Happy Sunday everyone.
Welcome back to the pond, Karen:cool1:
Hope you had a good TM run today Shanonn.

I layered up this morning and went for a run this morning, I managed 5.5 miles. It was 25 degrees and the trail was covered with snow, but it was packed down pretty good, so not slippery.

Here's a view from the trail. It felt pretty good, no problems with the legs.:thumbsup2
I'm looking forward to doing some running in warmer weather in 2 weeks when I back to Orlando for 8 days:cool1:.
Have a good week everyone.
Joe

Good evening Ducks!

7 miles on the TM this morning. Slow, steady, and no issues.

Joe - WTG with the 5.5 miler, the cold temps and the snow!

Everyone- take care.

:)

Joe!!!! I can't believe you ran in that!! way to go!! I think you should get extra points for that one;)

Best of luck and happy running, we expect more snow in a few days but I hope to get out and do a few miles before it does

Have an 8.5 miler to do today. My energy level has been unpredictable this past month...so we'll see how this goes. Fingers crossed for a decent run.

I'll catch up on posts later!

Happy Monday Ducks!!!
Joe: You are the man.:worship: Awesome job on your run.

Liz: I hope you have/had a good run today and that your energy level hits overdrive soon.

Vic: Good job on your 7 miler w/ no pain.

Hope all you guys have a good week of training.

Good evening Ducks!

Well I'm quite happy to say my run today was awesome! I wanted to do 8.5 miles but ended up going to 9 because I was feeling so good. I was tempted to go farther and make it an even 10, but I didn't want to push it. My time was 1:35:17, which I believe is the fastest Ive ever done such a long run. I'm thrilled!! I really needed a morale boost for my running and this did it. Yay!

Joe~I wish I was truly a Jedi master...those skills would come in handy with my boys!
Cool pic on the snowy trail, WTG getting out there and running in it!
I don't know if I realized your Orlando trip is 8 days long, woohoo!

Robyn~I did the January Half as my first half and first Disney race. It was wonderful. :goodvibes I liked that I was part of the biggie event of the RunDisney year for my first time. W&D was definitely different. It'll be interesting to see what the Princess is like.

Augie~Yes, we've been to SWW a couple times. It is a blast! My older two fought Darth Vader, so cool. (We knew they could do it any time of year, but we made it part of our SWW weekend experience and it was extra special.) We love the SW characters walking around the park and interacting with us and other guests. Such fun!

Vic~I read your note about moving your EOC and dispatchers...what do you do (if you don't mind me asking)?
WTG on the 7 miles!

Karen~Welcome back! :) I was hoping you'd join us again! You should do W&D!! I'm probably doing it again.

Tim~Congrats on your 8K, sounds like it went well!

Ronda~You put me to shame with all those miles you've logged this month. WTG!

Shannon~So did you end up doing a half marathon on your tm Sunday?!

Way to go on the 9 mile run today:thumbsup2. Was that outside or on the treadmill? If TM, any tips on managing a long run on it. The most I have been able to do so far is 5 miles and I didn't like it very much. The toe must be feeling better.

Vic: Nice job on the 7 miles! Running with no pain is always a good thing!

I leave the morning of the 13 for WDW and I will be soloing it until Thursday then I am off to the Doubletree near Seaworld for a Signs By Tomorrow national meeting until Sunday. I am looking forward to the trip, I think I will be spending a lot of time experiencing the park slow and easy and take a lot of pictures. I have only spent a half of day by myself at MK a couple years ago during another national meeting and I had a lot of fun, but I'm a little concerned about roaming the parks for 4 days by myself. By the third day I'm sure I will get pretty lonely. I am going to take some time for running and take advantage of the warmer weather.:hippie: Once I get to the Doubletree I will be posting pictures on FB. They keep us pretty busy during the National Meeting, but I enjoy spending time with other sign shop owners, comparing notes and learning new things.
Good week everyone!
Joe

Howdy ducks! :grouphug:

Sorry I haven't been able to keep up much around here. Just so much going on in my life right now. I did finally get out for my first run since the half this last weekend. It was just a short 1.4 mile run with my oldest son. Hoping to get on the treadmill tomorrow and run outside again this weekend.

