Disney World Boycott?

This is about getting the SYG over turned not changing the verdict. George Zimmerman got away with pursue and killing a child because of a law on the books in Florida. Hurting a major tax payer in Florida would cause that tax payer to put pressure on the Florida government to change the law. How do you think has control over our government? It isn't the voters, it is the corporations and wealthy people who can buy their politicians.

I have considered canceling my trip. I don't know how safe I feel having my child in a state that allows a grown man to pursue and kill a child. We have decided not to cancel our trip at this point but I have thought long and hard about it. A child was murdered and the murder was protected by a law, that isn't something that sits well with me. That is something that scares me and makes me very sad.

SYG was not a component of the defense offered by Zimmerman. It was a self defense claim not predicated on SYG.

You missed the part where Zimmerman followed and perused Trayvon.

GZ was already out of the car when the dispatcher said we don't need you to do that. He was on the way back to his truck when TM left the porch of the house where he was staying after his mther put him out of her house.

The child was beating the man but do what you have to do.
30+ states have some form of SYG, Castle Doctrine, etc. All states have a self defense law.

SYG was not a component of the defense offered by Zimmerman. It was a self defense claim not predicated on SYG.

Something Zimmerman detractors conveniently forget.

Oh please-if you are THAT concerned-cancel your trip.

When a court decision goes their way then "we must honor the process" and "the jury has decided". But let the decision go wrong for them and "The laws must be changed" (never mind of course that the law in question wasn't even part of the equation) or "The people of [insert city/state here] prove that America is racist". Hope they do boycott all 30+ states, then I won't have to worry about coming across them, just in case stupid is contagious.

All I can say is OMG! I'm not sure where you live, but Florida certainly isn't any worse than Illinois, Michigan, NY, California or most of the other States or big cities. ( You might want to check stats for Chicago, Detroit, LA to name a few.) Many, many States have 'stand your ground' laws and I'm sure if you felt threatened and/or received a broken nose / fractured skull you would do whatever you could to protect yourself or your child or spouse and maybe even a neighbor. You are more than 'allowed' to defend yourself when attacked. It is your absolute right. If you don't defend yourself than you deserve what you get. Ever hear of "survival of the fittest"? If WDW is too scary, stay home. Remember if someone breaks in there, you might just have to stand your ground and defend your life, limb or property.

Somehow I have the feeling that if any of the naysayers are faced with dying or defending themselves or their loved ones and had to use lethal force, they'd choose lethal force. If I or one of my loved ones face death and I have a weapon, I'll use it. Better them than me or mine

I think you meant to say that Zimmerman followed someone that he thought fit the description of people who were breaking into houses and when Trayvon realized he was being followed he attacked Zimmerman. When Zimmerman was getting his head beaten against the ground, he felt his life was in danger and defended it. Those are the facts. He didnt pursue and kill a child. Look up trayvons texts about buying and selling guns and drugs and then tell me he was just a child.

To pursue by definition means you want to catch something. To follow means you want to see where something is going. Zimmerman followed did not pursue. The main stream media got their verbs wrong. The tea and skittles are used in manufacturing a pcp type of drug cslled lean which autopsy showed effects of being used. 17 year olds can join the military, are charged as an adult. They are adult enough for that. But for some reason there is an insistence to call this person a child.

Amen to that! :thumbsup2

clearly you did not follow the case if you believe this has anything to do with what occurred in Florida.

i shouldn't have opened this thread but i did and now i am going to close it and not open it again. makes me sad to see so much hate.

there is a problem when an armed man pursues (and that is what occurred...zimmerman was not going to let martin `get away`) a 17 year old kid and the kid ends up dead. i am a lawyer in georgia who is not particularly familiar with fl law. i do however know enough about law in general to be concerned if zimmermans behavior was what any florida law was designed to protect. do other states have laws that would allow the same? yes.

in addition, this case had nothing to do with stand your ground except as it could have applied to Martin. if i thought boycotting Disney would do a bit of good i would do it in a second.

i would also suggest a lot of you in this thread do more to get informed before taking such strong positions.

this is a great organization for anyone who wants to get involved with commonsense gun law reform

It had everything to do with the case. Zimmerman thought he was going to die so he used lethal force.
He was on the way back to his truck when Martin left the house where he was living to go back up the sidewalk and confront Zimmerman.
I followed the case closely since March of 2012. The verdict may not have been what people liked but the jury could not find evidence to convict cause there wasn't any. The prosecution used emotion because they did not have any facts they could use to back their case.

these are disputed facts, which you would know if you followed the case closely. if Zimmerman had a reasonable fear that his life was in danger he had the right to protect himself as necessary. if his reasonable fear were a given then the statement you posted would be relevant.

however the argument being made by the `naysayers` as you call us is not that GIVEN his reasonable fear he should not have been entitled to deadly force. the argument is that GIVEN facts that we do know to be true his position and statements don't make sense and we think he is lying. therefore we do not believe he meets what is necessary for deadly force to be self defense.

that being the case...again....your comment has nothing to do with this case. i certainly believe i would use deadly force to protect my family if necessary.

The jury spoke. Dr. Vincent Di Maio gave evidence that the shooting happened the way GZ said it did.
Good, I would hope anyone would use any force necessary to defend themselves or their loved ones.

This is not the place to rehash the Zimmerman trial. Please comment on the topic of the thread or it will need to be closed.

Thanks.

:coffee: and didn't there used to be a smiley of a little popcorn eater guy?? This is entertaining. Thanks
