Hello Ducks! Great to run into you at the race, Joe! And I met Dan also (who came in fourth, as Joe said) I thought the race was pretty good, I wish I had not forgotten the pouch I bought at the expo last January. I thought my phone would be ok in my pocket, and it was a major problem, bouncing around. I wound up holding it for a good portion, which was not fun either. At one point in the first part before we entered the park, I thought to myself, what was I doing here, there were only about 20 people in front of me. I got passed by a few, and then got passed during the scavenger hunt, which was harder than I thought. The after party was not bad, my son and I went on Everest about 7 times, the wait time dropped to nothing as it got later. Should have gone on Kali right after the race, but it did get cool in the night. Had a problem with my luggage, we switched resorts, from BLT to AKL, and found out it was not delivered. This was an hour before the busses starte dto run, so I got worried.
And a belated Happy Mother's Day wishes to all the Moms here!

My fresh start has been nice, it's good to have a little structure.
To answer your question I would most certainly run at least one race (10k) before you line up for the WDW Half. It will help you work out any kinks you may have and help you with the atmosphere (running in crowds, taking water).
No, but actually, that did feel like an accomplishment for me as it's been awhile! I ran outside because it was a beautiful OVERCAST day. I LOVE sunshine, but for running, I LOVE CLOUDS!!!
Congrats on becoming a runner and training for the half next year! Sounds like you have a great plan and are moving along well. To answer your question...Although you don't have to do any races before the half, I agree with Tim and suggest you do at least one. I'm glad I did a couple 5K's before my first half (which was in WDW). It made the experience less intimidating. I was more relaxed since I knew the drill; the ins and outs of participating in a race.
I see her running UP hills and her face is red, she's sweating like crazy and breathing hard. But she is DOING IT. And she looks great because she is doing it!!
Sounds like you're doing great!
Glad to have you with us! I agree with Tim and Liz - I think competing in a race before the half would be ideal. I started running in January of last year. My first race was a 5k in October and then just two weeks later I did a 10k. Those were the only races I did before the half at Disney. But, it gave me so much more confidence and made me feel less nervous for the half (although I was still pretty nervous - mostly about getting up so early and getting to the start of the race). I highly recommend getting that first race under your belt before the half. A 10k would be nice because you might surprise yourself and get a better time than you think. Then you could show proof of time at the expo and move up corrals. That's what happened to me.
for getting past that 2 mile wall.
. It sounds like fun with a luau party after the run.