Evening Ducks!

Hoping everyone is doing well, and not getting wacked by this crazy weather. I'm looking at a line of strong storms just west of Pensacola. Should be in our area in a couple of hours.

Liz - WTG with the 9 miler! I manage the law enforcement (Sheriff) side of a 911 center, and have 31 dispatchers/calltakers (they all do double duty). It''s a great job. Dealing with 31 personalities, not so much at times.:lmao:

Joe - I hear you about roaming the parks solo. I've done it a couple of times and I normally feel rather guilty being there without the DW. Have fun!

Caraissa - WTG with the run. Don't let that LTO get you down.

Everyone - Take care.

:)

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to check in to say I am starting week 3 of my C25K program and I feel great! I must admit I am so glad to have started this program... with all the yucky weather we have been having, getting on the treadmill is the only thing improving my mood these days! We are supposed to be getting a major ice storm tonight. I hope the power stays on so I can get on my treadmill in the morning. In the meantime, I ordered a Garmin Forerunner 110 so as soon as it gets nicer outside I can start playing with my new toy! :rolleyes1

I will check in later this week... :wave2:

Happy Wednesday Ducks!

I'm taking a rest day today. My quads are kinda sore. I biked Sunday and yesterday, with my long run in between, so I guess they've had enough for now. I love how biking works your legs in different ways than running!

Joe~My 9 miles was outside in my neighborhood. I think my longest tm run was 8.5 miles. Sometimes I actually like being on the tm because I can listen to my music. (I find anything in/on my ears uncomfortable, so no music when I'm outside.) I just listen to my music and try to think about other things. Sometimes I imagine myself running with a group of other people on tm's around me. And I know there ARE many others actually running on tm's somewhere in the world at that time (and perhaps really not enjoying themselves), so the thoughts of camaraderie help me get through it.

Wow you're going to have a lot of solo time! You're doing the Africa Trek, right? Do you have any other special plans? There's all sorts of things you could do!

Carissa~Hope you can get some good runs in soon!

Vic~Hope the storms weren't too bad down there.
That sounds like a great, and challenging, job!

Robyn~WTG on entering week 3! Running really is wonderful for the spirits, isn't it?!
I hope the weather doesn't cause too much trouble for you and you don't lose power!
That's great you got a Garmin!! You'll love it!

Wednesday Already!!!

Everything is frozen outside, a complete sheet of ice! Looks like I will be running up and down my stairs inside today. lol

Looking forward to getting outside again, I enjoy the solitude and sounds around me.. I do like running in cold weather too, just not ice.

do you seasoned runners have any great little tricks you do in snow and/or ice?

Joe

I am doing the Wild Africa Trek on Monday morning, very excited about doing this:banana:.
I want to do the Train tour at MK, but it starts at 7 and I would have to take a taxi to get there, so I am looking into it after I get checked in. I plan on spending a lot of time relaxing at the parks and not be in a hurry. I want to find Devine at AK, we have never seen her before and watch the AK parade, another thing I haven't seen. I think their is a couple Mickey ice cream bar in my future, also:cool1:.

Liz: I can imagine you using those Jedi powers :yoda:. "broccoli, you will eat" "now Finish homework", "You want to put the seat down when you're done":darth:.

