Disney World Boycott?

Wait.... Didn't the State of Florida bring charges against Zimmerman? Wouldn't that be why he was in court..... so we are basically going to boycott the state that tried to do the "right" thing, but by following due process was unsuccessful?? That makes a lot of sense......:confused3

Florida did their job, the jury did their job, but for some people that is not good enough. He was found not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, but there are some who do not believe the trial ended right. So someone has to be punished and everyone in the state must be held accountable.

I don't care what your opinion on the verdict is. If you're going to boycott an entire state and/or Disney because of an isolated incident that has nothing to do with either, really...I don't understand your logic.

I'm moving to Florida for college (mostly because I'm pursing a career with Disney). I've visited both my school, which is in the Orlando area, and my aunt in the Tampa area. I loved it all. While the legal decision to uphold a particular law that could cause many people problems in the future does intimidate me, especially as a young person, I love the climate and the area too much to change my plans. It sucks hearing people insult the entire state left and right just because of one little event.

More Disney for us, I suppose, although I doubt the people boycotting amount to many.

It is a beautiful state. Beaches, rolling hills, swamps, beautiful forests, great vistas for visual enjoyment. Anyone who decides to boycott Florida is punishing the innocent residents over things out of their control.

Looks like JJ was shaking down Florida Tourism, but didn't get any $$$.

Maybe Pop Warner will boycott.

It maybe interesting to note.........not one poster has come on and said they are supporting the boycott, which to me means this is all nonsense and was never a real effort!

I was just going to say that. In my neck of the woods, people are protesting the vedict. Why? Because they have nothing better to do. I live in the SF area, where being a protester is a career choice. More power to 'em. Just stay the hell out of my way.

While I think boycotting an entire state is completely stupid and will accomplish nothing, if it DID happen to impact Florida's economy, it would hurt the people who live there much worse than it would anything else. And trying to disrupt and hurt other people lives to further your own agenda is absurd.

I always find it funny that people want to judge court trials like American Idol, but that same kind of thinking decades ago is what caused all the discrimination that the world used to be riddled with.

On a less political note, I hope they specifically target the first week of december.

A lot of people (including the horrible media these days) is forgetting the stand your ground law (that many people are protesting and boycotting for), wasn't even used as a defense in this case at all.... so again, none of this makes sense

Stand your ground law is the reason police waited months before arresting Zimmerman. The jury instructions included information regarding stand your ground as a defense and it played a role in their decision to acquit.

A lot of people believe the media hype and don't realize stand your ground played a role in this case.

Not really interesting. This is an Disney fan site. I'd be shocked if a single poster gave a single thought to cancelling a trip or delaying a planned trip.

If the boycott is going to have an impact, I doubt it will, it will be companies and organizations deciding to move their conventions and meetings to other states not individuals.

That's exactly what caused Arizona to make Martin Luther King's birthday a holiday. Too many conventions were taking their business elsewhere.

Again I don't see that happening here but posters who are thinking in terms of famlies cancelling their plans are missing the big picture of what is being called for.

Has anyone else heard of people cancelling reservations or calling to complain to Disney because of the recent Florida boycott? Due to the Zimmerman verdict.

People trying to get a law overturned via complaints to Disney.

I recently read an article about people boycotting orange juice from Florida too.

OK, that is just so bizarre. People think that boycotting things Florida (leave alone Disney) will even be noticeable to anybody? Complaining to Disney about it? Talk about futile.

I believe each of you should do this and spread the word to all of your friends to not go to Disney world this Christmas. And if you Can not change your plans for Christmas, at least boycott toy story each morning so I can try for a new high score

Sounds good. I would like the parks to ourselves!!! LOL

Hopefully they are all boycotting in late August so I can avoid the lines and craziness.:thumbsup2

This is how our country works now. Maybe they should try an "occupy the courthouse" model. It seemed to work last time right?......No.....Ok , well then forget it.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Am I the only one that isn't ticked off about that case? Everyone thinks they know what happened when in reality there was only one witness and he's telling one side. How can we start boycotting and picketing when we don't really know. It was a tragic event and the loss of life is very sad no matter the situation (prayers to the Martin family, no parent should ever have to deal with the loss of a child). I just have a hard time taking a hard stance either way with limited information. From what I did learn, FL has some crazy laws.

It was actually Jesse Jackson who called for the boycott of the state of Florida this week, calling it an "apartheid state". The man has gone off the deep end..

Apparently he does not realize that the state has a very diverse popluation who would all suffer if people took him seriously and further damaged the already downed economy.

I cannot believe any would seriously cancel their vacation plans because a politician suggested it.

The state prosecuted, the jury has spoken, time to move on.

:happytv::laughing::rotfl:
Hope they boycott August 20 -29 when we are there, so the lines will be shorter !!! :yay::lmao::thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Because we have a society ruled by the media and angry ignorant mobs. The media reports are designed to play on peoples' emotions, and a lot of people fall for it hook, line, and sinker. Hear one person tell one side, and accept that as fact. Logic is a dying thing in this country.

What crazy laws? The law says if you feel in immediate danger, whether that danger is real or not, just as long as it is perceived danger, and would be perceived danger by a reasonable person, you have the ability to defend yourself. As long as you don't go around attacking people, you should have nothing to fear from that law.

boycotting Florida makes NO sense whatsoever in relation to the Zimmerman trial... first off, the case was handled in a court of law and a panel of jurors... it just so happens the courthouse was in Florida. Florida tried to throw everything they could at him but there just wasn't enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt whether we like the outcome or not... the justice system did what it was supposed to do. I didn't like the verdict in the Casey Anthony or OJ trial either, but the court system did was it was designed to do... if you can't prove it beyond a reasonable doubt...it's over.

if they want to boycott Florida and stop coming to Disney let 'em... shorter lines for us lol

YES. Exactly. well put. Thank you. I hope people boycott during Food and Wine! Make for a much less crowded race and more food to binge on afterwards.

Ill report back as to the devastation and panic that no one but us will be there will cause!

Be heard!!!
