Disney Removes the Ability to Leave Reviews on FB?

Have any of you seen the new TV ad they just released about MB's & FP+ being available "at select Disney resorts" and inviting us to come try them out "during the testing stage"?!

Sure seems like a B.S. tactic to try and reach a less-informed general audience to come try out this wonderful new system they are "testing". It was hard not to laugh (and cry) at the TV.

While I really want to return to Disney again this fall, I've started looking into alternate vacations instead. After only spending our vacations at Disney since 2006 (multiple trips) I realized I'm longing for the OLD Disney, not the awful lines and lousy technology. While we did love some aspects of the new system on our last trip, I feel like Disney's atmosphere has changed and not for the better. This makes me very sad.

They are going after their regulars in this manner too. I got an E-mail last week telling me they were "testing" FastPass+ "a super new way to make the most of your vacation" It states "we know you know Disney. But you've never known it like this" and invites me be to be part of the "test" of the new Fastpass+ when I stay at "select" WDW resort hotels. Really- because if they knew I know Disney, then they should also know I have already been a part of their "test". Been there done that...which is why for the first time since 2008 we don't have a trip booked for this year.

Well said, and completely agree! I'm starting to get excited about all the other possibilities for our vacation dollars this year. After doing some research, it looks like we can have a really nice vacation with an ocean view for a LOT less money than our Value level Disney trip would cost. :thumbsup2

Sadly, this forum has been overrun with topics that have nothing to do with attractions and strategies. Unless you count "I'm not going to Disney anymore" a strategy. :sad2:

Well, I think people (including myself) were looking to the official Disney FB site as one honest source for recent ratings/reviews of the current situation in the parks. One could extrapolate data from those reviews to form possible park strategies (yes, including a weighing of whether to return to the parks at all) based on the ever-changing FP+ situation.

Now that avenue is apparently gone because Disney has chosen to remove that capability, which, to me, is very telling in and of itself.

So I would certainly argue that this topic is related to park attractions and strategies. If you disagree, I suppose you could have refrained from opening the thread (and commenting twice)? It's not as if the title was confusing or misleading. :confused3

It's their page and they can restrict anything they want. Most businesses do. Many delete comments they consider to be inappropriate with a "this page is family friendly" warning. Especially when a page degenerates into one big argument.

It may not seem right, but there are no shortage of independent Disney forums, many of which have facebook pages, where the subject can be and is being debated ad infinitum.

It is true, there are many businesses fortunate enough to be able to leave them up. Also, many have few enough comments that they can have their admin delete them individually if necessary. This is true with several pages I follow and admin. On any given day, the Disney pages get many thousands of replies. As long as people weren't being rude, just honest, think it was fine. The ones that concerned me (and probably Disney) had nothing to do with honest input.

I'm guessing by "honest input" you mean anything that is only complimentary to Disney?

Huh? :confused3 I have no problem with this thread. I was responding to someone who asked why this thread was posted on this forum. I couldn't care less where a thread is posted. I am free to respond to any thread wherever and whenever I choose to regardless of where it is posted, and I certainly don't need to be questioned about it by anyone. :confused3

That might be the case. However companies use social media in a number of ways. Disney chose to use it as a two way communication with guests. The number 1 rule social media commentators will tell you is to not use a heavy hand in editing posts. It will most likely bite you in the bum otherwise ;)

I suspect Disney PR will be looking for other stories which would have been a better approach IMHO.

There are tens of thousands of places on the internet to leave your negative comments about Disney. Not sure why Disney would want its FaceBook page to be a part of that. IMO, it was making a mistake in doing this before (when times were good). It was very short-sighted.

Companies like Disney want to control their message. You can't do that and have a FaceBook page unless you limit what others can post therein.

You can justify anything if you try hard enough. Regardless my opinion is still valid. I like to visit this board to read about actual strategies or information on the parks. This is a post about Disney's Facebook page.

It's no more a strategy than "just back, I love fp+/mbs".

I agree, but at least some of those threads describe how to make the system work for you. The "I'm not going back threads" don't really do much for anyone seeking advice on how to use the system. There used to be a "Just back" section of the boards. No idea if it is still around, though.

It's one thing to start out a corporate social media page without the ability to post ratings....

It's a completely different matter when that ability is removed due to possibly less-than-flattering ratings.

.

Disney chose to use it as a two way communication with guests.

And now, they have chosen not to. Still their choice, good or bad. If you'd like to see it as a way to squelch criticism, it is likely that. It is probably also a way to keep a handle on the page staying "friendly" without having to devote staff to that full-time.

They can stop whatever they want on their own page but they can't shut down someone else's. Yet.

Ok. I assumed when you said "sadly, this forum has been overrun with topics that have nothing to do with attractions and strategies" that you meant that you were sad because you felt this topic has nothing to do with attractions and strategies. I guess I was wrong to assume that? I'm confused, lol.

In any event, of course you can respond to any thread you want, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I was just under the assumption that you were upset because you felt this thread didn't belong here, and I was offering a solution to avoid becoming upset by allegedly misplaced threads, lol. Honestly, no offense meant.

I just "unliked" Disney World on my facebook page. I didn't notice a HUGE amount of negativity, but several one stars over the course of five days or so. I would say the five stars and one stars were almost even with a bit more weight on the five star side. (so maybe 60/40)

I do believe it's very telling that comments are disabled. But that's just my opinion.

I don't believe for one second Disney thinks there is anything negative about FP+, hence the reason to stop allowing negative FB comments.
