Hello Ducks! Great to run into you at the race, Joe! And I met Dan also (who came in fourth, as Joe said) I thought the race was pretty good, I wish I had not forgotten the pouch I bought at the expo last January. I thought my phone would be ok in my pocket, and it was a major problem, bouncing around. I wound up holding it for a good portion, which was not fun either. At one point in the first part before we entered the park, I thought to myself, what was I doing here, there were only about 20 people in front of me. I got passed by a few, and then got passed during the scavenger hunt, which was harder than I thought. The after party was not bad, my son and I went on Everest about 7 times, the wait time dropped to nothing as it got later. Should have gone on Kali right after the race, but it did get cool in the night. Had a problem with my luggage, we switched resorts, from BLT to AKL, and found out it was not delivered. This was an hour before the busses starte dto run, so I got worried.

And a belated Happy Mother's Day wishes to all the Moms here!

Congrats Joe and Augie! Sounds like a cool experience. :cool1:

The treadmill finally got put back together in our family room yesterday so today I am going to start C25K again. Planning on increasing my run speed in the hopes that it'll make me faster overall.

Hope everyone has a great week! :goodvibes

Quack? Quack quack?? Anyone out there?? Renee! Haven't heard from you in a while.

I came over to report that I got on the treadmill three times this week and finished week 1 of C25K. :cool1: :cool1: Planning on adding in two days of cross-training next week. Feels good to be back at it.

Wish I could run outside. Need to find an area that has a good spot nearby. I could run through our development, but really feel self-conscious doing that. Prefer to run someplace where there is water or trees or something.

There are some wildfires burning down in North Carolina and today we have an air quality alert because the smoke has moved up to us. Burns the back of your throat. Ick.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! :goodvibes

Quack!!! I'm here.

Carissa: Good job on knocking the first week out.:thumbsup2

Liz: Good job on the runs, I would not consider 2 mile runs dinky. You say dinky runs, I say maintenance runs.;) My fresh start has been nice, it's good to have a little structure.

Joe & Augie: It sounds like ya'll had a good time at the EE event. Good job on the finishes.

As for me I'm running 3/4 times per week for 4 miles per run. Just trying to build my base up to 10k range again. Hope everyone is doing great, good luck training and be safe out there.

Tim

Hello everyone!

Sign me up! I'm a new runner and I am going to do my first Half in January 2012 at WDW. I love reading everyone's stories. They really help keep me motivated!

I'm about half way through a 10K program right now and I start training for the Half in July. I have never run in any actual races yet. Based on my estimated finish time, I know I will be in the last coral. So do I really need to do a 5 or 10K before the Half in January?

Thanks!

Based on my estimated finish time, I know I will be in the last coral. So do I really need to do a 5 or 10K before the Half in January.

WELCOME jenifred!!! :cheer2: To answer your question I would most certainly run at least one race (10k) before you line up for the WDW Half. It will help you work out any kinks you may have and help you with the atmosphere (running in crowds, taking water).

TGIF Ducks! Well yesterday I finally ran more than 2 miles....I ran 3 miles! :rotfl: No, but actually, that did feel like an accomplishment for me as it's been awhile! I ran outside because it was a beautiful OVERCAST day. I LOVE sunshine, but for running, I LOVE CLOUDS!!! :)

jenifred~Welcome to the group, nice to meet you! Congrats on becoming a runner and training for the half next year! Sounds like you have a great plan and are moving along well. To answer your question...Although you don't have to do any races before the half, I agree with Tim and suggest you do at least one. I'm glad I did a couple 5K's before my first half (which was in WDW). It made the experience less intimidating. I was more relaxed since I knew the drill; the ins and outs of participating in a race.

Joe and Augie~Glad you guys had a good time at the EEC!

Carissa~Congrats on finishing week 1 (round 2!) :) I understand feeling funny about running in your neighborhood, I felt that when I first started doing it. But I've run with you and I'm telling you, you have no reason to feel self-conscious. Really. And you may inspire some of your neighbors to get out there...I love seeing the others in my neighborhood out there (running, walking, biking). There's this one mom here who runs with her two kids (toddler and preschool ages) in a double stroller. I see her running UP hills and her face is red, she's sweating like crazy and breathing hard. But she is DOING IT. And she looks great because she is doing it!!

Tim~Sounds like you're doing great. I want to run 3-4 miles 3 times per week until I start W&D training...but we'll see what I actually manage to do.

Tim - Glad to hear some quackers in return. :thumbsup2 I'd love to have every run be 4 - 5 miles long, but it just takes me too long to run that far at this point. :rolleyes1 Sounds like you're doing great!

Jenifred - :welcome: Glad to have you with us! I agree with Tim and Liz - I think competing in a race before the half would be ideal. I started running in January of last year. My first race was a 5k in October and then just two weeks later I did a 10k. Those were the only races I did before the half at Disney. But, it gave me so much more confidence and made me feel less nervous for the half (although I was still pretty nervous - mostly about getting up so early and getting to the start of the race). I highly recommend getting that first race under your belt before the half. A 10k would be nice because you might surprise yourself and get a better time than you think. Then you could show proof of time at the expo and move up corrals. That's what happened to me.

