Want to see one of my x-rays?!

myfootjan2011.jpg

They taped my first three toes one direction and the baby toe the other, so they could get a view of #4 from the side. I can't wipe the grin off my face...I'm just so relieved it's not broken!

I won't be running today as I was going to, but I am HOPING the pain will lessen enough to run this weekend. My plan calls for a 7 miler.

Ronda~Hang in there with the snow and treadmill!! WTG on your speedy 5 miles!

Joe~Cutting back on V's to save moolah for Disney...
Hope you can run outside with less than a snowsuit on!

Vic~WTG on your non-stop 2.5 mile run!

Augie~Good luck deciding between Disney and your local race... :wizard:

Thanks Carissa and Tricia!

Cool x-ray! I was thinking you must have monkey toes like me to be able to spread them apart like that for the picture. :rotfl:

When I broke my toe (still don't know for sure that it was since I was breastfeeding and they preferred not to do an x-ray since it really wouldn't make a difference), it hurt VERY badly for just a few seconds and then went numb.

If you want to stick with this team and be a Donald's Defiant Dasher, let me know and I'll add you to the Team List. :)

Yes, please! :yay:

So let me tell everyone that I found a local 5K to run here in April. It's a fundraiser for a children's hospital for kids with CP (cerebral palsy). The kids there are near and dear to my heart b/c I just graduated from nursing school and did my pediatric rotation at this hospital. Anyhow, since I started the C25K program this week I should be OK for April, right (here's hoping)? Funny I had 2 friends ask me this week to run 2 races in March (a half and a 10K). I was like no way Jose - let me do my 5K first and then I will think about doing a 10K. I really would like the run the Wine & Dine Half or the Half in Jan 2012.

Anyhow glad to be here! :)

Awesome! You'll definitely be ready for a 5k by then. :thumbsup2

Can I ask - where do you guys buy your running gear (mostly clothing is what I am looking for)? I stopped by GapBody this morning after my pilates class and found some cute stuff on sale. Any good websites? Thanks!

I've got you on the Team List Robyn! I'm glad you decided to join us! :goodvibes If you want me to put your state on there let me know.

I think you'll be ready for an April 5K. I did the C25K program starting in late Feb. of 2009, and did my first 5K in mid-May. That timing worked great for me. Keep on trucking though the C25K and you'll be just fine!

For race gear, all of mine has been purchased locally at either Dick's or Sports Authority...on sale. Ok, well except for socks, got my beloved Balega socks at a Running Store and online at sockgeek.com.

I haven't done it myself, but I've read many great reports on http://www.runningwarehouse.com/
and you can use the code WISHD for a discount. They actually have my running shoes on clearance right now so I may need to place an order soon...

LOL Monkey toes. I can splay my toes out pretty good, but not like in the x-ray!

Mine hurt like crazy for several minutes, then subsided some to a constant, dull throb and sharp pain when it was moved, etc. It felt tingly and it got swollen so it was numb to a degree.

The whole thing gives me the willies. :scared:

I've purchased several pairs of shoes and a few pairs of shorts from www.runningwarehouse.com. I've had nothing but great experiences from them. Their prices tend to be cheaper than I can find around my area. The last three pairs of shoes I bought from them I saved $40 a pair. So I like them.

Liz I'm glad to hear that you didn't break your toe. I hope it feels better soon.

Do you use the WISHD code for a discount on there?

Thanks. :)

I love the WISHD code at runningwarehouse. I get lots of shoes there. Best part of dealing with them is the free return shipping. I've tried roadrunnersports, but return anything and the VIP pricing (at my "level") is wiped out.

As for shirts I find good prices on the C9 line at Target. I've gotten some tights from Wal-mart (online). At $12 the tights are not meant to be for running, but I love them. Black, opaque, no pilling and they wick. Feels nice to stick it to the man every now and then. I've gotten UnderArmour shorts at runningwarehouse, too.

I wear Wright socks and buy them wherever they are cheap.

