DO not kill me.....Michael Jackson Question

Very.

I think this "memorial" is ridiculous even for Michael Jackson. The man is dead and someone is trying to make a buck from it--disgraceful. :sad2: I hope that at least his children will be reaping the benefits from this thing.

I saw Debbie Rowe on TV this morning being asked if she will fight for the kids. She didn't come off as a mothering type person at all.

I don't believe there is a charge to attend. The public tickets were distributed by lottery.

i mean, come on people...the guy was an entertainer...you don't think he'd be THRILLED to know that all of these other artists and his fans were going to come out in full force to honor him?

i do agree though, the coverage has been a wee ridiculous. but i think after this big thing, and all of the ruckus around it, people will be over it. "Going out with a bang", as it were.

I agree he'd love the attention. I hope you're right about on big event, and then people will be over it. Unfortunately, I have my doubts.
Just think about how fixated people are to this day on Elvis. M. Jackson will probably be worse.

We'll have MJ sightings (just like UFO's...only more frequently), People who think they see a profile of MJ on the side of buildings, "Images" of MJ on grilled cheese sandwiches, cheetos in the "form" of MJ...you name it, they'll find it (or pretend to "see" it) and attempt to market it. Ugh.

Very true, but I'm guessing that the "Special Issue Tribute DVD" that will inevitably be produced afterward will be free. It might give proceeds to charity, of course, but there will be some cost.

Can't get away from it... radio, tv, internet, cell phone, but you know what I'm still gonna watch tomorrow. :headache:

...Like a fly to the light

I missed it , what did she say ?

She didn't really say anything about the kids or actually anything at all. She just asked the reporter if he wanted his butt beat for touching her. He was asking if she was going to fight for her kids and she wouldn't answer, just kept telling him not to touch her (he said that he didn't touch her). I just think if I wanted my kids, I would try to come across as a loving mother.

oh, ok. I guess I misunderstood when they kept calling them tickets. I am glad to know that there is no charge and that it is more like a big party in his honor.

Copied from Perez Hilton:

The Jackson family just announced the names of participants at tomorrow's memorial for Michael:

They are (in alphabetical order):

Ron Boyd (family friend); Kobe Bryant; Mariah Carey; Andrae Crouch Choir; Berry Gordy; Jennifer Hudson; Shaheen Jafargholi (finalist on Britain’s Got Talent); Magic Johnson; Martin Luther King III; Bernice A. King; John Mayer; Lionel Richie; Smokey Robinson; Rev. Al Sharpton; Brooke Shields; Pastor Lucious Smith (family friend); Usher; and Stevie Wonder.

It's a bit too much to have it on every channel tomorrow.. One or two cable channels perhaps, but really - all of the constant coverage has already annoyed a large number of television viewers.. This should really "push them over the top"..

wow that is not even a thrilling line up. Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson yeah they are pillars of society. WHAT no Jesse Jackson...wth....this is HIS type of event. Honestly, THIS MAN IS AN ENTERTAINER he did not cure cancer or lose his life defending his country. What upsets me is the cost that will be incurred. They said 3000 fire and police would be working on this.
Why do we as a society idolize people like this and then ignore the true heros .

Thank you Bella, I really have to agree with you on this. What have we as a couNtry done for the more than 4000 men and women who have lost their lives in Iraq? And why does it require all tv stations, come on, what are the rest of us supposed to do :confused3

Not to defend this whole thing, but the Los Angeles Acting Mayor lady said in a press conference that with this being Los Angeles, they have in the annual city budget money put aside for such huge services. It isn't like they are taking money away from other community needs to pay for this event.

That said, I work really, really close to Forest Lawn Hollywood. (It is actually in Burbank, across the 134.) The helicopters have been going non-stop for about an hour.

Is it possible they are burying him now instead of tomorrow AM as planned? I can't see past the building next to me from here to count how many chopters are up there.

I couldn't have said it better myself! I still can't believe the networks are going to broadcast this memorial. I agree with the previous poster who said show it on MTV. That makes sense. If anything, show it on MTV, VH1 and E! but leave the other networks out of it.

TMZ is now reporting that Michael's body will be at the Staples Center later today, but I don't see how that's possible. I thought the family was having their memorial earlier, but I guess they aren't burying him at their memorial and that will done at another time :confused3

:cheer2::cheer2: I love your post!!!

I am the op and actually, I am kind of amazed that his thread went on for 35 posts!! I was just wondering when the circus was going to start and did not think it would extend more than 1 or 2 posts:rotfl:. I have the tv on and they said 3, 500 la pd officers I am sorry I incorrectly reported 3000 I was off by ...500.

OMG this is so ludicris.....it is like a car wreck I want to look away but I cannot. I guess I am watching to see to what heights they will bring this atrocity.

So here is my question if Michael wanted to support the downtrodden and was so caring as is reported, then why did they not take the money that this memorial will cost and fund a wothy cause in his memory?

As far as I know CA is paying for the officers and security and almost everything. Just what they need to do since they state is already past bankrupt

Our Temp Mayor has been asking for donations. It seems they didn't have enough for this madness. Where are the money bags-famous people? Oprah? Anyone?

Excellent point where is Oprah? Donations? Doesn't charity begin at home? Honestly it really upsets me that whomever organized this was so immune to the economic plight of the city .

Looks to me like they could feed the masses just with the cost of the casket which I might add will be destroyed because it is rumored he will be creamated. That means the casket will appear for auction because they use only a very flamable and cheap casket for creamation.
