Hey Ducks!

I'm still here. Just really busy getting settled in Houston and starting the new job. I picked up my new car last night. The house inspections are complete and closing is in less than two weeks now. Still need to go shop for a washer and dryer and various other bits for the move-in. The truck from Canada will unload at my new house on 2 May, so maybe some normalcy will begin to settle in after that.

Looks like the new job will have me traveling to Louisiana a fair bit. I'll be supporting one of our chemical plants between New Orleans and Baton Rouge on some project work. I'm hoping to minimize the travel, but I'm not sure I'll have much say.

I'm running now OUTSIDE 3-4 times a week, thinking about getting ready for the W&D Half. I must admit, I really enjoy the fact that I can run outside year-round now, as opposed to the 6 months inside running in Canada.

Laura - Loved your report on the Capital Half. What a cool course!

Tim - So glad to see you back here. And running too! :thumbsup2

Liz - Hope you're over your March crud and April is going better for you.

In terms of WDW, I was able to snag a breakfast ADR at the castle. MY BFF wants to eat breakfast with Cinderella when we're there in October. Again, for the record, I think Princesses are sissies. But I'll take one for the team. Starting to work on January Marathon Week plans, but not too seriously.

To all - Keep flappin' yer feathers! I'll get back here when time permits. In the meantime, I'll keep lurking. :3dglasses

Hi Ducks,

I am back from my first 5K and loved it! I didn't feel quite as prepared as I wanted to be b/c I finally got "off" the treadmill just in the last week or so and started to get outside. Wow, what a totally different experience after being on the treadmill for 10 years! But I am learning to enjoy running outside. Can't wait to sign up for my next 5K. My next goal is to start passing more participants. Never judge a book by its cover - I couldn't believe who was in front of me when I was on my last mile if you know what I mean. It may sound silly but it was good motivation to keep going. Thank you all for your support - I was thinking of my fellow Ducks when I was out there! :thumbsup2

Getting pumped for our trip to Disney next Monday. Taking one day to visit Harry Potter. Looking forward to some warm sun (yesterday was 43, windy with downpours here in Jersey). I just want a tropical drink to sip by the pool...

I'll try to post again before we leave - Happy Sunday!

Hope everyone is doing well! I haven't done much since my race at the first of the month, however today is "START" day. I have a question for anyone that has ran the Goofy. What kind of training plan did you use? I just want to make sure that I'm as prepared as possible.

Robyn: That's awesome that you're getting outside. I love it, there's a County Road I run down that goes between mountains (or really big hills) that has a creek next to the road and an old cobblestone wall that makes the entire run worth it. Nothing like hearing the creek run and seeing the wildlife.

Good Luck Training Ducks and stay safe out there!

Tim

Hi Renee, buying a new car? Cool, what are you getting? And isn't running outside great?

Congrats on the 5K, Robyn. And have a great trip, it looks like you will miss us by a week.

Hi Tim, I wouldn't know what a good training plan would be for a Goofy, except a lot of miles! Even for my halfs I do not run enough. Maybe that is why my legs hurt so much when I stop.....

Yesterday I ran in the first off-road duathlon of the season. It had rained the night before, so the course was a bit muddy. My time was 4 minutes slower than last year, but I did manage to win my age group. The second run was tough also, plus I tripped on a root and went flat on the ground.

See you in a bit over two weeks, Joe!

Heeelllooooo Ducks!
Sorry to say I've been MIA for awhile. No real reason except that new job + getting home late+ hubby who's taking college classes online + kid who loves Pirates of the Carribean Online pirate:= mom who gets no time on the computer!:sad2:

Anywho, just checking in to see how everyone's doing & beg for some pixie dust to be sent my way. In need of major running inspiration!! I just can't seem to get back on the pavement! After training for the Princess on the TM all winter I'm just done with it. As for outside, I'm good w/ all kinds of weather except wind & we've had 30-40+ gusts literally every day. Ok, I know, excuses. I need to suck it up and get out there or get on the TM. Any words of inspiration??

Next--I really want to sign up for the full in 2012 but I'm feeling like a big fraidy cat. The long runs alone are just torture. Any hints on finding a running partner when you know absolutely no one in the area willing to commit?

Thanks all! So glad to read all the reports and progress! Kudos to everyone!

Hi Ducks!

