Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

BC CL is a garden view better than a standard view? I thought it would be but the garden view is cheaper??? Every time I go to book I have another question. The advice I have received on this thread has been so helpful. Thank you all.
Rack rates (non-discounted room rates) are lower for Standard View, than either Garden/Woods View or Lagoon/Pool View. When comparing room rates, make sure that you are not comparing discounted room rates against non-discounted rack rates. This may not be as obvious, if looking at an online travel agency's site, such as Orbitz. Just know that Standard View will always be the least desirable view and most cost-effective rate, when comparing against other non-discounted rooms, or comparing dscounted rate to discounted rate.

First timers at YC but have visited WDW before (ASMu, ASMo, POR, CBR, Poly, Pop, CS, Dolphin) but I think I'm most excited about this one. We're doing club level in Nov and celebrating a bday. This thread has been a major reason I chose YC! if anyone has any tips, secrets, do not miss that they'd like to share about YC (or BC?) we'd love to hear it! Couldn't be more excited!

Can you add us? YC CL 11/10-11/16. (Nancy and sandy). Ty!!

BC CL is a garden view better than a standard view? I thought it would be but the garden view is cheaper??? Every time I go to book I have another question. The advice I have received on this thread has been so helpful. Thank you all.

I always go with a standard view, but not at YC or BC. With them, I go with nothing lower than a garden view category.

Hmmm. All this talk of YC being booked is odd. We booked a garden view club level room for Sept 10-17 with the bounceback discount less than a month ago. Lagoon view was available too. Only asked about those 2 categories.

Maybe it is the renovations. If they're gonna close the floor, I hope they give good amount of notice & offer a move to another resort with the discount.

But for now Dee, please add us to the Be Our Guest list: DH & I at YC Regatta club (garden view) 9/10 - 17. Celebrating our 38th anniversary. Thanks!! Hope we get to stay at YC!!

I guess the blackout caused by the magical agency exclusive deal isn't helping either... especially with standard rooms.

p. 355-356 Going to try to get caught up this morning.
Your question got me thinking... I have not rented a car for a family Disney vacation. I would love if some of our friends here who do can give me an estimate of the time from wheels down on the plane, to luggage retrieval, to time to pickup rental car (do people have to go to the counters at MCO or is there an option of direct to car?) and then the drive to Disney.

I would say the average time for Magical Express is about 1 1/2 hours.

BTW- I was on the Tragical Depress back to the airport from the BC (and probably YC first) yesterday. Our bus was not entirely full, but we went directly from BC to MCO, no other resort stops. I forgot to time it, but I think we arrived at the airport around 9:30. I was at my SW gate at 10:10.

::yes::

I haven't spent a lot of time in the Yacht Club lobby. My understanding is that the same aroma, Aloe and Green Clover, is piped into the YC, but it seems to me from others' comments that the smell is not as pronounced at the YC.

:goodvibes

If we wind up renting a car from MCO I'll let you know how we get on! Might not be able to comment on the direct drive though, as if we have a car we may stop off to grab supplies on the way. And by that, I obviously mean "pop to the mall and visit cheesecake factory first".

I all the stars are aligned you can do it in 45 minutes, but more often it's closer to an hour from wheels down...taking our time and not rushing. If you are sitting in the front of the plane, don't take a potty break, luggage comes out quickly, decide quickly on what car you want, don't get lost,...you could make it in less time. We rent from Alamo, do on line check in, print something(sorry can't think what it is called right now...need more coffee LOL) go right to the garage and pick out your car drive to the exit booth and give them your paper work. Only takes a few minutes. Add lots of time if you go to the counter, add some time if you go to a kiosk. We love the convenience of having a car and not depending on WDW transportation, we even avoid the monorail whenever possible. One trip my DS and his GF took ME and we took the rental car...we were at the resort, checked in and in the room before they arrived.

This is what happens when I don't keep up with this thread! Sorry I missed out on meeting more friends in person. We are looking at April 2017 for a family trip. My nephew is applying to the college program. If he gets in, I hope to make a quick visit while he's there.

Please pop in now and then as you look forward to the 2017 trip.

Help needed, please, Yacht Club experts!

