Southern Baptist called for a boycott of Disney in 1997 (films, parks, television network). Didn't work then and won't work now.

Because we have a society ruled by the media and angry ignorant mobs. The media reports are designed to play on peoples' emotions, and a lot of people fall for it hook, line, and sinker. Hear one person tell one side, and accept that as fact. Logic is a dying thing in this country.

What crazy laws? The law says if you feel in immediate danger, whether that danger is real or not, just as long as it is perceived danger, and would be perceived danger by a reasonable person, you have the ability to defend yourself. As long as you don't go around attacking people, you should have nothing to fear from that law.

I totally agree with the above. I pray these bullies will use their power for good instead of hate.

With all that said; the paid protesters and possible boycotters have a right to do so.

If someone comes up to me and starts bullying why should I have to retreat? If everyone runs from a bully all you're doing is showing them that its ok to do so. I possess a concealed carry permit that is good in about 40 states, I am a law abiding citizen and should have the right to defend myself and my family if that were to ever occur. I shouldn't have to run from a threat if I can stop it and if that ever occurs all I'm going to say is that I won't run, I will use deadly force to eliminate said threat.

Wow...this is right through the stereotypical uprights.

This particular case would never have resulted in a conviction in Florida... As a former resident I had NO doubt about that from the start.

But instead of decrying angry mobs and " media" (which is the problem...but not from the angle you seem to indicate)...I would suggest you look at the statistical data on these types of laws.

I'm not telling you what to think... That's your call. But it should be an informed opinion.

And innocent stockholders across the US...many of whom are retirees that are trying to live off of dividends because the banks sure aren't paying any interest. IF Disney had anything at all to do with the Florida gun laws or the criminal court system, I could see it. But Disney has nothing to do with the Florida criminal justice system.

It would be nice if the people wanting to boycott Florida would just boycott everything. Less traffic, fewer crowds, more seating in restaurants, movie theaters not so crowded. Sounds pretty nice!

DizCaptain, I was thinking the same thing. Just told my DH "maybe I should check on the ADR's to see if something opened up". So unnecessary! What in the world does Disney have to do with it?

I agree! I'm a concealed permit holder too. If you make it so people must run then you legalize bullying. If you can simply walk away and end the issue than do it, but it isn't always that easy! I will defend my family with my life, as I have done for countless people in this country!!! I served my country and as firefighter I have defended life , but if anyone puts my life or my families life in danger I will protect them. Lets not forget that the people defending them selfs are the victims NOT the attacker !

No, Disney doesn't have anything to do with the court system

But they would make a powerfully ally for people who think the laws should be changed. Disney has huge influence on the FL legislature and could be effective if Disney choose to put pressure on Florida to change laws because their business had been hurt.

Having aid that, I doubt Disney is going to take a stand here, but I'm sure that is the rationale of the boycotters.
I am not a resident of Florida so feel no reason to partake in protests asking them to change their state laws. I have my hands full keeping tab on my own state government.

IMO, it's stupid to boycott over a jury verdict but it's their right. I wonder if Trayvon Martin's parents will move out of Florida? They can't boycott if they live there.

You mean retreat from a situation where some youth who could have easily gone home and avoided any situation decides to come back to me and punch me in the nose because he thinks he's a tough guy gangster??