Hope everyone is doing good, it looks like everyone is doing good with the running.
I had a good 5.25 mile run last night. I was trying to keep my running pace up and was pretty tired by the time I was done. I think my ankle pain is finally behind me, now if the weather would improve I could get some more miles on my shoes. We are having one good day a week, it even snowed on Monday:confused:.
I'm with you Shanonn, I am having a tough time getting motivated to run. On a rainy/windy day I can't get myself in the basement to use the treadmill. Hopefully the weather will turn better in May. I have discovered a bad thing about running along the river in the early evening, the swarm of gnats along the trail. I was getting in my mouth (a little protein boost) in my eyes and when I got back the car to head home I looked at myself in the mirror and I had little bugs stuck to my forehead.
I have signed up for the WDW half in January. It looks like I might be traveling alone, so it looks like lil Pluto is going on another trip.pluto:
I have decided to pass on the Wine and Dine this year:sad2:, I'm a little bummed about it, but I've done a little more traveling this year than I usually do, so I'm taking a break. Who knows maybe I can be talked into it later.:hippie:
Augie I'll see you in 2 weeks :cool1:. I'm looking forward to some warm weather, I'll even take HOT weather, after the winter we've had. When are you getting in for the race? Debbie and I fly in Friday morning and plan on spending the day at Epcot, it's open till midnight and we are going to try stay the whole time. Gotta nap on the plane to be able to pull it off.

To anyone that is going to see Scream 4, look for the vehicles with lettering on them and the Woodsboro Hospital signs, my sign shop made them. I was a little bummed after watching the movie though, I designed and made some real estate signs and they didn't show up in the movie.

Have a good weekend everyone, Quack on Mighty Ducks!:donald:
Joe

Just wanted to drop in to say hope everyone is doing alright with all this crazy weather. Be safe and good luck training.

Tim

Hello Ducks! :cheer2:

So, I haven't run or worked out at all since I did the Shamrock 8k back in the middle of March. :rolleyes1 But, last night I made the decision to move our treadmill into our family room. It's currently in pieces in our garage (we had to take it apart to get it out of our last place). I know that if I keep it in the garage, I will not use it. So, even though I hate the idea of having to look at it in our family room, it will be the best place for it so I can watch TV while I exercise in an air conditioned room. :thumbsup2 We'll work on moving it this weekend. I'm getting over being sick, but hoping to get back to working out next week.

I'm no longer on Facebook, but I will always be around here. :cool2:

I miss this team! I used to be a team member before this spring when my program began! :)

Welcome back Megan :cool1:. Are you working at Disney now? If so are you running in the Expedition Everest Challenge next weekend? Debbie and I are heading down on the 6th for race weekend.

How is everyone doing? It looks like we might have a nice day tomorrow, so I am ready for a long run in the morning. I will start my half marathon training for the Disneyland half next week. I picked the time goal Galloway training schedule on the rundisney site. Some of the Saturday runs call for doing 800's, hopefully the track at my old high school is open on the weekends.
So I have been using the IntervalTimer app for my iPhone on my last couple of runs and it works pretty good. It runs in the background and tells me when to run and when to walk. I always had a tough time tracking the intervals on my watch, so it's nice to be able to listen to music, time the intervals and track my running on one piece of electronics.
Have a good weekend, looking forward to my WDW trip in 6 days:thumbsup2.
Joe

I have a Half this morning in Ocean City, MD. I am even less prepared than my last one, but I decided I will just do it - the Galloway. 4:1 intervals. Since DC, I haven't gotten much in and only one "long" one of 9 miles. Family members with some extreme health issues and all that goes with that . . . you know the drill. And, my knee has been really hurting lately. Hoping it's just the change in weather and not arthritis. Hoping I'm still alive at the end and don't embarrass myself to terribly. So much for the PR on the flat course! Enjoy the beautiful weekend, everyone!

Did much better than I thought. Used the 4:1 Galloway method and felt good up until mile 10 or 11. Started to get noticeably slower at that point. Don't know an official time yet, but the Garmin said 2:20:30. Ahhhhh! If I pushed it a little more I could have broken that darn 2:20 I have been hoping for. But the reality is, I didn't deserve it. I am very lucky to get what I got. And it was a PR by about 3 minutes. I don't recommend not training for a half marathon, but it worked for me today....it also helped that most of the course was flatter than flat! Waddle on, ducks!