DH and I are booked at AKL for a week starting 1/24, and last night I got an email from them saying there's going to be a refurb during our stay. Since I decided to stay there instead of WL precisely to stay away from reno noise! I'm now looking at the YC for the same dates, which I can get.

My question is: Is there any refurb, construction, etc., going on at the YC during the period 1/24/16 thru 1/31/16? If there is, I won't bother moving. If there isn't, I think this is my 2nd choice, since the GF is outside my planned budget.

Thanks so much! I appreciate your help.

Just wanted to say :welcome:

Let us know if you will be staying here!

:cool1:

We will be staying at the YC 11/10-11/16/16 at Club Level to celebrate a bday (I'm nancy and it's my sis Sandy's bday 11/13!). First timers at Yac and first time CL guests! Woohoo. Great thread btw

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:woohoo:

There is some great info and tips on Page 1, especially Posts 13 and 14, where you will learn about the YC and BC secret exits and how to smuggle a Grey Goose Slushie out of EPCOT.

Wrapping up our last day at BCV, with a 1/2 marathon sandwiched in between. It's been a great stay with a good but humid run for this CT native, a lot of parks, some pool time.....yes 60 degrees in the sun is good for us! Had a chance to meet Teena on Sunday..... Had to break the wedge of well wishers around her, but when push comes to shove and a couple of awkward laps around the lobby I overcame the challenge! There was another meet on Monday, so it was great to visit and to wish her well! For those of you I interrupted.....sorry. Back home to CT tomorrow an back here in October and again next year to run the 1/2 again!

Glad you got to spend some time with Teena! Sorry I missed you.

Are you back at BCV for Oct and/or next Jan?

:goodvibes:

Dee - please add us to the list! August family trip! We will be at the BC CL August 17 - 20 after spending August 13 - 17 at the Poly CL. Darn kids and summer internships, just couldn't make our planned May trip work. So, now we will squeeze in a trip after internships and before DS20 and his Princess go back to college for their senior year.

Thank you,
Rebecca

Will do! Sounds like a wonderful trip, even if I won't be there with my adoptive family.

:banana::banana::banana:

Just back. I posted a review with photos of our room view over here: http://disboards.com/threads/quick-...g-vs-dining-plan-scooter-jan-4-12-16.3475613/

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and reviews. May I add your pictures and comments to the View Thread?

:thumbsup2

We have booked the Beach Club for Christmas Eve and Christmas day and are sooooo excited. It will be our family's 2nd trip to Florida from the UK and our first time at a deluxe resort.
I have enjoyed reading through this thread to learn more about it, only downside is I now don't want to have to wait!

I also read natebenma trip report from 'what happens at the beach club' which made me actually well up at points despite the fact I don't know anyone in it and it also made me think we will probably definitely want longer than 2 nights. Hope we can fit everything we want in.

Looking forward to keeping up with this thread as this year goes on :mickeyjum :dancer:

:welcome:

Thanks for your kind words and for reading my report. I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

I will also be anxiously watching the refurb news as I am in the same boat (or Yacht as it were) as you for the fall.

Question--Do you all think I will be ok sleeping on the day bed, or should I try and make my 24 year old nephew sleep on it? He is quite a bit taller than I am, but I am quite a bit older than he is. Or should I tell him it is the day bed or sharing a bed with his grandpa?

This was recently discussed. I'll try to find the posts. HockeyMomR, who is tall (5 feet 10 inches) was very comfortable on the daybed in our room. While all 5 feet of me had a queen to myself. (All the better for a fashion show)

;)

ETA 1/16/16- from page 353:

What is the length of the daybed? Can an adult sleep on it well enough?

daybed.jpg

I slept in the daybed in August 2014, and it was fine, but I'm every inch of 5 feet tall. Reports from regular-sized adults, including my monkey roommate Rafiki, are that the sleeper is very comfortable.

:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

Big thumbs up to this daybed. I am very tall at 5' 10" and found the bed very comfortable.

This daybed is Rafiki approved.

:)

Thanks for helping out on input on the time to get to the resort using Magical Express vs. car rental.

There are of course lot of factors involved (how full is the ME bus when you arrive/how long of a wait for the bus to leave) to how long you take at the rental counter (if you have to go there) to how quickly does your luggage arrive.

