup2, you should be back in your new shoes in no time.
Thanks for the RunningWarehouse, WISHD code, I didn't know about this before. I will keep that in mind the next time I order something.

No snow suit to run in this morning, it was -7 wind chill, so I went into the basement instead. I managed 5 miles on the treadmill. No problems, legs felt pretty good.

Here is my 2011 running event wish list (if I write it down maybe I will be able to do them all:wizard:)
Champion 5K for ESPN the Weekend (registered) March 5th
Exhibition Everest Challenge (teamed up with Debbie) May 8th
Dexter / Ann Arbor Half Marathon (did the 10k last year) June 6th
Disneyland Half Marathon (I want that Coast to Coast medal)
The Wine and Dine Half Marathon (I'd like to do the relay with Debbie this time)
All the Disney ones might be tough, I just have to keep an eye out for cheap flights.
After seeing these, I think it just got tougher to stick to my cutting back on the vinylmations

These are the droids that I'm looking for!:lmao:

Have a good week everyone!

Joe, do you want me to keep an eye out for those vinylmations for you while I'm there for princess?
Happy Saturday everyone!

Erica Did you finish your dissertation? What's the topic?
Welcome back! :wave2:

Has anyone felt kind of bummed or a little down after the race?
I'm in such a funk lately that I wonder if that is why.
Well, school & work are crazy too - so that could also be it. :confused3

Joe, do you want me to keep an eye out for those vinylmations for you while I'm there for princess?

Thanks Laura, I will be back down in 3 weeks for 4 days before I have my National Meeting in Orlando and I will be back a week later for a family vacation. I am going to try to be at Main Street to cheer you on during the Princess.

Can I ask everyone... how often do you exercise (be it running, walking, something else)? I have never been much of a runner (mostly treadmill walking/short bursts of jogging) and mostly do pilates/yoga. I am doing the C25K program (just completed my first week) and hoping to do my first 5K in April. My mind starts racing ahead to a 10K/Half. But I am just curious if you are not training for a race are you still running every day? How many days/week do you have to do it to stay conditioned? Maybe b/c I have never been much of a runner this is a new way of thinking for me - that running will just become part of my life. I hope I am not confusing everyone. Thanks!

Robyn: I try to run 3 days a week (Monday short run 3-5 miles, Thursday 5 miles with an attempt to do speed work and a long run on Saturday, at least 8 miles) That is my schedule when the weather is better and I can run outside. I am trying to get back into that routine. I also cross train 2 other days, usually weight machine, stationary biking and core workouts. I really like to swim on my cross train days (good low impact workout), but the pool at Bally's is really bad, cold water and falling apart. I will not be rejoining Bally's after it expires in February.
I started running January 15 last year with the goal of doing the Wine and Dine last October and now I am hooked. I look forward to the weather turning and not getting dark early, so I can get back outside and run.:thumbsup2
Keep following your plan and you will do good.
Joe

Robyn, I try to do something MOST days (running, lifting, walking, etc.)
Now keep in mind, I am also an Exercise Science & Wellness professor (who is also a little neurotic).

Sometimes it's just playing w/my daughter - I'm the crazy Mom who bounces on the inflatable bouncy things at parties, goes scooting w/her, crawls thru McDonald's play areas, etc. :rotfl:

I started training for my first half/full last March & I am LOVING running!
Galloway has a plan where you only run three days per week in training:
http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/marathon.html

I follow Hingdon's plan, but use Galloway's run/walk ratios. I currently do 3:1

GOOD LUCK! Running is addictive!

Hey Robyn, I try to do something every day. I am a big cyclist, and almost always ride to work, which is around 13 miles. The snow has been a bit troublesome, I try to give the roads a few days to clear up and I am back riding. The coldness is not much of a problem, I have learned what works depending on the temperature. (tomorrow is supposed to be real cold :) ). I also do a lot of rides with friends in the 70 to 100 mile ranges. I run only a few times a week, and all around 3 to 4 miles. (I should work on some more distance) I have also been swimming twice a week for the last four months. Because if that I am tinking of trying a tri this season.

Have a good Sunday, everyone And welcome back Erica!

Augie

Karin: No, sadly, i am still in dissertation hell, but I can see the end at the light of the tunnel. Hoping to defend in late spring. I went back to school to get my Ph.D. in psychology, and the dissertation involves an area known as equivalence class formation, which is involved in our ability to generalize, a skill that many people on the autism spectrum struggle with. I am doing some research into the neural structures activated in neurologically typical people when forming these classes. Asleep yet? :rotfl: Thanks for the welcome back.

Augie: "The snow has been a bit troublesome" -- :rotfl2:you crack me up. The king of understatement. If I hear about some frozen cyclist found on the side of the road out east, I'll know to check for you posting here! Hope all has been good for you -- catch any good shows this past year?

Robyn: I am not an exerciser by nature, and go through some pretty slothful periods, but I try to keep myself at the point where I do something every day, even if its just some stretching and light workout with my hand weights or the like. I try to do something that an outside observer would consider a "workout" every couple of days, 3 or 4 times a week. The only time i find myself running consistently is when i have a race in my sights, though. But for me, I find that if I have kept up with a basic routine of working out, I will be okay for the race without a huge amount of training specifically for the race, if that makes sense. Keep in mind that my goal is generally to finish without fear of being swept or having a major injury, so I am not putting in the effort that many others do. Maybe once I have a little more time in my life, I can be more focused and really give it my all. :confused3 I guess my point is that you need to and will find what works for you, and that everybody approaches it differently. I think its all about balance . . . and listening to your body. Some days I "plan" to run but a good session of yoga sounds a lot more appealing, so i just go with it.

