This will be our first time flying and I read that we need I.D., but my kids don't have any, so do we have to take their birth certificates? Please help!

We just flew NW in Jan 05, and didn't need them for our kids. I did bring them just in case though

Only passengers 18 and over are required to have ID for security clearance and ID verification. If you happen to be flying with a lap child, most airlines will require you to present proof that the child is under 2 years of age. And all of that being said, as the previous poster stated, its never a bad idea to have the childrens' birth certificate with you anyway... you just never know if you'll need them for something.

DS is turning 8 in June, he has flown 4 times so far, and all 4 times, I have had a copy of his BC with us, "just in case" We've never been required to show it, but it made me feel better to have it. But then again, I tend to suffer from a little travel OCD :rotfl:

I traveled many times with DD's (now 7 and 9) always bring the bc but have never had to use it.

To coin the ol' American Express commercials..."Don't leave home without it."
