SRU ALUM,

While I can't guarantee anything for your wedding  I can tell you that I just got back from the Contemporary and honestly, the construction is not obtrusive at all. You can definately see that things are happening on the concourse and that they are tearing down the North Wing, but honestly, it did not get in the way of anything we did there.

I think there is so much hustle and bustle at the CR that you really wouldn't notice unless things change DRASTICALLY. I think that in general, Disney does a fantastic job of doing things incrementally to reduce the "ick" factor.

JMO, but I hope this puts some of your fears to rest. ;)

The is the response I got from the IPO
RE:Concourse Steakhouse

The Concourse Steak House is going down to be closed, as it is
relocating. HOWEVER, no date has been given to when this is going to
happen. Since you already have a confirmed reservation (in fact two),
it is probably not going to be down at that time. Disney usually does
not allow reservations to be booked, if they even have a hint that a
restaurant is going to go down.

Just to be safe, do you have a backup choice?

Last year when the Contemporary was renovating the rooms on the 14th floor Tower Club, I asked them how far ahead did they plan the renovation so guests could not make reservations up there? A very nice Cast Member from the 12th floor Atrium Club (who no longer works there :sad1:) said it they knew in January 2006 that the 14th floor was going down for renovation in August 2006 which was when I asked this question to them. So if you want to you can use it as an example to the eventual closing of the Concourse Steakhouse.

Help! Currently booked at CR (2 nights Tower, 1 night Garden Wing because Tower not available). Just 2 adults. We will be one of those days at MK, maybe, and probably 1 in Epcot, 1 in AK...some jaunts to DTD maybe, since it is just my older sis and I this trip.

Sis is a neat-freak, and has never been to WDW. I have never stayed at CR or BC.

BC is available, all 3 nights in Standard View.

Is standard view worth it to us, ya think? Or is it terrible, negating the closeness to Epcot + the great pool? Is SAB too crowded, so less fun?

Beth

Thanks! I am sure it won't be that big of a deal, I'm just in that 'I want everything to be perfect because it's our wedding' mindset. Thanks for the reassurance :thumbsup2

Just thought I would post this for fun!! Our room on the 11th floor in September 2006. (Sorry its a little fuzzy...)

Last night I was reading the Birnbaums Disney books, the 2007 one and the 2007 Dining one. Well, Concourse Steakhouse is not listed in either. Do you think this means that they know when it is closing?

I think they knew it would be, but didn't know when. So to be safe, they left it out. The '07 Birnbaum guide came out in early October of '06, which means the info they had was from quite awhile before that to allow for editing/publishing/distribution time. I doubt they would have known the exact closing date back then.

We stayed at the Contemporary from March 17th - 20th and we were supose to stay in a Garden Wind Garden View room. When were arrived at 2:30pm I was informed that we were upgraded to a Tower Bay Lake View Room. And the room was beautiful! Thanks, Contemporary!

CONGRATS! We were upgraded in February from MK view to MK view concierge...I've heard of quite a few upgrades on the boards recently...wonder if it's an "unofficial" part of the "Year of a Million Dreams". They just seem to be happening with a little more frequency than usual.

Hope you enjoyed your trip!:thumbsup2

Wonderful! Hope to hear all your trip details when you have time!

Just got back form CR. 11th floor, MK view, room 4733. Excellent view and location. The north wing was just about gone when we left on March 16th.

The gift shop under the monorail was all boarded up but did not notice a lot of activity behind the wall. Sundrie shop was open and Bay View Gifts was open. There were also gift kiosks and pin kiosks in the main lobby area.

Glad you had a great room!!
Any updated word on the Food and Fun Center or the Concourse Steakhouse?
