Does anyone else just not get Duffy....

... Another thing, the greatest genius of all time (next to Walt himself) is the guy who came up with the idea to make pins of everything you could ever imagine and charge $5-$10 each. That guy should be CEO.

Amen to that! Not to mention the guy that came up with the idea of giving a free lanyard and pin to resort guests to get you hooked! Ask me how I know that this works to sell pins?

If I put on all the pins we have from WDW I'd look like a knight in armor and would weigh as much!

At one time Build a Bear was at the Marketplace, right? The powers that be probably saw how popular it was so they created Duffy. I previously posted that I don't mind him and I just bought one on sale at DS.com for my kids. Mine love BAB and are looking forward to Build a Dino at TRex. I was also able to get quite a few Duffy outfits on sale too.

I personally don't like Duffy. They shove him in your face everywhere at Epcot. What about Figment?

I think that Disney's seen the success of things like Hello Kitty and Pokemon (Both from Japan) and thinks that since Duffy was so big there that he'll be just as big here.

I say that Duffy is overmarketed. They stick him in your face everywhere in order to get you to buy him! Can't they tone it down just a bit?

They do get a Duffy bear on a stick to color. No little hanging charms.

Nooooooooooo! My kids don't even know WHO Duffy is Heck, *I* don't even know who he is. I have only heard of him after seeing Custom outfits made with him on it.

DD and I love Duffy...we actually fight over who he belongs too and he travels with us (btw he makes a great pillow when the hotel ones are lacking). I think his story is sweet and he's become very sentimental to my family. I just ordered Shellie May this week. So now we'll have another bear to fight over

I just wish the US clothing had the same attention to quality that they sell in Japan. There are several US sets I won't buy.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I guess Duffy came about because he was a bear that was stuffed into Mickey's duffel bag when he went on a trip so he wouldn't be so lonely without Minnie? I think that's kind of the right story...anywho, my Cast Member friends said that Duffy is HUGE in China and Japan. I guess the guests just storm the lines to get to Duffy like they would to see the Princesses here in the states. Duffy is so popular in Asia that you can barely ever find Duffy merchandise at the parks. I guess when tourists come to the states they get really excited because Duffy stuff is a lot easier to purchase here because he's not really popular.

I, too, was rather confused by Duffy before I heard this back story. I seriously had to ask my CM friend the last trip down to WDW who Duffy was!

We actually have a bunch of the "original " mickey bears in many colors. DD thought they were cute. I liked the original story. This new story is just for $ IMHO. I think Disney saw how popular they are on ebay and decided to cash in. I guess I can't blame them. One of the bears we have has sold many times on ebay for $1200. Are these people crazy? The bear cost me $20. DD does not want to part with it so here he remains with his numerous brothers and sisters.

It's weird.... not many people know who Duffy is and yet they shove him in your face at Epcot and sell his merch everywhere.

Kingdom hearts, on the other hand, has a bit of a fanbase here in the US and would do a little better than Duffy (He isn't doing goodl. Their loaded wirh him at the Outlet stores).

Why not tone down the Duffy and put in some KHs? Just a little...... please Disney!!!

I'm a little confused by Duffy as well. To me, it just seems like a build-a-bear sort of thing that isn't needed in Disney b/c of all the great characters that are already out there!

My DW and I came to this same conclusion after last weekend's visit to Epcot.

yes I'm not gonna lie I did buy the bear(kind of on impulse), but all it really is is an overpriced build-a-bear. Duffy also replaced the masks which I loved,I wish that they would have the masks and the duffys (a compromise)
