DISNEY'S CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information Thread!

Hi :) I just wanted to post some information our wedding coordinator sent us. I had emailed her asking about the construction and if she had heard any updates regarding the closing of the CS or the F&F Center. This was her reply:

I have not heard anything more on the Contemporary construction other than the resort is sending letters to guest by month. Last month they sent the letters to May guests so you should receive something next month. I will check again the first of May as well.

Has anyone traveling in May received a letter from them?? Maybe this is just for wedding/group reservations??

This was info not given to me from anyone at the Contemporary. It is just rumors I have read on Disboards and the other part is logical information of what will happen with the Concourse Steakhouse and the Food & Fun Center.

Anyway the rumors going around is the Concourse Steakhouse and Food & Fun Center will be closing this coming fall. Once that happens the Concourse Steakhouse will move to where the Food & Fun Center is and change their name to the Waive and serve an Asian themed menu. So that means the Food & Fun Center will move to where the Concourse Steakhouse use to be and change their name to Chef Mickey's Express. That is going to happen since the arcade is moving to the Fantasia store and since it closed a back in January that only makes this rumor solid, because where else could the Concourse Steakhouse move to? Also since there is no more room on the 4th floor, where else could the Food & Fun Center move to but the Concourse Steakhouse location.

Hi all!
We just booked our vacation for 9/20 - 9/27/07 at the Contemporary.

We are so excited - never thought we'd be able to afford a Deluxe, but with the Free Dining Plan we decided to squeeze the budget (until it cried). We were only able to stretch our funds so far so we are booked in a Standard Garden Room (which was the very cheapest option) so we'll probably be overlooking the parking lot and/or garbage cans :rotfl:but that's okay, we're not big on the whole view thing anyway. We're just happy to be staying at a monorail resort. We're bringing my mom, who has some mobility issues (and who, incidentally, has never been to WDW at all), so I think the monorail is going to be a great feature for us.

The only room request we made was for non-smoking. Is there any particular standard room location that is any better than the others or are they all pretty much the same thing. Someone told my DH we should ask for Ground Floor because you get a little patio area but I told him that was probably only for the Garden View rooms, which cost more - is that the case?

I know we can take the monorail to MK and Epcot but how is the bus service to AK and MGM? Are they very crowded? Does CR share with any other resorts? How long does it usually take to get to the parks?

Thanks for all the great info in this thread! I don't know what I'd do without the DIS to help me plan (makes me look so smart to my DH and my mom ;)).

I am 99.9% sure that all rooms in the South Garden Wing are all non smoking, so hopefully someone can confirm that for you.

Bus service to MGM and AK is not that bad and I have found the buses are not crowded where it gets to be standing room only. As for sharing sometimes in the mornings depending on which park you are going to they share with the Polynesian or the Wilderness Lodge. However I can tell you 100% that when leaving the parks the the Contemporary always shares with the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. Finally the best thing is the Contemporary is the 1st stop along the bus route.

We will be at the CR Tower MK View Sept 22-29. Same week, same view 2 years in a row! Can't wait!

We are going to be there starting May 19th. No letter in the mail for me, or my parents. We're under separate reservations. Hmmm...

Do they still have a small movie theater in the back of the Food & Fun Center? I remember seeing Disney movies there when I was a kid. If the theater still exists, I wonder how that would be effected by the rumored move.

They have a TV and couches set up just by the entrance of the Food & Fun Center that plays old Disney cartoon shows all day.

In the back of the Food & Fun Center is another TV that is always on Toon Disney. I am sure it could be changed to another channel, although I have never seen anyone try to change the channel.

Hello CR fans!

We switched this morning from AKL to CR w/free DDP. This will be out first stay in a monorail resort and we're really excited!

Way to go. Your going to love the Contemporary and you will not regret your decision to switch from the Animal Kingdom Lodge. So have fun when you are there. :thumbsup2

I know the theater you're talking about -- it's been gone for years.

We are staying at the CR 5/20-5/24 in a wing room. Any chance of paying to upgrade to the tower at check-in? I was only able to get a wing room for the duration of my visit.

If there is a room in the Tower on the Magic Kingdom or Bay Lake side and your willing to pay for it, I am sure it would not be a problem. Have you also been calling or checking online to see if a Tower room with either view has been available so you might not have see when you check in there next month.

I am hoping that they aren't doing construction during Thanksgiving while we are there. We keep waffling between CR and WL, but I love the CR, and DH has never been, so he is going by my judgement.

Please, no construction then!!!

This may or may not happen but the rumours are the Concourse Steakhouse and Food & Fun Center might switch places starting this October, so if that's true who knows when that would be completed. Plus there would also be the moving of the arcade to the Fantasia store, although the store has been closed since January so that process has slowly began.

The only construction that you will notice is the tearing down of the North Garden Wing however because of the huge fence around it you will not see any work going on, unless you wanted to from the windows of the 4th floor or while riding the Monorail. However since that is taking place outside it will not and should not effect anyones stay in the Tower or South Garden Wing.

Thanks for the response. My actual dates going are 5/19-5/23. I have been checking online but no luck for all 4 days in getting a tower room. Hopefully, there will be one when I check in.

Do you think the arcade will be closed in May for the move?

I'm just starting to learn about the CR since we were able to get free dining (even if it means giving up on WL). How are the rooms/beds? There will be 4 of us (2 teen boys, 2 adults). I think I've read that the rooms are bigger than the ones at WL, so that will be a bonus. Do all 4 person rooms have 2 queens and a daybed? If yes, would a teen boy fit on the day bed (they both sleep on cots at Scout camp).

Also - I thought I read on another board (so much info pouring into my brain right now that I probably have gotten confused) that there are computers w/ free internet in the rooms? That can't be right....is that just a bonus for Club level rooms?

Please bear with me...I have to reset 4 months of planning....
