Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

I think it looks cool but I hope this doesn't come to AK. I don't think this fits the theming and vibe of AK at all.
That's why I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Theming and vibe of a park hasn't mattered in a long time. Epcot is a perfect example.

Some people will be too big to go on certain rides. It's a shame but it's the way it is, just as some people are too short, or get too much motion sickness, or are pregnant, or have a condition that makes certain rides a no-no.

I often find it odd that people look at height restrictions without question as part of the safety deal, but when it comes to size and/or weight restricting access it's treated as a big deal and a sense of entitlement starts to creep in: 'well they should have just designed the ride so big people like me/my husband/my auntie Joanne can go on it too!'.

Disney still tends to do best with rides that fit most people, compared to amusement parks like Cedar Point. It just stands out at Disney when a new ride has more restricted ride requirements since it rarely occurs, where at other parks it's the norm.

Brutal news about Tron. This is partly what previews are for, and I think eventually we will see more of the lap bar cars being added. May not be right away, as I'm sure it will take a while, but if it's really such an issue, I think it is inevitable.

Agreed. Milenium Force at Cedar Point is a great example. That ride does not fit larger/taller/bigger guests with good reason - the first drop is super tall and my non-engineer brain has to believe it's a safety issue.

Tron appears to be much more a thrill ride than anything else at Magic Kingdom and the Orlando parks. I have a brother who's 6'5" and a friend who is 6'7", and both have experienced not being able to ride things due to height. Thrill rides are engineered for a specific range of body sizes, and if you fall outside that bell curve, it's likely not safe for you to ride.

Good Morning!

I'm curious about something and thought I'd see what you guys have experienced recently. When we were in the parks back in Sept and Dec, we experienced some (but not all) shops no longer had the regular plastic bags and you had to purchase a reusable shopping bag if you needed something to carry your purchases in. I know this has been discussed a ton on here and other forums, however we were just back at WDW from 1/20 - 1/29 and not once did this happen. We were often asked if we wanted a bag, but if we said yes they just gave us a regular plastic one. Not once were we asked if we wanted to purchase the other bags.

Was this just a fluke or is Disney quietly getting away from the whole "no more plastic bag" thing?

There might have been a supply issue on your earlier trip.

I actually wondered if it was a supply issue with the reusable bags on this trip. I wished I had paid more attention so see if they even had the reusable bags on display for sale. It didn't really hit me until we were packing up to leave and saw all the different plastic bags we'd accumulated.

Yeah, my understanding is that while they encourage the reusable bags and all, they still ahve plastic and leave it to the customer to decide. Personally, I really like those reusable bags and often toss one on just to have, especially since they are reasonably priced.

New Storyline Details Revealed for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
At a young age, Tiana developed a deep passion for cooking, and began to dream of one day owning her own business. Her father, James, taught her that good food brings folks together. One of the most exciting parts of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is that we’re going to see where Tiana’s life has taken her following the success of Tiana’s Palace, a restaurant she had dreamed of owning and worked so hard to make come true.

Walt Disney Imagineering is creating an original, next chapter story for Tiana. Within the attraction queue, guests will discover that she continues to grow her business with Tiana’s Foods – an employee-owned cooperative. Combining her talents with those of the local community, Tiana has transformed an aging salt mine and built a beloved brand.

The endeavor began when Tiana purchased the salt mine and the area surrounding the large salt dome it operated from. With the help of her mother Eudora, Naveen, Louis and fellow owners of the cooperative, Tiana revived the old salt mine and the surrounding land, growing a wide array of vegetables, herbs and spices for her recipes.

This multi-faceted enterprise has turned the aging salt mine into a space that has come alive. Complete with a boutique farm and both a working and teaching kitchen, Tiana’s Foods is where Tiana and her colleagues create all sorts of new products that they are bringing to the world, including a line of original hot sauces.

Tiana wants to give a big thanks to her family and friends and the entire community for all the support they’ve given her by throwing an amazing party during Mardi Gras season. When it turns out there’s been a bit of a mix–up with the party preparations, Tiana invites us to meet her at Tiana’s Foods to help with the missing ingredient for the party.

When we arrive, we may see that Tiana spruced up the company’s facilities with vibrant art from local artists. Food for the party is being prepared and beignets are being loaded into crates for the celebration. All kinds of preparations are underway for the journey into the bayou with Tiana, along with new and familiar friends from the animated film.

Picking up where that story left off, Tiana continues bringing people together with Tiana’s Foods, another treasured meeting place to spend time together and celebrate a diverse community. Tiana is also working with cooperative members to teach gardening and cooking to children of all ages, and inspiring other women to run successful businesses as the brand grows nationwide.

Continue following along with the Disney Parks Blog for updates relating to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as it makes its way to Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort in 2024.
Is the big drop at the end supposed to signify jumping off the mountain to get away from this boring-sounding ride?

Oh, for sure. I have a bunch of reusable bags in my suitcase. I also reuse the plastic bags for wet laundry, and hauling large amounts of ice to soak my feet in on runDisney weekends 😄