I remembered that on a past trip, a friend took ME and her husband rented a car. I just checked and she said that her DH arrived at the resort a minute or two before she did. I believe they had their luggage sent through to the room instead of having to pick it up at MCO.

Based on these factors, I think the decision to rent a car for the trip should mainly be based on whether you want one for travels during the vacation.

Here's another question for the masses. Are you permitted to use the Resort Airline Checkin to send your bags through to your final airport if you are not taking Magical Express? Not that they can stop you, since you check in your luggage prior to leaving.

:confused3

:goodvibes:

Sorry I missed meeting you too, but there's always another time!
Already booked at BCV for 10/20 - 10/28, so you can add me to the BOG list for those dates.
And I'll be booking 1/4 - 1/12 for the 2017 half marathon on 2/4 for the BCVs, so if you want to pencil
that in, I'm fairly confident I'll get those ressies!
Thanks and I'll see you on the boards!

Natebenma, Happy Planning on your 30th Anniversary Trip next fall! You'll love YC CL. Best wishes for a lovely vacation! :goodvibes

Thanks so much!!! We are so excited! First time at Yacht Club, first Food & Wine, first time being there during the Halloween season.

First time my husband has been to Disney since 2013. I have made 4 trips since then. LOL!

The only thing we know for sure is that we will be dining at La Hacienda one night. Everything else is up in the air.

Yes resort airline checkin is separate from Magical Express. The resort airline checkin booth is staffed with airport workers, it's the same as if you checked in at the airport.

:confused3
Yes, as the airline resort check-in is a separate operation from the Magical Express, a resort guest may check-in for flight, get boarding pass(es), and check luggage, even though not riding the ME to the airport. It's operated by Baggage Airline Guest Services (Bags).

I guess the blackout caused by the magical agency exclusive deal isn't helping either... especially with standard rooms.

There are a lot of places that book blocks of rooms and try to sell them so I'm not thinking the problem is attributable to one source. I'd bet that the Disney Travel company, or who ever is in charge of making sure that all the resorts have the highest possible occupancy rates, sell blocks of rooms to places like some of the more popular online travel agencies. I've always found it odd that in some cases it can be easier to book a room during a certain time period with them as opposed to calling WDW. I'm guessing that WDW has released a certain amount of rooms for certain periods for them to sell.

Then there are those crazy Brits who cross the pond and stay for a month or the stray Aussie or two who paddle for months at a time and stay for a whole season at WDW. Can you imagine if those two groups got together and took over a wing of an All Star's resort or an entire Dolphin or a Swan! The recycling plants would be overwhelmed with Aussie Wine bottles and Rose and Crown would be impenetrable with all the bodies crammed in there. Why the singing alone could be heard clear through to the Animal Kingdom. Then there would be shortages of fish and chips and rationing would have to take place. You would get in line and the CM would ask Fish OR Chip?

I'm also wondering now, if because of the higher demand, if less of that room inventory is going to be released to outside brokers and more rooms are kept in the Disney Travel Company stock.

THEN I'm wondering what happens to the rooms that remain unsold that were allotted to these external travel companies.

~NM, who is doing a LOT of wondering lately

Thanks so much!!! We are so excited! First time at Yacht Club, first Food & Wine, first time being there during the Halloween season.

First time my husband has been to Disney since 2013. I have made 4 trips since then. LOL!

The only thing we know for sure is that we will be dining at La Hacienda one night. Everything else is up in the air.

:banana::banana::banana:

Somehow I missed that you have another trip in the works (despite the ticker lol). So exciting :yay:
Love the YC, Love Club level, Love food and wine (though I've never been to the festival) and add in Halloween /fall decorations and I'm beyond excited for you both :rainbow:

Thanks!

I just booked the trip on Monday morning, so it is BRAND NEW!!! And, you really didn't miss the ticker because I only posted it yesterday afternoon. We are really excited. :cool1::cool1:

We haven't told Ben yet... Nate will be away at college and Ben really wants to go to Food & Wine, but 1) it is an anniversary trip and 2) Ben will not want to miss a week of school.

:goodvibes
