I am just curious maybe I am out of the loop but when is the Michael Jackson memorial at Staples Center?? It is tomorrow right? Why are the tv stations broadcasting live today at 1 or am I just mistaken??? I could swear I heard coverage starts today at 1.

I hope not that would mess up my soaps lol

I heard Tuesday as well. It just seems like the media would rather talk about this than all of the real problems in the world. MJ is already dead -- nothing can be done to help him now.

Tuesday 1pm EST, all the networks are broadcasting it, NBC was the last hold out but they gave in

Is there going to be this huge memorial service and then a more private funeral for his family and close friends?

I just think its kinda sad if his funeral/memorial service is nothing but a big circus. Maybe this is just a way for his fans to remember him and then there will be a more traditional service?

I believe there will be a private service this evening.

I think they are having this public memorial service so that the fans will be far away from the real, private service the family is having.

One of the TV stations, ABC or NBC had a blurb at the bottom of their advertising that said this is "Remembering MJ week." I thought, isn't that what were they doing last week? :confused3

I came on to post the same question.

All the networks showing it??

Isn't it more of a concert than a service? I read a few performers Mirah Carey and Jennifer Hudson for sure......I think I read Justin Timberlake too??

Wondering how they'll do commercial breaks too. :confused3

The way the media are covering it, you would think a President died.

And the way they are talking about the memorial service tomorrow at the Staples Center, makes it sound like a concert....which I think is disrespectful. It's a funeral not a concert.

The funeral is before. I heard they are burying him in Forest Lawn. The staples thing is just a memorial. He will be already buried and btw not a day too soon. HOW long can they keep him preserved?

It's also another way to make some people lots of money. Can you imagine the downloads on Itunes this concert will bring?? I believe all the performers will be singing MJ songs...

Are you serious? I had no idea all the networks are broadcasting the memorial. Is that really necessary?

There actually IS a circus going on at Staples Center tomorrow. It starts to set-up right after the memorial. Odd, no?

I think it should be shown on MTV, only.

It's sad when anyone passes. But I think a concert/memorial "event" is way over the top. And it is the height of irony that the Barnum and Bailey circus is performing at the same venue less than 24 hours later. They are marching the elephants in very early Tuesday morning. You can't make this stuff up.

Very.

I think this "memorial" is ridiculous even for Michael Jackson. The man is dead and someone is trying to make a buck from it--disgraceful. :sad2: I hope that at least his children will be reaping the benefits from this thing.

I saw Debbie Rowe on TV this morning being asked if she will fight for the kids. She didn't come off as a mothering type person at all.

I missed it , what did she say ?

please note...when i die...i TOTALLY want a concert thrown in my honor. :lmao:

in all seriousness though - no, this ISN'T a funeral, it's a way for fans to mourn and be together. i think it will be much more of a celebration of his music and performances, and a way of remembering his life.

i mean, i'm still pretty young so death really isn't something i think about on a daily basis, but i've told my brother a million times - when i die, i don't want a sad funeral, i want everyone to just get together and partyyyy and talk about how amazing & funny i was, hahaha. :rolleyes1 (note: these plans may change, but HOLY MOLY do funerals freak me out. that scene is just not for me!!)

i mean, come on people...the guy was an entertainer...you don't think he'd be THRILLED to know that all of these other artists and his fans were going to come out in full force to honor him?

i do agree though, the coverage has been a wee ridiculous. but i think after this big thing, and all of the ruckus around it, people will be over it. "Going out with a bang", as it were.
