Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Thanks!

I just booked the trip on Monday morning, so it is BRAND NEW!!! And, you really didn't miss the ticker because I only posted it yesterday afternoon. We are really excited. :cool1::cool1:

We haven't told Ben yet... Nate will be away at college and Ben really wants to go to Food & Wine, but 1) it is an anniversary trip and 2) Ben will not want to miss a week of school.

:goodvibes

Your secret is safe with me!:goodvibes

Can I ask for a bit of advice from the experts?? We are booked at YC (garden/woods) for the first week of May. For a little more, I can switch to BC (standard). We are four adults, so I picked the calmness of YC... but wondering if BC would be a better choice because of the refurb. I know it's a roll of the dice to find out how many YC rooms will be finished by then.

So, what would YOU do in my situation?? Thanks for any help/thoughts!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

My advice is to keep the YC GV room. The views will be much better and it is a less expensive room. We have no idea when the refurb will be happening or how far along it will be in May. Even if it is in full-swing by then, Disney does their very best to insulate guests from even noticing there is work going on around you. And finally, if you find that the work will be in full force during the time of your trip, there is probably a very good chance you could alter your reservation without much or any penalty.

ETA: You will also have a full balcony at the YC. That extra space will nice to have with 4 adults in the room.

:thumbsup2

I'm no expert but my feeling is to keep your YC reservation for a couple reasons. A better view for less $$ and you are guaranteed to have a full balcony. With 4 adults in the room, I wouldn't want a Juliette balcony.

I agree with everything Natebenma says above. Keep your YC reservation :thumbsup2

Jinx with dansdad! I added the comment about the balcony as you were posting your comment.

Thanks to both of you! Our actual dates are May 6-10... after part of our party finishes a stay at POFQ. You both pretty much summed up my thoughts about the better view - the refurb itself does not concern me at all - My only thought is better view/cheaper at YC vs. the guarantee of a freshly refurbed room at BC.

Please pop in now and then as you look forward to the 2017 trip.

Just wanted to say :welcome:

Let us know if you will be staying here!

:cool1:

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:woohoo:

There is some great info and tips on Page 1, especially Posts 13 and 14, where you will learn about the YC and BC secret exits and how to smuggle a Grey Goose Slushie out of EPCOT.

::yes::

Glad you got to spend some time with Teena! Sorry I missed you.

Are you back at BCV for Oct and/or next Jan?

:goodvibes:

Will do! Sounds like a wonderful trip, even if I won't be there with my adoptive family.

:banana::banana::banana:

Yes you can use my photos and comments no problem :)

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and reviews. May I add your pictures and comments to the View Thread?

:thumbsup2

:welcome:

Thanks for your kind words and for reading my report. I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

:santa:

This was recently discussed. I'll try to find the posts. HockeyMomR, who is tall (5 feet 10 inches) was very comfortable on the daybed in our room. While all 5 feet of me had a queen to myself. (All the better for a fashion show)

;)

:welcome: back!

Will do!!!

I will also be anxiously watching the refurb news as I am in the same boat (or Yacht as it were) as you for the fall.

Very exciting Dee....you are going to have a FABULOUS trip!!!

Just saw on a DVC news site that The Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show is closing for good on 4/2/16....DH is not going to be happy about this! It's part of the DHS "expansion" project.

I realize this is a question that gets asked all the time, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but ... is there a thread or FAQ that talks about room requests and what a person might want to think about? We're staying at BC in a woods/garden view. I know king bed versus queen and full balcony versus standing, but anything else I should think about? Quite honestly, I don't know that I need to request anything because I'll just be happy to be there, but then again if the experts think there's something I should consider, I most definitely will!

I have a little bit written up in the FAQ post (Post 13) about rooms requests. They are very subjective, and what is important for one family is different than the priority for another family.

Make sure the room assigner knows which request(s) are most important to you. It is also best to limit your requests to the one or two that you want the most. That will increase the likelihood that you will get one or both of them.

Some requests are, full balcony, king bed, daybed, close to elevator, far from elevator, near lobby/transportation/pool, close to EPCOT, first floor, high floor. For woods/garden view, I would probably request "Courtyard view" over woods view, although the woods views are closer to EPCOT.

We even had one person staying at the YC request "Not near the wedding gazebo" because she was supposed to be married there and the wedding was cancelled.

Hope that helps.

As always, thanks so much!!! I think I might like the idea of requesting Courtyard view. How much further from Epcot do you think that would be? I'm really not opposed to walking.

I'll put you on the list for both of those dates.

Maybe we will cross paths in October. I am at the resort Oct 16-21.

Congrats on the anniversary trip.

Must be anniversary trip time. Just proposed a trip to Mike earlier today for a long weekend to celebrate our 30th (I left him a note in his lunch bag that I packed him for work so he seen it when he ate at 4 am). Our anniversary is 10/1. We will be celebrating our 30th while WDW celebrates its 45th that day. I also proposed dinner at Shulas or California Grill to celebrate. Needless to say he said yes. Will book it once JetBlue opens airfare up.

If you go to the local orchards here in Clermont, you can get real Florida oranges.

WAWA .... it's sort of like a 7-Eleven but way way better. WAWA is a store where if you were northeasters, you grew up getting their hoagies (otherwise known as subs) and coffee. They make the best hoagies ever. They put Subway to shame. Apparently the owner retired to Florida a few years ago and started putting them up all over Florida. When the first sign appeared in Clermont that a WAWA was coming, there was a huge party ... people were talking about nothing else. Bob goes every morning for their breakfast sandwich and coffee. I go at least twice a week for their soft pretzels and hoagies. Jeanne finds a reason to take the car out at least every other day for their spinach salad and soft pretzels. There are a few near Disney now too!! And their gas is always the cheapest around.
Wawa is the best.... I live right outside of Philly and it is a daily stop for me.

I stayed at Beach Club for marathon weekend, after a few years absence- I've stayed at a few ither WDW resorts on my more recent trips. Part way through the weekend, I found myself wondering why I EVER stay anywhere else! Now I remember why I love BC so much. This was also my first time since the refurbed rooms- they are beautiful!! I even got to do one last pin trade with Teena :)