Ronda

Liz: I sure haven't but I promise when I buy my new shoes this weekend I will. Thank you for the heads up, it's greatly appreciated.

Joe- hope to see you guys @ the Princess. And that track @ Ballys is BAD news! I have the same issue- all the turns to one side do a number on the knee. The last time I ran it, I did 2miles, turning left. That evening my knee was screaming & the next day in PT I was whining like a kid who didn't get any Vinalmations! (wink wink)

for those of you having toe issues, 3 words: Vibram Five Fingers! I know it would seem a contradiction to go with 0 cushion, but I hav to say they have been amazing for me. They've totally transformed my running!

Liz - Soooo glad to hear it's not broken! Because, frankly, princesses don't have broken toes. And they certainly wouldn't run with a broken one!

I loved the x-ray. I saw that picture and immediately thought, "Man, she's worried about a broken toe? She's got bigger problems than that, what with those toes all bent over each other!" :rotfl2:

I have been lurking along with the thread. To our new Ducklings - Welcome to the pond! And re-welcome to the returning/migrating Ducks!

Quack on!

TGIF Ducks!

So, because I'm walking funny due to the toe, my heal and my calf hurt now. The swelling has gone down some so that's good. I've got a lovely bruise on not just the toe but up into the top of my foot. Can't believe how hard I slammed it! I was only walking!

That reminds me...For the half this month I bought a pair of black leggings at Walmart for $8 to use as throw-aways. They were exercise ones but they did have cotton in them. Anyway, I wore them for the first 6 miles and they were great....just as good as the (not so cheap) Under Armour running tights I have. It reminded me that sometimes the inexpensive stuff is just fine.

Ok, I just found them on the Walmart website:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Danskin-Now-Women-s-Leggings/10927609
They're only $7 now. And a quick glance at the reviews shows me I'm not the only runner who likes them! I could have bought several pairs of these for what I paid for my Under Armours. Live and learn!

I don't have toe issues other than slamming them into my bed. lol But I have always been intrigued by those. I just think about my poor Achilles having no cushion under it and it doesn't sound good. It would be nice to give them a try without spending so much.

:rotfl::rotfl: I know, they look so jaggedy and awful in the x-ray!

I saw one or 2 people during marathon weekend wearing as I call them "toe-shoes" I even saw a runner during the half that was barefoot:scared1: I know they say its natural or ok for you but I don't know about doing a half with that many people and being barefoot. He had a strap around his ankle that his d-chip was attached to. Definately the first time I have seen that in a half or full.

Good news about the toe, Liz! You will be good to go by the Princess.

More snow here again but got out on the bike anyway.

I saw someone running in the five finger shoes down at DW. They look hard to put on, are they?

A barefoot runner? Now that sounds a bit extreme!

Have a good weekend, everyone!

I saw a man running barefoot too. I wondered if it was against the rules? Seems a huge safety issue to me. :confused3

Liz - You know what is weird? My daughter's best friend broke her toe yesterday! A freak accident in gym class... which is unfortunate b/c their basketball team is ranked #1 in the league that the girls play in, and they have an important game to play tomorrow. Must have been freak-accidents-of-the-foot day! :rolleyes1 Anyhow hope you are feeling better today.

Thank you everyone for the clothing suggestions. I was hoping to go outside this weekend to run but it's supposed to be too darn cold. Thank goodness for my best friend, the treadmill! :thumbsup2

Unless you practice yoga they are a little tricky to put on at first, but it becomes increasingly easier. When I first put them on I had a devil of a time getting my pinky toes in. Now I just wiggle a bit and slide 'em right on.

They're a bit physically demanding and you have to change your stride to a forefoot strike. That said, I almost can't run in regular running shoes now. I always wind up with some pain or another. But with the 'toe shoes', the muscles in my feet & calves get a bit fatigued but that's it.

I'm going to run the Princess in them most likely, but I wouldn't run a really crowded race in them. I'd be afraid of getting my toes stepped on! And totally barefoot? Too risky for me.:scared1:
