Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

All caught up! Great updates! I am with Connor on the fish smell! Eek! LOL!

Sorry about Charles not feeling well! I have low blood sugar and I have to carry protein bars with me, especially when I travel. Hope he felt better to have fun with you all!

Sorry Charles had such a bad morning. Hopefully he feels better and is able to join you guys later. That breakfast is going on my must-do list for next year. We ate at that one years ago when it was at Restaurantosaurus but my dd was scared of the characters and ate not one bite (frustrating because we were paying OOP!). So, we need a do-over! Plus, getting in before opening is so much fun!:thumbsup2

I know what you mean! I can't begin to tell you how many times I have run numbers for a fall trip just to get back there. I may have cured my resortitis by finding the resort that I always want to stay at -- I just don't know if the bank account will allow that.

I am so glad I am not the only one that does this! My DH thinks it's crazy that I am running numbers so soon after returning. I want to go again this fall/winter and have it be a surprise for my kids but my district has no fall break, rules about me taking off around holidays and the week after Thanksgiving and Christmas are SO expensive. Not sure dh or the wallet will be able to handle it!!

I love the pics from the breakfast. Sorry Charles was feeling cruddy.... and sad you missed Donald. I think we have to eat there next time, Daisy is a big hit in our home!

You are so right, Animal Kingdom in the morning is soooo peaceful, if only they would lock tha gate at that point...

Charles was making me nervous with his blood sugar issue, actually I wondered how his blood sugar was when you came back the night before and he had not had anything to eat. In my world low blood sugar equals instant diva.

The kids cracked me up with those mouth full of food pictures ! :lmao:
Ahuummm and where are those ears we made the special trip to MK for so that we could wear them for every picture ?!

Hey CP:

1. I LOVE your early morning AK pictures. They are great!

2. Breakfast at Tusker House sounds great! I remember having breakfast at the old Restaurantsaurus and I loved those characters. I might just have to do breakfast in September, but at the rate I am going with ADR's I may the DxDP soon! :rotfl:

3. Sorry Charles started feeling poorly after breakfast. It must be extremely hard to regulate insulin while at disney world. Having to worry about the timing of everything must be a real pain. I hope he starts feeling better soon! He needs some :wizard:

Donald pantomimed something. I think I have it narrowed down to one of two things. It was either:

"I will go around to the other tables and will come back."

Or:

"I have to keep going to the other tables -- they are out of luck."

At any rate, I nodded my head and once again speaking louder than normal (in case he couldn't hear me due to all the fur ) said, "Okay, Donald! Bye!"
Girl you crack me up!

I'm now worried. You said you didn't see a lot of Charles on this trip and I'm wondering if blood sugar issues continue :confused3

I'm not normally a big breakfast eater but there sure is something about a Disney breakfast that makes me think (maybe) I could change my mind about food in the morning

I wish for Connor's sake that you had realized his CS credits could be used for an adult meal. we did this a lot with our CS meals but most often, we bought 3 adult meals for the 4 of us. The boys (who are pretty light eaters) would share a meal and have some of mine if they needed. This left us with enough credits for 5 CS meals instead of 4 so we had lunch covered on the last day. I know the next time we take them we will more likely be in the situation of them not being able to get enough to eat! (darn those cute little boys of ours growing up without permission!)

great update Jackie!!

I so so so want to go to AK in the morning before rope drop!! How beautiful! I may have to look into a early morning breakfast there:rolleyes1

Paula

Oooo....early morning pics from an almost empty Animal Kingdom! :yay::yay::yay:

You know how I love those, right?

And you know how much this makes me want to eat at Tusker House, right? Look at how much fun you all are having!

Except for Charles. He can't catch a break, can he? My husband's last boss was diabetic, so we know how scary it can be when those levels drop. I hope the day picks up for him. :goodvibes

Another great update CP. Even though I really thought touring the parks doing CS was a great way for us to go on our first trip......I do have to admit that in the future just about any breakfast IN the parks before it opens is a winner.......and with Characters a real, win-win!!!

Well, it doesn't look like Charles will need to me stand up and say, BUT...at least not on this outing!! I like everyone else am hopeful that he is able to get his blood sugar regulated and that it doesn't continue to be an issue for him all week.

OH, and thanks for getting MeMom out of trouble (though I'm not sure she is completely out of trouble just yet!!) and giving us the update before Shocker dug deeper down into that trailer of his and unloaded something else to play with!!!! :rolleyes1

Poor Charles! I hope that he feels better and is able to meet up with you guys!

