Yeah the airfare scares me. Also, what about the time change and how it affects you sleep-wise? Let's just chat about this hypothetically.... The race is on Sunday, and you'd need to get to the Expo before Saturday night at 5pm. A flight from the east coast is how long? What airport would one fly into, LAX?

I believe a flight is 3 - 4 hours. (I'm pretty sure it's faster on the way home because of crosswinds or whatever. Or it could be vice versa. It's been a while since I've done the flight.) And, yes, that would probably be the airport I would fly into.

If I were doing it, I would probably plan for a longer trip. I have quite a few friends I'd love to visit with out there and since it is a longer flight and needing to adjust to the time difference, I would want to give myself a few days to adjust before the race. Although, can it be much worse than running on 1 - 2 hours of sleep?? :rotfl:

Hypothetical chat, my butt! You're thinking about the DL Half seriously, and we all know it, Liz! :rotfl2:

BTW - Congrats on signing up for the Princess Half! It's good to know things like, you need to declare your favorite Princess on your registration form. I think all Princesses are sissies, so maybe I shouldn't consider running this half... :scratchin

I was thinking about the men who run it! :rotfl: Guess they probably pick Cinderella so they can get a blue bib. Although, did see a few men in tutus during the half. :rolleyes1

I think Debbie and I are going to do the Everest race in May. Our annual pass expires that Monday after race weekend, so we thought it was a good way to finish a great year with the AP. :thumbsup2
Joe

Liz and I were talking about this race and how cool it sounds! If you guys do it, I want to hear all about it. :thumbsup2

The time change actually works to your advantage. 6 am Cali time is actually 9am east coast time. So it won't feel like you are getting up at a crazy hour. It's also pretty easy to get out west early in the day because of the time change. You gain 3 hours on your way out. Then you lose 3 hours when you come back. I think it's usually about a 5 hour flight, but if you can get direct only 2 hours of clock time passes. (Does that make sense?) I'd look into flying into Orange County. It's lots closer to DL. Of course I'd do LAX if I could get a direct flight and there were no direct into Orange County. San Diego is also not too far away. It's a little over an hour if traffic isn't bad. The DL is different from DW though. You run through "beautiful downtown Anaheim" which is code for warehouses. You do get to run through Angels stadium (or at least we did in '07.) That is pretty cool. Big plus is there are tons of hotels that are walking distance to the start so you don't have to take transportation in the morning.

So jealous of all you ladies doing the Princess! :lovestruc
I would love to go too.

I'll be cheering you on from here & I want pictures too!

During the full I actually saw 2 guys running wearing pink flamingo hats, pink shirts and  pink tutus. People were stopping them and asking for pictures and they would stop and pose like a flamingo. I should have taken a picture but I was busy trying to keep my pace through the Magic Kingdom. That is where I last saw them - I don't think they were doing it for serious time or anything.

My DH and I did the inagural one of the Expedition Everest when it was in the end of Sept. It was alot of fun and if I can somehow come up with extra money I might see if my neice wants to do this with me this year since its in May - and we have 2 days left on our pass that we have to use before the end of May. Its just a little expensive - but isn't all the good races?

Oh Ducks, I'm feeling a wee bit worried right now. I'm wondering if I broke a toe on my right foot, the one next to the smallest toe. I smashed my foot into the foot of my bed about an hour ago. Throbbing pain has now turned into sharp pain when I move it or try to put weight on it. It's swollen and purplish in the middle section. UGH I've never broken a toe, have any of you? How long do they take to heal?!?! :( Hopefully I didn't break it and it's just really bruised.

Renee LOL Yeah maybe you should do the January Half... Although I don't think Belle is a sissy, she was brave enough to stand up to the Beast!
It was hypothetical! The chance of me flying to California without my dh and boys to do a half marathon is VERY slim. Maybe even a big old zero. I'm not sure I even want to.

Jenny I was thinking you might be the resident expert on flying out west! Sounds like it's actually a pretty good scenario with the time change.

Carissa didn't we see those flamingo guys Tricia is talking about??

Liz - healing vibes to your toe. I'm mentally hopping around the bedroom right now. Ow!

I really hope to do the Princess in 2012. If the stars align for an AP this March... I like the different bib colors. Then the DL half makes perfect sense ; )

We are getting serious snow tonight. I haven't looked outside, but it's very quiet out there. No traffic at all. Then it's going to get really cold. The snow will last and last. I talk about the weather because it means I'm hitting the treadmill. When I began running I loved the mill. After a few months I started running outside and there was no looking back. Longer distances, the moon, the birds, all of it. I will run outside down into the mid-teens, but once the footing gets bad I bail. I'm training for my first marathon. Arriving at the start line healthy is the most important thing.

Liz - I broke my toe. Hate to say this, but it took months before I could wear a tight shoe (like sneakers) without it hurting. :( Hopefully it's just bruised.

I don't remember the flamingo guys but I don't remember much from the race! LOL

Ronda, I was the same way. Loved the treadmill until my first run outside. Then I was ruined!

Great now I want to do the Disneyland Half:lmao:. I'm going to try to keep track of my expenses, so I can do a couple more Disney races this year. That means I might have to cut back my vinylmation purchases on the next trip. (nooooo!)
I am going to try to get up early and head to the magic Kingdom to cheer my Princess friends during the half. Debbie is afraid that everyone else is going to be waiting for me to get back, so we can go to Universal that morning, but I think I'll be back in time.

Liz: Sorry to hear about your toe :sad2:.
I think I broke that same toe when I was in junior high and it seems to me it hurt for a couple of weeks and got better. Hopefully it will just turned out to be bruised.

I ran 3 miles tonight on the track at Bally's, it felt pretty good, but my left knee hurt a little. All the turns on the short track, messes up my stride. I might try to run outside this Saturday, I might have to wear a snow suit, though:scared1:.

Welcome to all the new ducks and welcome back to the old /new ducks:thumbsup2.

Have a good week everyone.
Joe

I should mention that my broken toe was my baby toe. That could have made a difference in how long I felt it in shoes.

Good evening Ducks!

On the TM for 2.5 last night. Actually jogged the entire thing. Kind of surprising since I haven't jogged regularly for such a long time. I guess there is hope.

Liz - Hope your toe is ok.

Joe - If you cut down on the vinylmation purchases I'm sure my wife will make up the difference. :)

To our newbies and returnees - :welcome:

All - Take care.

:)

Thanks for the well wishes guys. My toe is not well this morning so I just set an appt. with the orthopedic doc for 10am. :( :( :(

Liz, hope the toe is just a bruise and not a break. Have done the same things several times, luckily no breaks, but it sure hurts like hell. Hope the pain is gone and you are all healed before the Princess.

Renee, just went skiing yesterday, so hope some of your snow finds it way out this way....

I might be doing the EE this year but it is the same day as a race I have done here for the past few years, a Mother's Day Duathlon, so I have to make a choice real soon. But then again, how could I turn down a trip to Disney?

I've decided that while I'm forced indoors to the treadmill I'm going to work on speed. I did five miles this morning and averaged 11:00. I'll have to look back but that's close to a record.

Liz - good luck with the doc.

Nice Job Vic.

Ronda

YAY!!!!!!!! Not broken!!!!!!! Just really smashed up. Soooooooooo relieved!!!!!!!!!! He said a week or two of pain but I can run when I want!

Augie thanks for your post. It made me feel better before my appt. :)

Oh no Liz - Hope your toe isn't anything serious especially with you signing up for the Princess. Keeping my fingers crossed its just sore. - Glad to hear its only banged up and not broken. And yeah that the Dr said you can run when you want.

Vic - that's awesome you did 2.5 miles and jogged the whole thing. I use to be able to do that once now any more than 3 minutes and I am winded. Great job getting back into it.

Ronda - Great job on the TM - I know it can be tough on the TM but better than slipping on the ice or nastieness outside.

Joe - to funny about having to cut down on the Vinylmation purchases.
