Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

Just to note it here, they are being strict about return times during the Tron Soft Opening and people have been turned away if they arrive too late for their BG (can’t speak to how much leeway you have but probably not much more than what a G+ LL has). That will likely continue during normal operations to avoid overcrowding at night.

EPCOT Forever Rehearsals to Take Place After Park Close on March 22 and 24, 2023

Guests staying at any of the hotels in the EPCOT Resort Area (including Disney's Boardwalk Inn, Disney's Yacht Club, and Disney's Beach Club) should be aware that rehearsals for the EPCOT Forever nighttime spectacular are scheduled to take place after park close on Wednesday, March 22, and Friday, March 24.

These rehearsals are currently expected to begin around 11:45 p.m. (or whenever the park is clear of Guests) until around 12:15 a.m. The rehearsal will include fireworks, lasers, smoke/fog effects, and audio testing.

I so wish that breakfast and lunch (old menu) would return to Beauty & the Beast….

Yes, the breakfast which was over priced as is was so yummy at the same time.
Me too. The quick service lunch allowed people who can’t afford an expensive fixed price menu to enjoy the amazing atmosphere of the castle.

It isn't really cost for us so much as we actually liked the lunch the menu, the dinner menu has no appeal to us.

I am not convinced that they will be that strict when it formally opens. Right now they have a set time to have the queue cleared, which isn't normal. Normally they run the ride till the queue clears, look how many rides have a ton jump in them right at close. We did Mickey Minnie runaway railway near park close during spring break and got in 30 min before close and the wait was 25 mins, right before park close it had jumped to 90 mins.

They need to do better with VQ to enforce times, heck people get called for guardians before the park even opens at times. But with dining reservations and other genie times that the VQ doesn't account for. Plus while some will wait for night, that won't be the majority either especially now that night is so much later and also will overlap with the fireworks.

Teacups??? That's what so many folks were soo disappointed they cancelled? Teacups????? Hope they cancelled it cause they are planning to build something better.
I think it was a budgeting problem (+ Covid) that got this cancelled. That's why the Spaceship Earth refurb and that fireworks dessert party building were cancelled too. Not to mention the Play Pavilion.

It was never going to be anything more than a flat ride or maybe some interactive experience. There’s not enough space there to do much else. It was going to be a C/D type attraction to add to the attraction capacity of the park.

Would it have been disappointing to have a spinner ride, sure, but I’ll take an attraction to add to the overall ride capacity of a park that can hold almost the same amount of people as Magic Kingdom over back to the drawing board.

But you have the ability to rope drop, or get in line at the end of the night, both times we've done that the wait hasn't been bad at all.
We were at HS on Sunday night and RotR wait time was 40 minutes during the last hour or two. Not bad at all, and likely closer to 25 minutes (in which half of that is just walking the queue).

eta- Mil Falcon actually had a longer waittime

It still would have been better than NOTHING, which is what we got.
Honestly… as a huge Poppins fan maybe I prefer the potential of something better at a later date. It is hard to tell exactly what the ride would have been from the concept art. Didn’t look exciting. Looked like tea cups with some art cut outs in the corners. Surely they held back giving it all away but wow, lackluster.

I believe it was to have some animated projections too, which could actually be cool with a spinner, though I might have preferred something with a different mechanical action than a tea-cups clone. There isn't much space in the area to put much else, but it doesn't preclude that another Mary Poppins ride couldn't be made elsewhere.

What kind of attraction could you do tied in with the Step In Time dance? One of the better scenes in that movie, imo.

I think of carousel way before teacup for her! A chim chim cheree based could have been a bice alternative too

And that wouldn't have needed a bigger plot than a spinnet ride. Carousel makes much more sense.
That would make sense if they were planning this around the original movie. All of the concept art associated with this area and the attraction all were tied to Mary Poppins Returns.