Early morning at AK looks just lovely! And that breakfast sounds delicious eventhough I'm not a breakfast eater generally.

:rotfl: at the picture of Connor with the potato in his hand for Mickey. :rotfl:

I was also going to comment on how color coordinated and AK appropriate the kids' outfits are. :thumbsup2

You are so cute talking loudly to the characters! :goodvibes

I like your early morning AKL pics alot.. Its soo crazy seeing parks empty esp in person.. I am super excited to get to the AKL... Like 3 years ago when I first learned about AKL and what it was. It was my dream to get there. Being a young 'kid' I had no money to afford it.. But, the summer special rates means the AKL room is 159$ a nite.. WOOOOT I can afford that and BAMN dream comes true.. Did I mention my bday week was the lowest rate week out of all the summer. I really lucked out.. I hope I didnt ramble too much.. Keep your report comings its great..

Awww!! I love your Tusker House pics! So Donald really didn't come back to your table? I thought they kept track of which characters saw which tables. That stinks! And sorry your hubby had blood sugar issues. That's no fun!

OH, and thanks for getting MeMom out of trouble (though I'm not sure she is completely out of trouble just yet!!)

Let's stay focused on the giraffe holding the Africa sign, please!!!

026.jpg

Besides that, I've been nice all day.
And tomorrow, I have a workshop all day, so I will not be here to say anything harmful. :)

What nice children not to open their mouths full of food. Tell them it is much appreciated by the viewing audience.

I haven't done this breakfast yet, but it's on my long list of things to get around to.

I love that everyone is color coordinated in the pics. Your kids were better than me. If I was about to miss Donald I would have been flying across the room, spilling food as I came. I love the duck! :cloud9:

It's too bad that Charles was going to have to miss another part of a park day. I hope he was feeling better later to join up with you.

The colors weren't even planned -- it just happened that way! :lmao:

:lmao: about flying across the room -- I would have been that way, too!

He does join us later -- he wouldn't miss Everest!

Oh, Poor Charles! Low blood sugar is not fun to deal with. I hope he was feeling better and able to join you later in the day.

I want to go to Tusker House someday, it sounds yummy. I love breakfat buffets more than any other type of buffet. :cloud9:

When it dips like that, it's very scary to me. He does rejoin us later.

I love breakfast buffets as well and Tusker House's is delicious!

:lmao:about your loud speaking to the costumed characters!!!My aunt does the same thing!!
With the except of Charles, it sounds like you guys are off to a great morning at AK:goodvibes

I never noticed it until I was talking to Donald -- when I realized it I kind of felt idiotic, but couldn't stop myself. LOL!

It was a great morning at Animal Kingdom and it gets better.

Oh poor Charles! Not feeling good at Disney is the pits... Tusker House for breakfast is just the best. I would love to get there to an empty park someday. I might try to book that for December!
I'm guessing the kids had mouths full of food when no teeth were showing! But they did a great job smiling with all that food stuffed in there. Connor and the potato!:rotfl2: What a kid! You can tell that Chelsea is in her element, first full day at the parks :cloud9:, what could be better?

Oh, you should try for December -- it is so wonderful to see AK without tons of people.

Yep, when their mouths are closed, that's when they had food crammed in there!

Connor and that potato! :sad2: I think he offered it to Mickey more than once. Ha ha!

Poor Charles, did he feel better later so he could join up with you guys?

Yes, he does rejoin us later in the day! :goodvibes

Ooooh...Tusker House it sounds like the kids and you guys really enjoyed the meal....that makes me feel a lot better considering I may or may not be eating there in my near future LOL :rolleyes1 Love the picture of Chelsea and Connor with the characters!

:lmao: You girls are KILLING me!!!

I'm sorry to hear Charles wasn't feeling well, at least he was close to resort so he could get back quickly and get some rest. I really hope he was able to make it back later in the day to enjoy some of AK with you guys!!!

It was nice that he was so close to the resort, both from when he left and when he rejoined us.

I love the yield to the elephant sign...I'm so going to have to try to find that one...HILARIOUS!!!

It's behind Tusker House.

We had fun at Tusker House too - but we'd had a late night the night before so it was tough to get up!

I'm sorry Charles was having trouble with this blood sugar... I hope he is able to meet up with you later. :goodvibes

It was tough getting up for us, and I am pretty sure we had gotten to bed at a decent hour.

Oh CP, you brought back such great memories of our early morning at Tusker House in January! :goodvibes

We got to the park way too early as well...that bus ride was so quick! At least you didn't freeze while you were waiting to get into the park. :sad2:

Were there just a ton of people waiting to be called into the restaurant? I was shocked at what a mass of confusion it was outside. But it was so worth it!

