Do NOT step on any animals, please! A May 2012 TR. NEW! 6/25

My feet hurt just thinking about how badly your feet must have been aching. I guess I can act like a toddler, too! :lmao:

Score for that TSM strategy. Often times DH and I get lucky and get to go through the FP line once we grab our 3D glasses :3dglasses as were just a party of two.

My sister and I had the BEST server ever at 50's PTC. He had us laughing the entire time. He even took a picture with us before we left (at his suggestion):

I love your TR so far. You write it so entertainingly (is that even a word???)!

All caught up!! Thanks for posting links to the next chapter at the end of each update!

I love that you started the trip with Bloody Mary's!!

Also love that you rode TSM 3 times! Its an awesome ride but the wait is outrageous! DHS needs more rides for kids so its not so crazy!!

Sorry... can't remember much else that I read as I've been up all night!!

Day two: Monday, 5/7

Having thoroughly tuckered ourselves out the night before, I think both of us slept quite well. Mark always, always, always wakes up early and even though he tried to be quiet, I heard him moving around getting ready. So I figured I may as well get up, too. After all- we were in Disney! It was only a little after 7, and we were quickly headed out the door. Because my heels were so torn up, the only shoes I could picture wearing were my flip flops (which are from LL Bean and are quite comfortable, BTW)

There was a bus at the Turtle Pond Road stop, and we hopped on. I don’t remember where the bus was going, but it didn’t matter because we were just looking for a ride to the Hospitality House so we could complete an errand.
After Bob at Boma told us we couldn’t pay for our meal with a card that had a different name than what was on the TIW card (WRONG! By the way), we figured the easiest solution was to put my CC on file so the charges would be going to me. That way, we could split checks between his CC and his key (charged to my CC), both having his name on it but still allowing us to pay our own halves. Did that make sense? It doesn’t matter if it didn’t- this was all totally unnecessary because as I said, Bob was WRONG! (incidentally: We really weren’t all that upset at Bob, we just had fun talking about him being wrong every time every single other server told us it wasn’t a problem to split the check between multiple CC, no matter who’s name was on them.)

Good to know this is not right - thanks for the tip!

Adding my CC took about 1/1000th of the time it took us to check in the day before, and we were out at the bus stop just after 8:00. Our destination was Hollywood Studios, and the appropriate bus came along shortly. I had insisted to Mark that the only way I would consider riding Toy Story Mania would be if we waited zero minutes for it. Since he is a little obsessive when it comes to video games/games in general, this was a priority for him. So rope drop was a must. I had heard that DHS opens a little earlier than the posted 9am, so we figured getting there for 8:30 would be ideal. We got there at 8:20. Nice!

We got in line behind just a handful of others at the turnstile and just enjoyed people watching/being at Disney. The mornings were the only time that the Florida sunshine didn’t scorch us within an inch of our lives on this trip, so waiting was actually kind of pleasant. Sure enough, we were let through at about 8:40. Like everyone else, we headed right to Toy Story. Mark was completely impressed that I don’t need park maps. As I told him, that is because I rock. We were so quick (not running, just efficient!) that we walked right up to a FP machine and got 9:40-10:40 return times. Without missing a beat, we walked into the stand-by queue and just kept on going until our butts were in a ride vehicle. We literally waited zero minutes- just what I asked for! Mark way outscored me, but I still had a lot of fun. My opinion of the ride went up quite a few notches for not having to wait!

Definitely the best way to ride!! I also won't ride it with any sort of wait (usually the FP line is exceeding my allowable wait time for this ride LOL. Glad you had a great time though!

Since we had skipped breakfast in our rush to get to the park, I suggested we hit up Starring Rolls next. I didn’t want to deal with toasting a bagel, so I just got a super healthy cheese Danish (on a trip with my family at 12 years old, this became my first official ‘food that means Disney World’). Mark did opt for to go the bagel route and I went outside while I waited for him to toast it.
While we ate, a lady at a table nearby screamed and started stomping her foot. I couldn’t see why- but Mark filled me in that she was trying to step on a squirrel who was brazenly begging at her feet. I don’t think she thought this plan through very well though, and I wondered out loud to Mark what she planned to do once she had squirrel guts all over her foot. :crazy2: I find the begging wildlife just as annoying as the next guest (even though I am a total animal lover), but stepping on it just doesn’t seem like a viable solution.

That's really weird. I'd be super upset if I saw her actually step on it. What was this woman thinking?? I also don't mind the begging though, minus birds who decide to poop on you while begging overhead...

Luckily, we were done and left without anyone getting stepped on, so we headed to ride ToT, and then hopped in the RnRC single rider line. Am I the only one who always ends up paired with someone who has never heard of the single rider line and can’t figure out where I came from and why I want to ride with them? Happens to me all. The. Time.

LOL yes! Seriously. I wish ppl paid attention more, bc this has happened quite a bit, esp on RnRC.

We had just enough time to get to TSM for our FP, grabbing a couple more for the afternoon (1:40… this is when I was still taking notes!) This time we had to wait a little bit, but it was ok because we overheard a guy talking about tips/easter eggs in the game and Mark and I ended up doing really well! We still had a bit of time before our lunch ADR, so we saw Muppets before making our way over to 50’s Prime Time just as it opened at 11am. We were early, but hungry!

We waited just a minute before we were sat. Our server ended up being a dud (and we were really hoping for some good interaction), but a nearby waiter was hysterical. When a lady at his table asked him again what I had ordered (she thought it looked good), he hollered over to ask me if I was done. I was, so he took my plate and offered her a bite. Haha. That helped make up for our lame server. Incidentally, I got the pot roast and Mark had the sampling of Mom’s favorites. It was all nice and tasty.

Glad the other server made the experience a bit more enjoyable. Having an awesome server is the whole point IMO of going to 50s! That stinks!

Although I have no food porn from this trip, I have plenty of pictures of Mark and I entertaining ourselves while waiting for food:

After lunch, I was eager to check out Star Tours since I had not been on the new version yet. I thought it was great, and definitely wanted to ride it again to get another sequence. I took a picture of the Jedi training as we walked by, since by boss’ daughter (who is 4) is obsessed with Star Wars and they are starting to think about a possible WDW trip.

She’d love this! I also bought her a stuffed Ewok as we left Star Tours. Apparently, she insists that he sits on her bedside table and watches her sleep. :rotfl:

I just wanted to mention I thought it was really cute of you to pick up an Ewok for your bosses daughter. That is so cute how she "sleeps" with it. :goodvibes

I made Mark pop into the Writer’s Stop- a place he didn’t know existed- so that I could get a carrot cake cookie. I was horrified to see:

My favorite counter to sit at and enjoy a snack was gone! Why would they do this?
I shook off my sadness at changes I didn’t agree to, and we headed back to ToT where we walked on yet again. This is probably about when Mark and I started up with telling each other that ‘The time is now’ whenever one or the other asked the time. If you are wondering why… the clue is in the ToT pre-show: “The time is now, on an evening very much like the one we have just witnessed…”
Anywho… we were quickly at the front of the line and a CM asked the group ahead of us how many were in their party. It was a group of 7, so she placed four of them on one row of numbers, and 3 on another- the end result would be that the entire group would have the front row. As we waited to board, instead of standing on these numbers, they kept moving to be near each other. The CM corrected them, explaining that once we were on the elevator the party would be all together. All seemed well, they stayed put in the right spots. But once it was time to load, the whole group piled in and sat wherever they wanted. Mark and I lost our assigned seats, but good naturedly laughed when the CM subtly shook her head in frustration. She caught our sympathetic looks and mouthed ‘everyday’ while shaking her head. We were laughing as the doors closed and we began our adventure.

So annoying!! Ppl always get screwed up getting on this ride, for that very reason! Glad you were still able to get on though.

Another turn through the single rider line of RnRC, and it was time to use our last FPs for TSM. Mark still beat me, but my score was much more respectable!

We agreed that we were done with the park for now, and headed out to catch a Friendship boat. Which was conveniently waiting for us at the dock- even though I am such a pessimist that I insisted a) there was no way we would catch it and b) I could not possible run for it because of both the heat from the friggin’ Florida sunshine and my woefully aching feet (the problem was now the balls of my feet being sore from the flip flops. Awesome.) You may be able to tell that I was pretty much being a toddler right then and needed a serious time-out. Also: we made the boat.

I think we all get to be toddlers after running around a park! Sorry your feet hurt so much! Glad you made the boat too. DH and I usually just do the walk, though IDK why bc my feet always hurt too.

Looking forward to the next update!

Fantastic day at DHS!! Way to go with the rope drop - I'm determined to make at least one this trip. DH is like your friend - always up early, but I am definitely NOT a morning person. But it is much easier to get up and going at Disney than at home! ;)

Thanks for the photos of 50's PTC. We SO love that place!!! It's a must-do for us, and I can't wait to go back in October! Sorry to hear you got a dud server, but that's cool that the other one messed around some. I love the interaction, but even without it, we would love that place for the atmosphere and yummy food (S'mores!!!). :goodvibes

I am soooo not a morning person! But I don't mind getting up for Disney!

What????? NO!!! I can't believe that adorable little counter seat in the Writer's Stop is gone!!! That was the most pleasant place to enjoy a carrot cake cookie!!!

Glad your TSM plan worked out!! I think the soft opening of DHS is a great idea. It really seems to help with the huge running crowd!

I thought of you when I took that picture- I almost felt bad breaking the bad news! I have no clue why they'd do something like that...

My feet hurt just thinking about how badly your feet must have been aching. I guess I can act like a toddler, too! :lmao:

I love your TR so far. You write it so entertainingly (is that even a word???)!

My poor feet! This was by FAR the toughest trip for foot pain that I have ever had.

Love that picture of you and your sister! Looks like you had a blast!!

Ain't vacation till you have a bloody Mary! :rolleyes1

That's a good point- TSM is a ride everyone can ride, but it's not geared toward kids like some of the Fantasyland rides. So everyone in the gosh darned park is in line at the same time!

Looking forward to the next update!

I was so hot :furious:... the thought of walking would have sent me into a full blown meltdown!

TSMM 3 times?? My older kids would be so jealous!

I was pretty impressed with it, myself!! :goodvibes

All caught up & totally enjoying this TR! I can't believe anyone thought stepping on a squirrel would be a good idea?! :confused3 :rotfl: Y'all have had some jam packed days so far! I will be interested to see if that pace continues through the end of the trip or if the heat wins! It's exhausting me just to read it, even though DH and I used to tour that way ourselves. After two trips to Disney parks with DS and taking it a lot slower, I don't know how we ever did it as fast paced as we used to! :rotfl2:

I can't believe that lady and the squirrel! :scared: People never cease to amaze me :sad2:

TSM 3 times though! That's awesome! :thumbsup2 I will have to keep that strategy in mind when we go in the fall...get to the park nice and early, grab FP's, then ride it, go for breakfast, ride it with the FP's, then get more...I only got to do it once last time, and we had a very long wait

I've never heard of the Writer's Stop...where is it and how awesome is it?

We called that toddler-like walk "the Disney Shuffle". I find myself doing it about 2-3 days in

I would have loved to ask her what she planned on doing after stepping on the squirrel... not a bright idea.

The pace of this trip was nuts. And not how I normally do Disney. But I did my best to keep up!

Writer's Stop is a book store/coffee shop attached to Sci Fi Frive In. They have yummy baked goods. It's a nice little stop for a break, but now that my favorite window seat is gone it is less awesome.

Sorry for the delay- have been busy with friends and fun and awesome weather! Please don't give up on me!

Here's the rest of Day 2:

I think anyone who was at WDW that week in May could tell you that it was hot. Really, really hot. The thing I remember most about the Friendship ride we took was sweating. We sat inside, and the sun beating down on the boat had made it very warm in there. I spent the long journey to Epcot wondering if my butt had sweat through my dress. I was pretty sure it had (spoiler: it hadn’t, though my back did). I really don’t do heat well, mostly because I am such a sweaty beast- not comfortable or attractive, but it’s the way it is.

After what felt like forevvvvvver, we were entering Epcot through the International Gateway. My goal here was to show Mark the awesomeness of a Kim Possible mission. I knew he’d love it, and I also knew he’d become addicted. Mark gets very, very into any kind of game and cannot leave anything undone. I was a little leery about him wanting to do every single mission right then, but I was willing to risk it.
So we stopped at the kiosk and picked up a Kimmunicator. Mark was extremely self conscious at this point, and didn’t believe me when I told him other adults play. So he kind of hid off in a corner to start the UK mission, and I went into the Rose&Crown to get a Bass Ale. (Have you ever noticed that this is one of the coldest spots in the World Showcase? The other one is the bathroom in Germany.)

IMG_7371.jpg

I came out of the bar with my drink, and sorta watched him do the mission, taking pictures along the way.

IMG_7368.jpg

IMG_7370.jpg

At one point, we had to go into a store and tell a secret phrase to a CM. Mark was still pretty embarrassed but so compelled to keep playing that he did it anyway. The CM handed us this:

IMG_7372.jpg

(it's a tea bag)

And we continued saving the world. Incidentally, these are my favorite parts of the missions- when you must find a certain CM and tell them something to get a clue. I like the scavenger hunt-ishness of it and how interactive the whole thing is.
Mark did a great job and we were soon done in the UK

IMG_7374.jpg

We continued on to France, where Mark did yet another mission. I mostly kept standing in doorways of shops to try and stay cool.
I was very happy when the clues brought us inside.

IMG_7378.jpg

IMG_7379.jpg

Before I completely melted, we were done in France and had to think about what was next. We just so happened to be standing near the Grey Goose Slushie cart, so I suggested we try a couple of those. They helped keep us a little cooler (even though Mark drank his in about 4 seconds), and I requested that we do the Mexico mission next because it is indoors. Of course, I forgot about the part where we’d have to walk the whole way there. Oops.

As we made our way, passing through the America pavilion, a mother duck crossed the path with several adorable ducklings. Most people stopped and said things like “awwww!” and “look! Cute!”. One little boy wanted to be different, and he was stomping around after them. His parents just kinda watched, but when he got thisclose to actually stepping on one, I instinctively called out “do NOT step on them!” several other people also shouted things like “hey!” and “stop!” So then his parents finally told their precious Nicolas to leave the ducks alone. I was not a happy camper- to see two almost animal squashing in one day was a bit much for me.

Despite this excitement, we did eventually make it to Mexico. It felt pretty awesome to be inside and out of the heat! Before I could even think about doing anything else, I steered us to La Cava de Tequila.

This pretty much sums up how we felt when we got there:
IMG_7381.jpg

But a couple of these:
IMG_7385.jpg

that’s the cucumber margarita and the Don Julio Pomegranate (I think…)

Had us back to normal:
IMG_7384.jpg

We also ordered the Queso Blanco to split. Our waitress brought us some chips and salsa because she said a new batch of the cheese was coming up, and it would be a little bit of a wait. It ended up taking a very long time to get the cheese (enough time to have a couple more margaritas, probably…) but when we did it was amazing!!! So, so good- a little spicy, a lot cheesy. And because of the wait, she didn’t charge us for them. Awww, thanks! I have always had great service here and pretty much just think Cava de Tequila rocks!

Next up was China, where Mark completed yet another KP mission.

IMG_7392.jpg

I though this topiary was awesome- it was dripping water out of its mouth!
IMG_7391.jpg

Before we left China, we stopped for another drink (why not? It was super hot out and we weren’t driving anywhere!) Mark got a gingerita and I got a drink special: Tipsy Ducks in Love. It was tea and coffee blended with whiskey and chocolate. It was pretty good- but strong!

We had to make our way back to the UK because dinner would be at the Rose & Crown. We had a bit of time, so we took the photo booth pictures, as you do:

IMG_7395.jpg

IMG_7397.jpg

 I looooove that creepy picture!

A phone began ringing while we were there, but there was a toddler in the booth (her family was taking a picture) so I couldn’t answer it. One of the older kids in that group did answer it, and he spoke briefly before hanging up. But then the other phone rang, and I picked it up- it was Ben! He knew when our ADR was, so I had an idea he’d be trying to call. We chatted for just a little bit, then Mark and I checked in for dinner and were seated pretty quickly.

We amused ourselves as we waited for our food:
Look innocent:
IMG_7398.jpg

Look thoughtful:
IMG_7401.jpg

Look confused:
IMG_7406.jpg

Pretend Ben's here:
IMG_7402.jpg

IMG_7407.jpg

Haha, yes we had been drinking, but no, that is not what makes us act this way- this is normal for us!
After dinner (which was just ok- I ordered the appetizer trio for my meal and it was underwhelming.) we made our way toward the front of the park, stopping for a random picture on a bench:

IMG_7409.jpg

And hopping on Spaceship Earth for a spin. We had the most amazing video… it cracked me up (and still does, especially since you can hear me cackling all through the video…)

We were back in our room at about 8, and decided to go swimming. Except that by the time I got changed, Mark was sleeping. I left without him and headed to the main pool. It had started to rain, so I popped into the Gurgling Suitcase instead of the pool and got a Turtle Crawl.
IMG_20120507_210031-1.jpg

I called Ben and we talked for a bit, and then Mark was there! He had woken up and came over to swim… so we did! It had actually got pretty cool (the only time during this trip), but the pool was really warm. We found the hot tub, and I tried to help my poor feet by soaking them in the hot water. It helped a bit, and felt great. We caught a bus back to our room and it was bedtime by 10.

This had been a great day- and the pace was a lot slower in many spots (though trucking it across the World Showcase to get to Mexico was not a lot of fun). I was pleased to introduce Mark to the joys of adult beverages in Epcot, as well as the fun of a good Kim Possible mission.

Day 3: 'Magic wrapped up in PIXIE dust!'

I wish I tried one of the Kim Possible missions, but Brandon never wanted to do one, he thought they were for kids! I'm definitely doing one of the new Agent P missions in November! :thumbsup2

Ugh...that walk to Mexico almost killed me one day! Seriously, if I stayed out in the heat any longer that day, I would have probably ended up in the hospital or something...not looking forward to reliving that in my TR!

I'm impressed with the amount of drinking you can do in the heat! :thumbsup2 It's so annoying, I have every intention of drinking and relaxing and having a good time in Disney (especially Epcot) but when it's hot like that, forget it, if I even look at alcohol, I get a migraine and heat stroke. It's not a good combination for me! Drinking around the world is one of the things I look forward to most about Epcot and I really couldn't do it in May. It better be like 70 degrees the whole time in November so I can make up for it! :rotfl2:

Oh yeah-I'm glad you spoke up about the ducks! I saw so many kids chasing ducks (not babies, but still) and throwing stuff at them and just being little brats, basically, and their parents just let them, it made me so mad. If I saw one of them actually try to hurt them I would have spoken up too, but luckily, these were adult ducks, they would run for a minute, then be like "screw this, I'm just flying away!" :thumbsup2

Good for you for speaking up on behalf of the poor little duckies!!!

Was the cucumber margarita good??? I really want to try it next time!!

That's so sweet that you were able to answer Ben's phone booth call!! :goodvibes

I never did Kim Possible either as I didn't know adults could do it!!

Love all the drinks you had. Hoping October is not as warm as heat and alcohol will also not be a good combo for me. Love the Grey Goose Slushies! Can't wait to try another one!

YUM wow those drinks all look fantastic! I can't wait until I can drink without worrying about how much I'm having.

So glad you spoke up for the ducks! That made me so mad to hear the kids parents were just watching. Idiots.

I'm impressed in your drinking around the world, only to end up at the bar at the resort! :rotfl: That's awesome. Your KP mission sounds like fun, esp since they are no more (phinneas and ferb or something?). And I love  that your DH called on the UK phones and you were able to answer. So darn sweet!

Hey, great trip report so far. I am glad to see that you had fun. What was playing on the TV at "50's Prime Time Cafe" ?

Joining in !!! Mark looks like such a fun person !!!

How cool that it was Ben on the phone when you answered. Looking forward to reading more !!

Glad Mark enjoyed the KP Missions. I've never done them, but telling CMs a code word and getting a special prize in return sounds like fun.

I've heard so many great things about the drinks in Mexico that despite the fact that it was crazy hot out, it was probably well worth the trip through World Showcase. But man, Epcot was the worst with the brutal weather, in my opinion. There's just not a lot of shade in WS, and it's pretty congested at certain places. :confused3

The KP missions were a hit with us. It got us to check out parts of the World Showcase that we may never have seen, otherwise.

Drinking in the heat helps me! A cold beverage, and it keeps my mind off of melting. I do make sure to drink plenty of water, though!

It was good! Surprisingly spicy, though- they muddle peppers in there too.

I never did Kim Possible either as I didn't know adults could do it!!

I really hope October is cooler- I don't want to be a melting sweaty mess all over again!

Joining in for another one of your reports! :cheer2:

Thanks for reading!! :yay:

Yeah, the parents were dolts. They would've had a riot on their hands had precious Nicolas actually succeeded in squashing a duckling!

What can I say- I am a talented drinker. ;)

Hey, great trip report so far. I am glad to see that you had fun. What was playing on the TV at "50's Prime Time Cafe" ?

Thank you!! They played several clips at 50's PTC... I'm not sure which shows were on- I do remember the Mickey Mouse Club, though.

Joining in !!! Mark looks like such a fun person !!!

Thank you so much for stopping by! Mark is a fun person- he always keeps me laughing.

Glad Mark enjoyed the KP Missions. I've never done them, but telling CMs a code word and getting a special prize in return sounds like fun.

There have been times when I thought I was going to spontaneously combust in the WS. But I always manage to cool of just in time. I hope, hope, hope the weather is kinder in October!

I'm so bummed kimpossible is gone :sad1: I just did it for the first time back in April and couldn't wait to do the rest of the countries missed with the fam. Oh well.

Random question...did they change the missions in the countries frequently or have more than one that you could get? Because that was definitely not our France mission!

On a happier note, all your drinks looked delish!

Okay you seriously had the exact afternoon at Epcot that I want to have on one of my upcoming trips. Nothing but adult beverages and exploring the WS. Can you believe we've never done Kim Possible? And I guess we'll never get the chance since it will soon be Phineas and Ferb, though I think the missions are staying the same, so we'll give it a shot.

We've also never been to La Cava (horrifying :scared1: for two adults who travel to Disney with no kids).

I loved that Ben called you on the WS phone! Great timing.