That's a great time for a half doing the Galloway method! Maybe that would help me some. I have not run much in the last month other than a few races. But the cycling and swimming has helped.

Joe, see you in a few days for the EEC!

Good luck with the treadmill, Carissa!

Have a good week!

Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie here, but wanted to chime in as a fellow Donald lover, and runDisney girl! I've completed: 2008 WDW Half, 2010 Princess Half, 2010 Disneyland Half, and the 2011 WDW full. Now, I just had knee surgery (yesterday) for a torn meniscus, but the doctor says I should be good for walking/jogging the Wine and Dine. :)

I also posted a few days ago in the hopes of finding a relay partner for the new Chip and Dale race.

I'm excited to be a new member here with some fellow runDisney enthusiasts!

Thanks!

Tanya: :cheer2:WELCOME:cheer2: to the team. You will find that there are a lot of wonderful people on the Ducks team. Good Luck with your training.

Happy Wednesday Ducks!

Tanya~Welcome!! :) It's nice to meet you! Congrats on the full! I'm sorry about the knee issue and I hope your surgery recovery goes well. We're here to support you on your way to W&D! :) I'll add you to the lists.

Megan~Great to hear from you! How are things with your WDWCP? Are you running these days?

Joe~That sounds like quite the project (VHS tapes). Someday I have to go through all our home movies and transfer them. We have 70-something tapes from before we went digital..ugh!
I know what you mean about the castle trees. But I actually miss them. I loved how pretty they were and how they crated shade around the hub.
I googled Frank Shorter, cool. :)
Also cool about the Scream 4 signs! I won't be seeing that movie though, I don't like scary movies!

Renee~YAY, HOW EXCITING, a perfectly girly princess:, pinkyprincess: and prettyprincess: breakfast with the princess:princess:princess: Princesses!!!princess:princess:princess: I KNOW you are on cloud nine about it!!! LOL ;)

Robyn~Congrats again on your first 5K!! :cool1: Can't wait to hear about your spring WDW trip.

Tim~Hope youre fresh start is going well! :goodvibes

Augie~Congrats on the age group win! :cool1: Sorry about the fall though.

Shannon~Good luck on getting out there. I know it's hard sometimes!!

Carissa~I hope you're feeling better and have gotten the tm up and "running"! haha

Laura~Congrats again on your half! You did awesome!! :)

As for me...I really don't have anything exciting to report in the way of running. I've just been doing dinky 2 mile runs lately. My next race will be Wine & Dine. Until the training for that begins my motivation will be pretty low, really. I'll be on the tm for the most part from now on due to warm temps here. Usually by the time I can run each day the sun is out and beating down. And that beating down sun is worse than warm temps to me, I really dislike it!

Welcome to the Ducks, Tanya! :cheer2: Liz and I are doing the relay. Hope you're able to find a partner. :goodvibes

Liz - Regular two mile runs sounds good to me!

We didn't get to move the treadmill this weekend as I just felt lousy. But, I'm hoping today we can move it. Not sure how we're going to manage without a handtruck. Guess we could take it apart if need be since we finally found the instruction manual. :rolleyes1

I plan on starting over with C25K just for fun. I'm thinking I'll start off at a faster speed this time in the hopes that it will help me be faster.

Hope everyone has a fabulous week! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! I am sitting at the airport waiting to go home from a Disney weekend. Debbie and I ran the exhibition Everest challenge last night. Team huffin puffin didn't do bad, we managed to finish the 5k as a team in 36 minutes, not bad considering we had 3 obsticals during the run and Debbie went down trying to navigate the tires. I learned I suck at the scavenger hunt questions. I would never have figured out clue 2 without a lot of help from a castmember. Big shout out to Augie for finishing in the top 20 in the single mens division (that dude is fast!). And woohoo to last years duck member Dan Moss, he finished 4th.
The run was pretty good, but 2/3rds of the run was behind the scenes, but I guess they had to save the Animal kingdom property for the scavenger hunt.
The after party was ok, a little crowded at first. We got drenched on Kali river rapids, I just figured it washed away the running funk. There's something cool about riding EE in the dark, but it was a little chilly.
We had lunch yesterday at Liberty tree tavern (first time) I think that is my
favorite MK restaurant now. I will be eating there again. I will posting more pictures on FB and organizing the ones I already posted once I get home.
Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Joe
