My niece had a reservation for 11/13 - 11/15 at CSR for $216/nt. Last week she received a call from Disney informing her that the room would be unavailable for her dates due to construction/renovation. She was offered a room at the Polynesian for $484/nt. That's an additional $268/nt!! At the time she was busy with the kids and accepted the offer. Needless to say, once I heard about this, I was rather annoyed. From what I got from her, there is still time to cancel the Polynesian reservation, but according to the person she spoke with, she's be charged a $300 cancelation fee.
My thoughts on this are that if Disney is unable to honor a reservation, then they are obligated to find similar accommodations for her at the agreed upon rate. Calling these kids up a month before their trip and saying, "oh, by the way, you'll need another $900 for you stay" is totally unacceptable and not in line with the many positive experiences the me and my family have had with them.
At this point, I'm asking for advice on how to rectify this situation. Should I have her call back and request a credit for the difference? Should she just cancel the reservation and find offsite accommodations? If any of you have had a similar experience, please share how you resolved it. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.
