There was at least one more thing I was going to add to my review and forgot. This can make or break a trip for me, well at least it feels like it at the time.

The dig site pool bar closes early. I am sure there are signs posted every where but I missed 'em. One night, about mid way into our trip, we had a night off and decided to deviate from our usual afternoon swim to a night swim. It was a particularly trying day so I was looking forward to relaxing poolside with a nice drink or two. But when we got there, around 7:30, the pool bar was closed. CLOSED. I should apologize to everyone at the pool, in the Cabanas section and the Ranchos section for my loud yell of "Noooooooooo". I think I may have actually cried. Fortunately for me, my husband was still in the room watching football so he did not mind (ok maybe a little), bringing me a drink from the Laguna bar on his way.

So be sure and check the schedules of the bars and activities.

First stay at CSR. I'm thinking of asking for Ranchos ( I know it's just a request) It seems like that is the least favored on this board. But, to me it has the most unique theming on the outside and is closest to the pool? Also, as far as not being close to El Centro... We will go to Pepper Market on our first night but after MK and will be in our car. I'm not really expecting to go back to the main area after that. We will have breakfast items in our room. None of us our soda drinkers so doubt we will use our mugs too much.

Any vets seeing a problem with my line of reasoning. We will go to the pool one day if it is warm enough. Also I see people say it is a 10 minute walk from Ranchos to El Centro. Is it a scenic walk? If so, that isn't bad at all.

It's our first stay too and we are requesting Ranchos. I was outvoted 4-1, with everyone liking the looks of Ranchos the best. (I like the looks of Casitas.) None of us like the look of Cabanas, probably because it looks like a beach vacation and we live in a beach town.
I told DH about the location and he reasons that we will not need to go the El Centro much. Really, just on our first day and maybe our resort day. We will have the refillable mugs to use on our mid-day breaks, but mid-day we can fill them at the pool.
Also, I don't have any little ones on this trip and nobody with mobility issues. That can make a big difference.

This is exactly why I pulled my request for Cabanas. I look at buildings like that every day. Lol.
We live in SW FL.
;)

Speaking of refilling mugs at the pool and closures...

Can I use the pool refill station 24/7?
Im kind of a night owl.

It's supposed to close at 8pm.

Yeah, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But, we really like that feeling of looking out our window and feeling like we've been transported to a new place. :goodvibes

When I was traveling with toddlers or when I traveled with grandparents, we really felt that room location was important wherever we stayed. (and we booked accordingly) Now, we seem to value peaceful more than anything else.

Sorry if this has already been covered -- can't find it anywhere... We don't do caffeine or soft drinks as a rule. Are there herbal teas? What else can go into our refillable mugs?

You can get iced tea and water.

There's light lemonade available as well.

However, the mugs are restricted to coffee, iced tea, and fountain drinks.

thanks to those who responded. CM tells me my non caffeinated choices other than soft drinks are lemonade, hot chocolate, herbal teas -- in case anyone else wants to know :)

IMHO no. It's a desk with one chair. There's no way two people can sit at the desk comfortably to eat. One person would be on an ottoman sitting much lower. This is one of the drawbacks of CSR. Others will tell you it's no problem but I'm a realist.

I agree completely! We've stayed at CSR several times and really enjoyed it, but the new room layout w/o the table & chairs is a big drawback for us.

I put this on my comment card as a problem in April. They obviously didn't care. Ugh.

They have pool side movies at night and are missing serious refreshment income by not serving later.

I'm really surprised that the bar isn't open during poolside movies, I just assumed it would be.

I didn't know I was confused about this until someone posted they had problems...

Checking in procedures. At a condo/resort you would usually check in get your key, drive and find your condo, be responsible to get your own luggage cart and deal with your own luggage. Usually at a hotel someone is curbside, puts your luggage on a cart and takes it to your room and you tip them.

It seems like from what I've read CSR kind of has a hybrid thing going on. Since I want to stay at Ranchos (who knows, but that is the plan) I will be a long way from check in right? Seems like I would have to go check in but if they take the bags at curbside how do they get them all the way to my room?? And if they take it in a golf cart do you then drive your car to where you are staying???

I would just wing this but there is more to my question so I'm trying to wrap my mind around it. We will be getting there at noon. Probably won't be able to get into our room but I do want to check in so I can use my magic bands to get into MK before 3 parade. Will they take my luggage at noon and take it to my room when it is ready or just hold it until we get back?? Don't really want to leave my luggage in my car all day.

The bar has to close 1 hour before lifeguards leave for safety reasons.

Legal reasons not really safety
They could still be open and just serve soda/snacks. You think they would during the movies for sure

It is a hybrid for two reasons.
1. A lot of guests arrive without a car, on ME. So they provide a service to get your bags to and from the check in.

2. A lot of guests arrive before their rooms are ready. So they provide luggage storage. If you have your luggage stored they will keep it until you return to your room and call for it.

If you are lucky enough to have your room ready when you arrive then you can just drive around to your resort building and unload yourself. This is why we don't park in the porte cochere when we arrive. There is designated parking near the entrance for guests who are registering. We park there, check in, and then pull around to the luggage services area if we need storage. Otherwise we just drive around to our room. HTH

Thank you!!! You answered my questions very well. I will copy and paste this in my info so I don't forget.