Nope, no freezing but it was already heating up for the day!

There was a ton of people, but it seemed to go smoothly. We checked in, they called us, they snapped a picture, and then we were led inside.

I hope that charles feels better I have yet to have a tusker house breakfast!

You need to eat there -- Charles does feel better later on.

Sub! I looove this TR! I read yourr PTR, well half hehe, and have the same trouble planning as you do. I sit around and think about every detail I could change :). Can't wait for more!

:welcome: Thanks for joining! I am still trying to plan -- this time non-existent trips that won't happen. LOL!

Oh how frustrating with the blood sugar situation, I can only imagine what that must be like to deal with. Great pictures, even sans Donald, the kids look like they are having a blast. A character breakfast is a must on our next trip...even if I have to leave half the crew in bed! :)

It can be frustrating when Charles' blood sugar does goofy things. We had a great time at Tusker House -- we try to do at least one character breakfast every trip.

Love the pictures of Chelsea and Connor with the characters. I'm like you, I tend to talk louder to the characters too. :confused3 Sounds like Charles was having a hard time keeping his blood sugar regulated this trip, in which case we can forgive him for being MIA so much.; unless there's more to the story, in which case I reserve my right to take away his free pass. LOL

Thanks! Well, there might be other stories so don't be too free with the passes just yet.

What a great start to the day eating at Tusker House. The park looks so nice without everyone!! It must have been very peaceful. :cloud9: You mentioned you had the jungle juice...is it the same juice that is served at Boma breakfast? Mango, papaya, pineapple and orange I think? I tried to make it once and it was horrid!! :rotfl2: I even followed a recipe!!:sad2:

It was very peaceful -- it is the same juice as the juice at Boma -- Chelsea fell in love with it and had it when we ate at Boma as well -- she even got a to-go cup. LOL!

Oh no, I hope Charles felt better soon. Tusker House looked like so much fun!! I've heard the food's delicious too. I'm glad you had a good time!

He does feel better! Tusker House was fun and delicious!

Poor Charles and his low blood sugar. The kids looked like the enjoyed breakfast. The jungle juice was so good. Hannah loved it!

Yes, Chelsea developed quite a love of that juice as well! They both did their best to put a large dent in the buffet! LOL!

Ya know, whenever I'm looking at dining ressies, I never think to make breakfast ones at AK. Thank you for sharing that, I'll have to keep Tusker House in mind during my next trip! :goodvibes:thumbsup2

Yes, Tusker House is great for breakfast -- we like to do that and then a counter service for a late lunch/early dinner.

Yikes for Charles!:scared1: I hope he was able to recover and come to meet you.:confused3

I love, love the Tusker House Character Breakfast, too! I love doing the character breakfasts because it seems to just jump start the day! And, getting into the parks a little earlier is a bonus, too!:goodvibes

I love that you were speaking loudly to the fur filled characters!:lmao: I think it makes sense to do that, you would think it'd be hard to hear through all of that!

Charles does recover. :goodvibes

My family loves big breakfasts so we get breakfast out of the way and are already in the park -- it works out great!

I think I speak louder to them because they can't talk back and I have never been very good at charades.

Breakfast looked yummy. Too bad about Donald-I assume since he didnt come back by he must have the 2nd of your two interpretations. :rotfl:

Poor Charles, I know how he feels. I have reactive hypoglycemia and it hits me fast and then its usually too late to prevent the feeling bad. Hope he felt better later.

Nope, Donald never came back. :sad2:

It's hard for him when his blood sugar goes high and then low very quickly. What do you do for your hypoglycemia? Charles tends to drink orange juice but I am always curious if there is something better.

Hi CP- Lovin your report so far! quick question....where did you get that awesome Jungle Book tee for Connor- my ds is 10 and that was his very first disney movie he ever watched and he was completely obsessed with it! I need that tee cause I am all about theme-ing up for the parks! thanks!

Thank you! We found the Jungle Book tee last summer at the Disney store. I put it away for this summer. We love the movie at our house -- we even named our cat Bagheera!

Poor Charles - that's no fun! Hope he felt better later in the day.

I am so glad to hear Tusker House is a hit - we're wanting to get those breakfast reservations as well this trip, so I am glad to hear it's a good one! :thumbsup2

Charles did feel better later on.

It is a very good one -- we have eaten there twice now and both times we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Great report so far...can't wait to read more! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much!!! :goodvibes

What a great sounding breakfast! The characters look so cute dressed all in safari wear. Your kids look like they enjoyed themselves, but sound like my older two this trip when it came to the characters. They enjoyed meeting them when they came to the table, but it was more about the food. Ah man, poor Charles. Hoping to hear he felt better quickly. How did the kids react to Dad being absent?

It kind of made me sad about the characters -- they used to be all about them all and this trip, they just really weren't. Like you said, they enjoyed meeting them, but it was more about the food.

Chelsea and Connor truly understand all the ins and outs of Charles' diabetes, so they were completely understanding. Connor even asked what Charles' blood sugar was when he took it.

Tusker House looks like so much fun. This excites me because it's definitely on our ADR list for December! I'm glad to read a rave review. :) I'm so sorry Charles had problems with his blood sugar. What a downer for his vacation. So, what does a zebra dome actually taste like? Can you get them anywhere else besides AKL?

It was a lot of fun! You will enjoy it there -- it's cute how it is all themed like a safari outpost with packing gear on the walls and such.

Unfortunately, the heat sometimes wreaks havoc on Charles' blood sugar levels.

Zebra domes are only at AKL -- it is hard to describe exactly -- it is like a small layer cake only so much more delicious!

John, Brooklynn and I ate at Tusker House in october. We really enjoyed the buffet as well. We hope to do it again and this time schedule it for before the park opens.

It was quite tasty, wasn't it? You should definitely schedule a before-park time -- you can be one of the first people on the safari! :thumbsup2

All caught up! Great updates! I am with Connor on the fish smell! Eek! LOL!

Sorry about Charles not feeling well! I have low blood sugar and I have to carry protein bars with me, especially when I travel. Hope he felt better to have fun with you all!

Connor is so dramatic! :sad2:

What kind of protein bars? That's a good idea -- do they have a lot of carbs in them?

Sorry Charles had such a bad morning. Hopefully he feels better and is able to join you guys later. That breakfast is going on my must-do list for next year. We ate at that one years ago when it was at Restaurantosaurus but my dd was scared of the characters and ate not one bite (frustrating because we were paying OOP!). So, we need a do-over! Plus, getting in before opening is so much fun!:thumbsup2

Oh, yes, Charles joins up with us later -- he loves Everest and didn't want to miss it.

You definitely need a do-over! :thumbsup2

I am the same way -- and my district doesn't allow days off before or after holidays -- which always puts a crimp in my plans. Why I can't add a day to Labor Day or Columbus Day is beyond me.

I don't think we will be able to afford another trip anytime soon, but I sure wish we could. I have a bad case of the Disney Blues today.

I love the pics from the breakfast. Sorry Charles was feeling cruddy.... and sad you missed Donald. I think we have to eat there next time, Daisy is a big hit in our home!

Thank you! I am sad we missed Donald, too. It doesn't seem right to have gone to Donald's Safari Breakfast and not have a picture with him.

Daisy is so cute in her little safari outfit -- the girls would love meeting her!

You are so right, Animal Kingdom in the morning is soooo peaceful, if only they would lock tha gate at that point...

:rotfl: I agree!

Charles was making me nervous with his blood sugar issue, actually I wondered how his blood sugar was when you came back the night before and he had not had anything to eat. In my world low blood sugar equals instant diva.

I was surprised about that, too. I think eating breakfast and lunch from fast food places kept it from dropping that night.

Oh, yes, when Charles has low blood sugar, I can almost tell a difference in his mood.

The kids cracked me up with those mouth full of food pictures ! :lmao:
Ahuummm and where are those ears we made the special trip to MK for so that we could wear them for every picture ?!

I know! They couldn't even stop eating long enough to have empty mouths for the characters. LOL!

You won't believe it, but Chelsea and Connor said their ears were too hot, and didn't wear them the rest of the week!

Hey CP:

Thanks, MEK! Seeing the theming of Tusker House is worth doing the breakfast again, in my opinion! It is hard for him to regulate his insulin when it is really hot, and he is walking a lot. Most of the time we manage pretty well though. There were only a couple of times that were a bit tricky.

Sounds like a yummy way to start your Sunday!

Sorry about Charles not feeling well. Poor guy.

I love that you speak loudly to the fur characters. I think I may do the same thing now that you mention it. I have a kind of soft voice anyway - so hopefully it just comes out at a normal volume level.

Looking forward to the next update. popcorn::

I need to put breakfast at Tusker house on ;my to do list for next time. It would be nice to enjoy walking into AK instead of being sucked into the mass of humanity that carries you along wether you want to go or not.

I hope Charles was feeling better soon!
