Do you tip the mousekeepers?

I tipped on my visit last Sept at CSR, on a daily basis. Two of the days - the tip was not picked up. Two of the days, the tip was picked up. Then my DD1 1/2 had crumbs in the bed from a Nutragrain bar and housekeeping did not change the sheets - crumbs all in the bed. They also did not change out our dirty glasses. I had already left a tip and it was picked up that day. I quit tipping.
After that trip, I asked about the tipping and was told it is not a tipped position. So I've decided not to tip anymore.

It's hard to believe that a Mousekeeper
would have to turn over her
tips, How can they force someone to do that:sad2:
and even if they did, if you leave individual $1.00 bills they
could keep half and turn in the other half and
claim that this was all they got for tips.:sad1:

I am not asking anyone to belive me on just my post...please feel free to contact Disney directly as I did. Another poster in this thread is the one who brought it to my attention, and I decided to take it upon myself to find out. She was right...I was WRONG...:scared1:. (Don't tell my DH I admitted that though!)

But how can they know for sure how much
of a tip the MouseKeeper received?
That's why I will leave all one dollar bills,
just in case.:rolleyes1

At a place where we drop at least $5,000 I think it's funny that people refuse to tip a few bucks a day.
Wow. Weve never spent more than $900 for a family of 4 staying on Disney property for 8 days! Of course we drive, so we dont have airfare or tremendous gas bills. And we either bring in our own food or do the free DDP when its available, so no real money on food... Come to think of it... I guess I am a cheapscate!:rotfl2: :lmao:
I understand your point... just making a little humor.

Still, $11.00 an hour... thats not bad money for the job. Sure, some people leave huge messes, but I would assume that most dont, and that IS their job afterall. I dont expect my customers to tip me. (Though some still do occasionally). But it DOES feel good when they do, so maybe I will next time.

Not all of them are making the $11 + that's been posted here.. that's the highest wage. Does anyone know the starting wage?

They don't know for sure I guess...but then again I know of some places that place marked bills or write down serial numbers and try to catch those not doing their job properly or steeling from the company. I don't know if Disney would be one to do that, but I would hate to try and find out if I was that mousekeeper.

We are a family of 4, and I easily spend $5000 on a trip to Disney. Perfect example would be the trip we are getting ready to take...for our 7 nights @ Pop (a value resort) 8 day park hopper pass, plus add the DDP, with a AAA discount it was within $5 of $3000. By the time we drive down spend a night on the way down and on the way home, additional meals and gas while travel, not to mention all of the extra's...I will easily spend another $2000 (hopefully not much more than that). So I am sure when the PP mentioned dropping $5000 for a vacation they considered most of the additional cost while there as well.

That being said, and knowing now what I know I am reconsidering how I tip mouskeeping. We were always the ones that made the envelopes at home with the kids, and left a new one on the sink every day! But if they are now allowed to keep it, I feel as cheated as they do. It is my money and I don't have a problem giving it to them for a extra lil service...so why do they have a problem for them to have it? Oh, well...

I had asked a manager at the Poly and was told that the mousekeepers can accept tips. They are not pooled. We tip $5 a day for mousekeeping and the same at any other hotel outside of WDW.

I don't want a debate...I was just sharing what I was told by the customer service CM that called me with an answer to my question. If you were told something else than do what you feel is right. I will go with what I was told and let it go at that!

I believe you, and I also believe the poster who called Disney directly and was told the exact opposite. Just another of the many cases where Disney's left hand has no clue what the right hand is doing. My take is Disney establishes policies, then each resort does what it wants. So, at this point I'm led to believe that mousekeepers at some resorts are allowed to keep tips, while those at others are not.

. . . at this point I'm led to believe that mousekeepers at some resorts are allowed to keep tips, while those at others are not . .

1) I don't know why people do not believe the rules.
2) Or wish to make excuses to avoid them.
3) The rules apply to all resorts on property.
4) Most of the time, managers will "look the other way" for housekeeper tips.
5) Housekeeping is tough work, but most do get paid well.
6) They can get bonuses on top of a $11.82 max wage.
7) But, managers frequently step in and discipline for accepting a tip.
8) This can include termination for the first offense.
9) However, non-cash gifts up to $75 value are perfectly fine.

FYI:
Per the Union Contract between WDW and The Service Trades Council Union (most of the individual WDW unions bargain at the same time, and simply have a few clauses different in the master contract), "Housekeeping H/H3" is a Non-Tipped position.

1. I asked a manager about the rules.
2. He stated that tipping mousekeeping was FINE.
3. He said they are allowed to keep for themselves any tips they get.
4. Guests don't have access to the contract so go by what they've been told.
5. If you don't want to tip, don't tip.
6. Don't try to make others feel bad for tipping because you are against it.
7. Posting in numerical sentences is annoying to type and moreso to read.

I just spoke with the head of housekeeping at the Poly. I was told each mousekeeper can keep what they get as long as they are working their normal area. If they are filling in for someone's day off, they'll share what's given if it's more than 1 day's tip found in a room (ex. $30 for 10 days left on the last day).

OK, once again...I did not ask for a debate nor did I entend anyone to have to debate for me (but thanks to those who did). I am simply stating to you what I was told by the CM. Take it with a grain of salt and do what you wish with the info you have. I hate to think this is what is happening, but hearing it for myself from Disney I am more willing to believe it now. If you were told something different...great.

Please don't think no one believes you! I believe you were told just what you said. Ten different people can ask a CM a question and will get 10 different answers! I just know that I tip as a thank you for doing such difficult job. I don't care if they are making $25 a hour. I still want to thank them from ME. I don't think anyone here is saying you are wrong. We are all just contributing to what we have been told too. Tip or not. All a personal decision!

I'm new to this - do you tip the mousekeepers? How do you do it (where do you leave the money?) How much? Do you tip every day or at the end of the week? Do you have your room cleaned every day or every other day?

I'm trying to budget so I need to know if I should include mousekeeping money!

Thanks!
Yes we tip everyday a dollar a day per person. Enjoy

I have to laugh at this thread for many reasons...the first being where someone posted $11 dollars is "good money", are you kidding me? Also if you so immaculate when you are on vacation keep the do not disturb on your door so mousekeeping can move down the hall and clean rooms of people that want to tip because it is the right thing to do and just have good manners!