I did a 5 mile run on the treadmill last night, it went pretty good. I was testing my speed and was able to run for a minute and a half on the 8 mph setting. We got a lot of snow last night, so my outside run on Sunday might not happen. Hopefully their is enough time to clear the trail.
Have a good week everyone.
Joe

Did a 2 mile run around the park,

It is still below freezing but sunny ..good run ;)

Well, i sure wish i had taken a page from your book....this stupid NY winter weather and cabin fever got the best of me and I decided if i stuck to plowed side streets without too much traffic I'd be fine. Boy, am i a moron. You know in cartoons or three stooges clips, when someone steps on a banana peel and they are horizontally airborn for a moment before landing flat on their behinds? Well, that was me at about 6 a.m. this morning. Gravity, its not just a good idea, it's the law!

So, i guess my "trick" would be not to be foolhardy and to stick to the treadmill/stairs. runnign in place inside/whatever you need to do to get through the cold, icy days...

Liz Great job on the run!

Joe Loved the picture of you out in the frozen tundra, although I blame you a little for inspiring me to brave the ice this morning...

everyonje congrats on getting it done, hope everyone who is ailing heels quickly, and most of all, stay safe and warm!

WOW, that's a lot of stuff to think about " I just think "don't fall off the back of the treadmill":lmao:.
Erica: Sorry about your fall, If I go out again this weekend I'll look like I'm not enjoying myself in the next picture .

I woke up at 3 am to order the iPhone from Verizon, pretty excited about it. I should have it before I leave on the 13th :thumbsup2. All the iPhone gurus out there, what run tracking app do you like? Does any give you the ability to track run/walk intervals? I have the Timex GPS watch that I will use most of the time, but I would like to have another option for the phone.
The price for the DL Half this fall goes up this weekend, so I have to make a decision soon, Debbie commented that she might do it with me, so that would be cool, but that might change our plans to do the relay for the W&D, if she does the full half she would qualify for the Coast to Coast medal.
Happy almost weekend everyone.
Joe

Hi Ducks! I am starting to get a little tired of this weather. More snow again tomorrow, and I was planning on heading into Brooklyn. Erica, sorry about the fall. The roads out by me are not too bad but one section of my commute is a dirt road that was not plowed too clean, and it is just curb to curb ice, which means I have to ride real slow or walk. Some of it is partially sanded. Gravity, the opposite of comedy.

Joe, good luck with the phone. I have been using that app you told me abot, endomundo, quite often lately. Does that work with the iphone also? I have to agree, a run/walk option would be handy.

Who are your super bowl picks? I don't have a preference (no Jets) but as luck would have it, my two boxes in the pool have the identical numbers, 6 & 7, so if those numbers come up, i am good either way.

Have a great weekend!

TGIF Ducks! It's a cold, rainy one here.

So I took Wednesday off with the intention of running Thursday and today. Thanks to life getting in the way (grrr!!!) that did/will not happen. Just when I think I'm getting into a workout routine, something comes up. Oh well. Hopefully I can get outside for a run tomorrow or on the tm if it's raining.

OH, get this Ducks, I smashed my foot again. The same one. I was walking behind my 6 yr old, I turned my head to talk to another son, 6 yr old suddenly stopped and my foot went into his heal. OUCH. My bad toe was set back a week in healing/pain. At least it doesn't interfere with running!

Joe~You're going to have such fun on your trip...just going where the wind blows you and doing whatever.

"You want to put the seat down when you're done" LOL Yes, and even moreso: "You want to put the seat UP before you begin!!!" ;)

I worry about falling off the back of the tm too. But I worry more about stepping on the front of it and tripping. I tend to run up close to the front. I've come close and had to grab onto the bar, but thankfully I haven't fallen. I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

iPhone...I used to use the free version of RunKeeper and it wasn't so good. Once I got my Garmin I stopped looking at apps.

Good luck deciding on the Disneyland Half. I won't be doing it, just too pricey to get out there this year. I will do it one day though!

Erica~Ouch! Hope you're ok!

Augie~Hang in there with the bad weather and roads. Stay safe on your bike!

Go Packers!! :) ::yes::

Yippee I got my Princess Bib number! #5267. No idea what corral that'll put me in. A little over 3 weeks to go!