Liz - I know you're right. Our development is very small, but it connects with another that is quite large. It's like a maze of streets. I might get lost! I see people now and again out running in our neighborhood and it always makes me want to get out there. And :woohoo: for getting past that 2 mile wall. :thumbsup2

Hi to all my Duck friends!
Welcome Jenifred to the group:cool1:
Liz: Nice job on the fast 3 mile run the other day:thumbsup2
Carrisa: Way to go on the C2K training:).
I had a good week with my DL half training. I managed 8.25 mile run along the river yesterday. The last 2 miles was in a steady rain.
Debbie and I just signed up for the Solstice 10k run on June 25th:hippie:. It sounds like fun with a luau party after the run.
Have a good week everyone.
Joe

Joe: Sounds like your ready for the DL Half now. Nice job on the 8.25 mile run. :worship:
Liz: You'll be running that mileage before you know it. Just keep them wings flapping.

As for me I've finally hammered out a Goofy training plan (with the help of some dis'ers). It has me running five times a week with Thursday and Sunday as my off days. I am starting it today with a half marathon scheduled at the half way point. I'm hoping the half will give me some good feedback on the training, so if I need to make adjustments I have ample time to do it.

Hope everyone is well and be safe out there training.

Tim

Hi Ducks! :yay:

Wow, so I hadn't seen any posts coming through on this thread and was wondering where the heck everyone went?!? So I just popped over here to "resurrect" our thread and now I see all the activity I have been missing!!! Not sure what happened but somehow my subscription to this thread got dropped... oops.

Welcome to our new members! :thumbsup2

We had a fantastic Spring Break at Disney and WWOHP. We stayed at Kidani Village for the first time and loved it! My cousin currently is employed in the Magic Kingdom as part of Disney's college program so it was nice to spend some time with her. We saw Dennis Rodman hanging out in the lobby & over by the pool during our stay - he is kinda hard not to miss!

I am running 2 more 5Ks - a local race here in June and the other will be @ SailFest in Connecticut in July. At the moment I am very content running a few more 5Ks. But I did want to ask: what is the next logical step after completing a 5K? A 10K? I think the only way I will ever do a half is if it is at Disney...

Hope everyone is having a great week. The weather here was perfect last week. This week it is nothing but rain and storms, so I will be hanging out on the treadmill...

PS: Joe & Augie - Congrats on the EEC - sounds like a lot of fun

Hi Jenifred, welcome to the Ducks. I also agree with everyone, it would be good to have a few races done, just to get the feeling of what it is like and what it feels like to run in a crowd. I find that I run faster during a race, it must be the thrill of all the people and having someone to pace yourself with.

Joe, cool that you are doing another race. Is that a local one?

Liz and Carissa, nothing wrong with running out in the neighborhood. I do it once in a while, sometimes with a neighbor.. Though I usually run at work during lunch time.

Tim, good luck with the Goofy training!

Cool that you saw Rodman, Robyn. I was also at Kidani, a week later, I guess. Also stayed at BLT. I think I would like Kidani better if there was a walkway to AK.

I also have a few 5K's coming up. Two this weekend, or at least one. One in June, and an 8K on 4th of July. I really want to try a tri sometime over the summer.

Have a great week, everyone!

Augie

Hi All,
Did a 5K on Mother's Day with my DD10. She wanted me to go ahead of her, and she actually ran this one by herself. I was soooooooo paranoid because the course was on a road. After I finished, I ran back to get her. It took me a few minutes to see her (I almost hyperventilated not seeing her right away), but my little trooper made it with no training. Three miles is a long way - kids don't realize it! LOL!

I have mostly been running 3 milers lately. It is a doable distance that I prefer. However, I better get one more long run in before June 5. I am feeling kind of burnt out, but I already signed up for the Zooma Half in Annapolis. I wish I could just skip it, but this one was almost as expensive as a Disney race. Ugh!

Yesterday, in a moment of insanity, I signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon. I will be running for the Semper Fi Fund. I don't know what came over me. I swore I would only run once I finally got into New York - my only Full desire. Then, I read about MCM on Runner's World forums and couldn't get it off my mind. Somehow, I convinced three other co-workers to do it with me! They may never speak to me again!

I am going to use Galloway's Fat Burning Plan. I think for a full I will definitely need the planned walking breaks. I also think I am out of my mind...

Robyn - That's happened to me before (the subscription thing). A 10k is a good step up from a 5k. That's what I did. Ran a 5k and then 2 weeks later did a 10k. I've also done an 8k, but those probably aren't as common.

Augie - I forget - have you done tris before or just biathlons? I feel like we've discussed this before and you mentioned swimming wasn't your thing.

Laura - Will this be your first marathon? How exciting! :cool1:

I'm doing well. Sticking to the C25K program and trying to add in some cross-training. On Monday I mowed the lawn and figured that would suffice. :rolleyes1 Today I did my own routine of lunges, squats, crunches, push ups, and upper body weight lifting. I want to try to keep it fun so that I actually stick with it. This past weekend I went on a one night getaway with my middle son down to the Outer Banks and we ended up climbing a lighthouse down there. Man - what a workout for my legs!! They're still a bit sore today, mostly my calves.