Hey everyone! I did my first post marathon run! I found an article on Runner's World that suggested waiting 2 weeks before you get back out there. Then the first run is only 8 minutes. So I figured I could handle that:laughing: It wasn't near as bad as I anticipated. (I'd read all these horror stories about how tough the first run after a marathon is.) Of course it was 7 degrees out so maybe I just went numb;)

Robyn I try to run 3-4 days a week year round. It's tougher in the winter because I don't like treadmill running. The short days and the ice sometimes force me to do it though. Unless I'm training for something specific I just stick with 3-5 mile runs. It may sound strange to you just getting started, but running really does keep me sane. My DH especially notices when I don't do it and really encourages me to get out the door.

Good for you Jenny for getting back out there for your first post marathon run - 7 degrees - I couldn't imagine!!

I have only gone out running once since the Goofy and that was last Sunday - I went for 4 miles but my knee was still bothering me so I took it really slow. I heard that you are supposed to take off 1 day for each mile you race but 39 days seems kind of long for me to sit around and do nothing. I didn't feel good Saturday night so yesterday I decided not to go out for a run. My husband said something to me about not going. It was still nice out since it didn't get too hot yesterday (it was in the mid 60's - sorry!!) so I asked him if he wanted to go for a walk, he asked where and I said we could drive to the beach but he didn't want to that. So I told him how exercise will help his Rhem. Arthritis and he should walk a little. He decided he would go with me so we ended up getting a 1 mile walk it. I was really glad he went - hopefully I can get him to out more often.

When I am not training for anything I usually like to do an easy 4 miles on Sunday's because that will bring me up to the beach and to the end of the beach sidewalk which is 2 miles from my house and then back home. Its consider it a "reward" because its such a pretty view.

Hope all the Ducks have a wonderful Monday and start the week off GREAT!!!

Robyn: During preperation for the half this year I ran 4 d/wk with my long runs on Saturdays. I also X-trained 3 to 4 times/wk. So at least some kind of exercise 5 to 6 d/wk. Now I'm just in maintenance mode for my running (still 4 d/wk but shorter distances) and working out more.

Jenny: Hats off to you and all the other ducks that get out in those freezing temps. I would have to turn my TM towards a window and imagine that I was running down the road.

Tricia: I'm not jealous of the temperature just that you get to run to the beach. That would be a great reward at the end of the week.

Robyn - I've been running two years. Started with C25K - it rocks. When not training or training for a half I run three days a week - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I'd built up to 20 mpw with 5/5/10. I'm training for a full and just added a 4th day - a tempo run on Monday - short though, 2 miles.

I do some yoga, but not faithfully. When the weather isn't stupid cold, or the roads snow packed, I ride my bike to work. That gets me an hour of biking.

Like others, I'm hooked. I love what it does to me.

Ronda

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who responded to my question. Seeing as I just started my 2nd week of the C25K I feel like I have a long ways to go before I catch up to the point where you all are at, but I am feeling really good about what I have done so far. Which is primarily 2 - 3 miles every day at just under 16 min/mile. That prob seems so lame to everyone but I feel so good when I am done. In fact, I didn't exercise yesterday and felt "blah" all day. For the first time ever I am feeling like I actually need to get on the treadmill! I can't wait for the weather to get better so I can try to get outside. This morning it was -1 when I was driving my kids to school! :scared1:

Erica, I almost went out this morning for a ride, but the fact that my daughter needed a ride to work prevented me. It would have been quite cold.... Hey, good show coming up in Brooklyn, Railroad Earth at the Brooklyn Bowl! That is an impressive thesis topic, you deserve a break :)

Jenny, nice job on the after-marathon run. I went out a week after the half, did 10 miles, and truly felt it. Goofy is a long way off for me. Hats off to you, Tricia, for all the times you have done it!

Happy rainy Tuesday afternoon Ducks! I did a 6.5 mile treadmill run yesterday, ran non-stop for the first time in awhile (at a distance longer than 4 miles, that is). Let me say that The Price is Right is a pretty good show to watch while running! LOL

Ronda~Good job on your 12 miles! And on the tm, wow!

Erica~Welcome back! :) That's great you're doing the Princess too! Looks like it'll be full soon so it's good you decided this week. princess:

Joe~Love the SW Vinylmations! (And your SW reference..lol) Yeah, you are so going home with those on your next trip... ;)

Karin~I remember after last years Marathon weekend I felt kinda blah and my running dwindled. And I think I would have felt that way this year if I didn't have the Princess to work for and look forward to! I am definitely one who needs races to motivate me, and Disney races at that. I'm already thinking I'll be doing Wine & Dine even though I said I didn't want to do it again.

Robyn~You got plenty of great answers to your question. Mine probably won't help. I can't say that I've ever gotten into a truly consistent routine for regular exercise (running or riding my stationary bike) unless I''m training for a race. I've had spurts of regularity, but having only been running for almost 2 years, I don't have much time to go on. Ideally though, I would run 3 times a week doing a 3-5 mile run, and bike 3 times a week.

Jenny~Good job on your first post marathon run! Even if it was just a short run, seems like that's a little hurdle one needs to get over. :)

Tricia~I hope you can get your dh out there more. :goodvibes
