We have Garden room booked for Dec 15-26. This will be our first stay at CR. I am a bit nervous because our TA said "are you sure you want to stay at the CR, what about the Poly or GF?" I am nervous now, I hope we made the right choice. I was able to get a garden room for $155 with "the code" and thought we would probably never get this good of a rate at the CR again. We have stayed at the Poly before and really liked it but we like to try a new resort when we go.
Will we be happy in a garden room? Will the restaurants and the shops be open. I know the North wing is being torn down now but I really hope that the concourse itself will be done with the rennovations in Dec.
:confused3

:sad1: :sad2: :sad1: :sad2: We will miss the Concourse Steakhouse. It was a great place for breakfast.

I liked it for Dinner as well and I think I ate there for lunch, but I'm not sure. It was pretty neat to eat and watch the monorail go by. I can see why Disney is moving it though and I heard they're expanding Chef Mickey's into the area where the Concourse steak house was. Chef Mickey's has to be a gold mine for Disney and is always crowded when I was there.

That is because the hot rumor going around is later this year the Concourse Steakhouse is moving the where the Food & Fun Center use to be. They also plan on changing the name to the Waive & serve an Asian theme menu.

I hope Disney doesn't change the menu too much becaue they already have a couple Asian themed places to eat on the monorail line as it is. You have the Kona cafe at the Poly which serves an Asian menu at night and then of course you have the California grill. I hope they just add more to the menu and still leave it a place where you can get a great steak.

WOW...how did you get such a good rate/code? I LOVE to CR resort and if I can get that kind of rate during Christmas time we will be going again this year too!!!

I think you'll be ok. By December I would imagine a lot of the interior work will be close to complete. The north wing demolition/build has been mostly quiet from what guests appear to be saying.

I think the contemporary is the best of the 3 (personal opinion). Plus, by then you may have the new computers/internet in your room that they're trying on the concierge floor that allow you to place room service, etc.

Christmas at CR is a great idea :santa:

With all due respect, I wouldn't call Kona Cafe's menu "Asian" despite a couple of entrees: the cuisine is fairly standard, with Asian accents.

The Contemporary needs restaurants as bustling and modern as its image will allow. Just as the California Grille was at the forefront of fusion cuisine 10 years ago, another restaurant with an innovative menu created by imaginative chefs would really do wonders for updating the resort's image.

I'm the one that needs to worry with my entire wedding party and many of our guests staying there in July  I'm going to be so embarrassed if the place is all torn apart!

From what I have read the computers/internet is in all the other floors in the Tower & South Garden Wing. So you don't need to stay on the Atrium Club or Tower Club to use them.

There's a copy below of the menu that Kona serves at night and it seems to be more than just a few Asian accents and I've ate at Kona many times. Don't get me wrong, Kona serves some good food, but coming from the Midwest (Chicago) a good steak dinner is hard to beat. The Concourse Steak house was a little pricey, but I have had some good meals there. I never recall having a bad meal there, nor was it too exotic. Not everyone is in the mood for Crispy Ahi-Tuna with Shiitake Mushrooms after a day in the parks.:rotfl2:

I understand about updating the resort's image, but you shouldn't alienate a good chunk of your customer base by trying to be too "innovative" or "hip". There's not a lot of food choices if you don't care for Asian cuisine or Buffets and you're at one of the Monorail resorts. Chef Mickey's and Ohana's are neat to eat at, but how many times can you eat there? California Grill, Citricos, and Victoria and Albert's are high end restaurants and not for everyone's taste or budget. If you don't have a car, you're kind of stuck at your resort if it's late and you don't feel like going back into a theme park. At least with the monorail resorts you have some different food options. I hate to see them get even more limited, than they are right now. That's all I was trying to say.

You may be right: we don't know whether this Pan-Asian restaurant (if that's indeed what Disney's building) is a signature restaurant or an all-purpose hotel restaurant like the Grand Floridian Cafe and Kona. The elimination of the Concourse Steakhouse would certainly remove this option.

Well said, disneyfan67 -- you hit the nail on the head.

I also hope they don't change the menu much to the Concourse Steakhouse. Our family loved going there for breakfast (Sticky Mickey's anyone?) it was a fun atmosphere being so close to Chef Mickey's and being able to see the monorail pass by... ahh... gotta love it! Once for lunch we went there and I had the best filet mignon! Mmm yum!

I must say too I'm kinda bummed to see the Fantasia shop closing up, my dd LOVED going there everytime we went past. I also enjoyed browsing Fantasia. :)

But I am excited no less about the growing possibility (or maybe I should say probability?!) of dvc coming in where the north wing was located. Basically that's what dh and I have been waiting on to buy in with dvc. We adore the CR! I just hope they don't end up making something so big that it makes the main tower little. The main tower/A frame is what makes the CR, the Contemporary. :)

Just me and my 2 cents...

Just an FYI:

Called today to make adr's for august and was able to book late august without difficulty for the steakhouse. Also note that we where not able to book gf cafe for lunch, or epcot's japan steakhouse both due to construction. The gf is giving lunch at citrico's instead while they are closed. I asked if the steakhouse was closing, or changing and the cm said she had nothing in the computer.

My thoughts exactly. Coming from the same general region (I was born and raised in Eastern Wisconsin), and being married to a pretty picky eater, the CSH was a god-send on our last trip. We ate supper there three times since we didn't feel like leaving the resort to eat dinner. Now granted, my wife and I both enjoy Asian food so this could be all right. But at the same time, I am a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy and removing the "Steak House" element from this restaurant would really disappoint me.

Not saying anthing bad about the Cast Members who make ADR's for WDW-Dinning, but I don't think they are very much in the loop about the construction process of the Concourse Steakhouse. All they are told to do is make ADR's for guests who call & if someone wants to make one for August when it might be called the Waive, they had no way of knowing. Let me try to use this example. 2 years go there was an airline in Canada called Jet's Go & one day out of the blue they went out of business, cancelling every flight they had & stranding a lot of passengers. The point is the employees who worked at their reservation centre had no idea this was going to happen & the day before they were making reservations like they always did. So the point is the CM's who make your ADR's don't know much about the upcoming movement of the Concourse Steakhouse & changing it to the Waive.

CR resort fan 4 life, yes, i agree. Just thought I would pass on what I was told. Intresting that they where up on the changes at the other 2 resturants (gf & japan) ?

Does anyone have information on the Deluxe rooms? We are debating on if we should get a larger room (4 adults, 2 children) or 2 rooms. If we do stay at CR, we want in the tower.

regarding the closing of concourse, we were told by the hostess on this past saturday that it will be around July..but then when I mentioned asian food, she didn't know about that..so who knows!
regarding the delux rooms, there is no difference as far as how many people you can have..unless you get 2 rooms or go up to a suite, you are only allowed 5 people per room.