Hope everyone has a great week! :grouphug:

Hello Duckies! Almost the weekend and the week-long rain appears to have ended. Hope everyone has a great weekend! I am doing two 5K's, (Sat and Sun) so that will be my running for the week. Also I am officially in for the W&D.

Carrisa, I have never done a tri yet. I was never a strong swimmer, but since october I have been coming to the pool at work two or three times a week, and I can now swim 3/4 of a mile pretty much non stop. I hope to work up to a mile. So I would like to try a tri this summer, one that has a 1/2 mile or less swim part. I might be part of a tri relay also, doing the bike leg.I have done many duathlonns, most of them the 2 - 10 - 2 type, with a few 2 - 12 - 2's in there. Those were in Central Park and the road is a 6 mile loop.

Have a great weekend!

Augie

Happy weekend to all the Ducks! (is everyone still here?;))

I had a good week with my running, this morning I managed 10.25 miles. It was a really nice day. I have been trying a new run walk interval, 4 minute run and 30 second walk. I like this better than the 5/1 I was doing before. Thursday I ran 4 miles with the new interval and managed to run in 39 minutes. (I was channeling some Liz speed:thumbsup2) Next Saturday I will be doing some speed work with 800's on a track. (next step working on some Augie speed)

Robyn: how did you like Harry Potterville? Debbie and Stephanie were in NYC last week and saw Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway and they went back to the theater a couple more times to wait out front and on the last day Steph got a picture with him and an autograph. She is still on :cloud9:.

Carissa: I miss you on FB. I haven't seen a good desert picture since you stopped your account. I had to resort looking at desert pictures on Betty Crocker, not the same:).

Augie: the 10k I signed up for is about 30 minutes north of me. I wish I was doing the W&D too.

Laura: it sounds like you will be logging a lot of race miles this year.

Tim: my hats off to you on the Goofy training. I can't imagine doing a full marathon let alone a Goofy.

Have a good week everyone!:donald:

Joe

Augie - Hope your 1st 5k went well yesterday and good luck today! :thumbsup2

Carissa: I miss you on FB. I haven't seen a good desert picture since you stopped your account. I had to resort looking at desert pictures on Betty Crocker, not the same:).

:rotfl: I miss seeing everyone on FB too. You always make me laugh, Joe! I guess I'll have to post some dessert pictures here now and then. ;)

Hi All,

Carissa - I "completed" the Disney Full in 2005, barely - I did not "run" it - at least not the second half. I think I will still consider MCM my first because I was not prepared for 2005 at all. I didn't train REMOTELY enough and could barely walk it! It was horrible. And hot. I got sick. I did not respect the distance that day and it kicked my butt. I don't recall my time but it was well over 6 hours and much closer to 7. It was a debacle. I guess that's why it has taken this long to even consider attempting a marathon again. Hot marines, the nation's capital, and a small group of friends have me motivated this time!

Today, I am off to run a 5K for breast cancer. My mom is currently battling this one. It has thrown her for a loop. She has had many complications while going through chemo and is even in the hospital today. She had to get a blood transfusion a couple of days ago. She should come home today or tomorrow.

I am supposed to run in the Zooma Women's Half on June 5 and have not done a "long run" since the Ocean City Half. I feel burned out and only want to concentrate on MCM. I should do a longer run today but feel I need to do this 5K. Maybe I will get out for a second time later. Doubtful . . .

Okay, Ducks. Need to go get dressed for this race and wake up the rest of the house. Have a good one - it look gorgeous out there! Waddle on!

Hey Ducks!

I know I haven't been here in well over a month. I closed on my house three weeks ago, and it's been non-stop in settling in. I'm beginning to know my local 'Home Depot' as well as my grocery store.

I had a 50 foot tree taken out of my front yard this past week. It was a cottonwood and hollow with rot. Many of the neighbors have come over to thank me, as they knew it was rotten, but no one has lived in this house for nearly two years. Hurricane season starts on June 1. You do the math.

I FINALLY got out and ran yesterday for the first time since Easter weekend. :rolleyes1 I ran in my new neighborhood and really enjoyed it. There's plenty of shady routes and about a half mile from the house is a gravel path that cuts right down an esplanade for miles, so I'm good to go. I actually spent most of my run yesterday criss-crossing the nighborhood looking at wrought iron fence designs. I've got a pathetic little white picket fence around my front yard that I want to replace soon, so I was checking out all my options. ;)

W&D is roughly 4 months away, Ducks. I'm nowhere near ready, and am hoping I can get there in time. I've traveled to New Orleans on business three times in the last month and have to go again this week. I'm also slated for a week in Holland in early June. I'll take my gear and work hard at getting some runs in. Really! The time left to W&D is starting to scare me. :scared1:

I'll work harder at getting here more often. I've lurked and kept up with the thread, but just haven't posted. Have a GREAT week, Ducks.

Quack on!
