Disney Removes the Ability to Leave Reviews on FB?

Ok. I assumed when you said "sadly, this forum has been overrun with topics that have nothing to do with attractions and strategies" that you meant that you were sad because you felt this topic has nothing to do with attractions and strategies. I guess I was wrong to assume that? I'm confused, lol.

In any event, of course you can respond to any thread you want, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I was just under the assumption that you were upset because you felt this thread didn't belong here, and I was offering a solution to avoid becoming upset by allegedly misplaced threads, lol. Honestly, no offense meant.

Threads on an internet forum do not upset me in the slightest. Not even a blip on my radar. I do feel there was a more appropriate forum for the thread, but that is up to the mods to decided, not me.

Anyway, back to my original post in the thread, some of those negative reviews were downright hateful with foul language. My guess is Disney thought their best course of action was to remove the ability for the posts because they simply could not keep up with removing the foul language. It is quite sad that grown adults cannot express their feelings without using inappropriate words. I can't blame them for pulling the option. I follow pages that don't allow wall posts, only comments on stories. It isn't uncommon, and with as many reviews as they get on a daily basis, it would just be impossible to remove the inappropriate comments in a timely manner.

I'm guessing by "honest input" you mean anything that is only complimentary to Disney?

Not at all. Was speaking more as an administrator on another business page. When you are doing a "family" page and there are comments filled with four letter words, those are hardly helpful to either the business, or the people looking for information.:)

Yes of course they can.
Just as they can expect folks will discuss their reason for doing so :)

They knew that people would notice, but they probably also know that the only people who would care (right now) are the people who are ranting. They don't owe those people a public forum from which to attack Disney.

to add an honest opinion to the topic of this thread Disney also has to be careful with comments from the standpoint of it's image. Not the image of everyone loving Disney but if someone were to say something off the cuff or swear they most likely don't want to be associated with that if someone (a child or young adult) were to follow them and be reading comments.

It could just be another way to censor profane comments.

It sounds like Disney should have never started a Facebook page.

It's their page and they can restrict anything they want. Most businesses do. Many delete comments they consider to be inappropriate with a "this page is family friendly" warning. Especially when a page degenerates into one big argument.

It may not seem right, but there are no shortage of independent Disney forums, many of which have facebook pages, where the subject can be and is being debated ad infinitum.

Of course they can. And it's also my right to be wary of a company that allows ratings/reviews to be left on their page for *years* while those reviews were mainly positive (free marketing, BTW) and then immediately disables that capability when the reviews turn negative.

It would be like a restaurant allowing glowing reviews to be posted on their site since its inception, but then when the menu changes or a new chef is hired and the ratings/reviews subsequently tank, stops allowing people to post reviews. I'd be more than a little hesitant to return to that restaurant in that situation. It seems shady and dishonest...like the business is trying to hide something from the customer.

I agree that there is a *big* difference between "inappropriate" (not family friendly) comments and honest negative reviews. I have been checking the FB site for about a month now to look at the recent ratings/reviews, and while I did read many reviews by people expressing anger/dissatisfaction/unhappiness over their recent trips and FP+ changes/crowds/lines, I don't ever remember reading foul language or anything "inappropriate." (Maybe I just missed it every time I checked? :confused3) In any event, just because Disney doesn't happen to agree with negative reviews certainly doesn't make them "inappropriate."

Quite frankly, it seems disingenuous to me to cash in on positive free marketing for years only to start censoring your site the moment consumers start expressing legitimate concerns.

You can think whatever you want of them for doing so, but they have the right to censor their own site.

If you read the Disney Parks Blog at all, you have seen that they remove almost any comment they think is intended to challenge or offer strong criticism.

I didn't say I agree with them doing it. Just that I understand there are reasons why they'd do so besides just removing all negative commentary (although they can do that too, if they want). Many people are VERY upset about these changes and they tend to post rants that go beyond mere criticism.

You're correct, which is why I don't bother with the blog anymore.

They do have the right to censor their site and we have a right to call them on it, though I know they don't give a flying fig what visitors think.

Disney parks, for more than 50 years, have been the Gold Standard for this principle: make them so happy they want to come back over and over...and we won't have to spend a dime attracting them.

Until now.
And, some of us predicted a while back, that Iger & company would tarnishthe brand.
"Everyone else does it" is never an excuse, IMHO.

Sadly, Disney has lowered their standards. How long until they're just another amusement park?

Just comment in a picture thread and ask them why they removed their Rating/Review portion of the board. Let's see how long it takes them to delete your post.

But make sure to use lots of sugary pixie dust when you reply.;)

Someone did and it is still there, about three hours later. I'm not telling you which one, though. I'm not doing their work for them.

So will all of you complaining about this stop going to WDW?

So will all of you complaining about this stop going to WDW?

Yep. We're making our annual October trip but instead of making it 70/30 WDW/US, we are staying the whole trip at US and taking one day to go to the food and wine festival at Epcot. I'm sorry, but Disney is no longer worth it for our family.

So will all of you complaining about this stop going to WDW?

I can only vouch for us, but we are done for at least 5 years at WDW. We will still visit Universal/SeaWorld/Busch Gardens on our many trips to FL but won't give WDW the time of day.

I just wish I could tell them on their Facebook page. ;)
