Do you tip the mousekeepers?

Now I'm confused. I always thought you were supposed to tip Mousekeeping. But if they are not allowed to keep it, and have to turn it over to some un-named charity, what is the point? I prefer to pick my own charities to give to, thank you very much.

I doubt seriously that the mousekeepers have to turn over their tips to a charity. It just doesn't make sense to me. I can understand a no tipping policy for the parks and CM's in general, but not mousekeepers. I think when Walt made the statement about not tipping that was at a time he didn't have any hotels. As far as the "rule book" that some are talking about, again, I don't think it really applies. Not metioning mousekeepers as a tip position is not the same thing as saying they are not allowed to keep tips. When we go this November I will be asking several mousekeepers as well as Front Desk, head of housekeeping and the General Manager. Hopefully with all of those answers I will have the truth. When I come back I will post it. If anyone goes before me and wants to ask these people and report back here I would greatly appreciate it.

Again, I don't think that this is a right/wrong issue. Everyone will need to make their own personal decision as to what is right for them. For me, I tip.

 I have never heard of mousekeeping donating there tips to charity. That would be nice, but I do believe it's to suppliment there income. We use those cute little envelopes from mousesavers.com. I write nice little notes and put usually 5.00 in the envelope each day (if everything is done):thumbsup2

:tinker: MARCH 13, 2007 - DISNEY HERE WE COME! WOO HOO:tinker:

we tip sometimes...we will if we had a special request or something above and beyond happened the previous day. I took my four year old to LA, and we stayed in a fancy hotel (got an awesome priceline deal), and one day, I put a tip on the pillow...from that day on, HE had to put money on the pillow. he thought it was cool...leave money, come back to a clean room. I came back one afternoon, room hadn't been touched. I picked the money back up.

Not sure if we'll tip at WDW or not...probably a couple of times...but most likely not everyday. We also probably will not have our rooms cleaned everyday.

We tip $1 each person a day (that would be $3 for us and we were really neat people) in the moderates but when we move up to concierge we did $5 a day. One day we were in a rush to get out the door at the AKL Con. and forgot to leave the tip envelope and sadly wondered if that had anything to do with not getting towel animals at least one of the days. I know they aren't the norm but I would have hoped for at least one in our conc. stay of 4 nights. :( We actually got them each day of our 6 day stay at PO-FQ. that was COOL. till then we had only gotten them once in all our stays and tahtwas our fainl stay in eth Poly con. several years back. itw aas juts eth coolest surprise. but that's neietrh here nor there. Yep, we tip but to be honest, until the DIS boards had influence on our vacation to WDW we didn't. It never even occured to us to do it. :rolleyes1 We don't ever travel other than to WDW every 3 or so years so we were both babes-in-the-woods when we started on the whole what and who to tip scene.

I Tip daily $ 5.00

If you tip just once (at the end of your trip) What if its a different mousekeeper that day ? I want to make sure that the mousekeeper cleaning my mess gets the tip. :confused3 :confused3

We tipped at the end of our stay two years ago. I never even once thought it might be someone different. This year, I am planning on tipping daily. I printed out some really cute mousekeeping envelopes that are all tucked away for when we go.

I know I have seen someplace to print out Mousekeeping envelopes, but can't remember where...anyone know?

Thanks!:flower3:

We always leave between $3-5 and will leave it on the dresser with a "Thank You" written on a piece of paper.

My question is this...we are going to the POP in December and our family has 2 rooms. My DFIL NEVER tips anybody but I would like to leave a tip for his room's mousekeeper. If we have connecting rooms, we should have the same mousekeeper, correct?

Probably but no promises. Also, while Pop will try to put you all as close as possible there is not promise you will have connecting rooms. More than likely you will, but put stock in it.

OK...after my last post back in Feb. I decided I wanted to find out for sure what the Disney policy was regarding tipping Mousekeeping. I e-mailed them, then recieved an e-mail asking for my phone number to call me. So, I sent it to them. Finally today they called me back. The CM that called was very nice and said the official policy is that mousekeepers are like any other CM and that they are not to accept tips. Although, if a tip is left it will be collected and put into a pool for all cast members (not sure if she meant all of them or just the mouskeepers). The money is then used for perks for the CM's. She also told me that she did not know the policy at the Swan and Dolphin, that I would have to contact them directly for that info. I also asked about turn down service...the same rule applies for those CM's as well.

I would have not thought this...I guess I am not the know it all I thought I was! lol. I just wanted to share my new found info. I am going to reconsider how I tip now I believe!

Even after this news I still will tip mousekeeping. There is nothing more wonderful than coming back to the resort after a great day an opening the door to a clean room!!!
If tipping was not "allowed" I think it would be stated in the room.....Great service equals good tips! This update makes me want to tip more the "nontippers" will never say thankyou with $$$$ and I don't think that is fair.

I wonder if this policy includes waitstaff at restaurants too. Seems a very strange policy to me.

Of course not!!! This really concerns me that some of the CMs are going to loose out on their tips. We all know WDW is not great payers and waitstaff depend on their tips.

And the mousekeepers are rolling in it? I'm not suggesting we don't tip waitstaff, I'm questioning the policy, because it makes no sense. I want my mousekeepers to get their tips too!
