I just hid a column (Format, column, hide), but can't figure out how to highlight the hidden column to unhide it.

Can anyone help?

TIA!

Try
selecting all 1st then unhide

Select the columns to the left and to the right of the hidden one, then format, column, unhide

If it's the first column that you hid (column A), you need to click on the corner box where the row and column headers meet (to select all cells) then format, column, unhide.

you can also highlight just the two columns (or rows) around it and select "unhide".

Or you can slide it out again by placing your cursor at the point where two columns (or rows) meets. You can spot these point by sequence of the letters or numbers. If a column is hidden the sequence will skip letter, rows will skip numbers. The cursor will change to a double ended pointer. You then left click and drag to the desired width or height.
