Disney Every Day - Update 10/21 – 1, 2, 3! We’re Leaving for Orlando Tomorrow!

Oh Erin...

I am so sorry that you've had to go through all of this...that's a lot of stress (having divorced parents... I know the stuff that goes on can really take its toll on a person- physically and emotionally... so I hope that you are taking care of yourself and getting what you need as well as the kids... you need to feel well too...:goodvibes)

I think it speaks well of your character that despite your split from your ex you amicably tried to do custody arrangements & even when he was behaving badly you still felt some compassion for him...

...Having said that... your primary concern is your kids and yourself... I'm glad this seems resolved and I hope you and the children can move forward peacefully...

Poor Coy... do you know how many things 13 year olds say that they don't really mean when their upset? How awful for him...

True... Bless her... she has such a sweet heart...

Thanks, Patricia. I am getting better at taking care of myself first so that I can be able to take care of the kids. It is hard to do, though! I always want to give give give! But I have started to recognize when I am spreading myself too thin.

Even though I think my ex is a complete moron sometimes, I do also feel sorry for him sometimes. I was in that courtroom thinking, “If you had just TALKED to me or our kids, you wouldn’t be getting reamed by the judge right now!” I think that the kids and I will be able to put all of this behind us, and I hope that their dad doesn’t say anything negative about the trial when they go to his house this weekend. I want us all to just move on. I feel so bad for Coy. No kid should be put in that position between his parents. He said something out of anger and he has been paying for it since July, and I felt terrible for him. When I got home on Tuesday, I gave him a big hug and I said that it was all over. He asked me, “So no more court? That’s it? We really get to stay with you?” and I could see the relief in his eyes :goodvibes Little miss True is a sweetie pie :cutie:

Erin, you are just so awesome. You are the best Mom and I'm sorry you had to go through this, but so glad it's over! I LOVE the cake! :lovestruc

Thanks, Karen! I’m glad this is over now, too! The cake was awesome. True is wise beyond her years, I tell ya!

What a huge relief to have the custody issue behind you. The summer before Marissa was a Freshman, we had to redo the custody stuff. We had joint with the ex seeing them every other weekend. Lets just say, after the police were involved, Marissa didn't want to see him ever. She was scared to go over there. I got a good lawyer. The ex was served and he just brushed it aside or something. He defaulted. Never answered the summons. So, by default, I got full legal custody of both. Jacob still sees him for one or two weekends each month. Marissa goes to dinner maybe once or twice a month. She still doesn't spend the night there. Maybe once since this happened. I let the kids decide how much time they wanted and since he defaulted, that is what was ordered. Instead of the 6 weeks during summer, he now just gets 2 weeks with Jacob. My ex actually wants his pay garnished. It is the only way he will pay. When he moved from Texas to Oregon, he made me set it up, so I pay $50/year to have the state garnish it. I was married for 6 short years and I just wish young people would realize that the decisions they make will determine their future. We have been divorced for 11 years and he still can be a jerk to me and it does affect the kids.

I am glad that you can breathe easier now and I loved the cake.

Thanks, Shannon! I’m sorry that you had to go through a custody issue too! It sounds like it must have been a pretty traumatic situation for Marissa not to want to spend the night there with her dad anymore. Poor thing! That is unbelievable that your ex didn’t even answered the summons, but I am glad it worked out in the end. I think that it is sad that some parents don’t realize that they are causing their kids to pull away. My kids have occasionally just stayed home instead of going to their dad’s because they know that they will be bored over there since he doesn’t spend much time with them. I don’t get that. If, God forbid, I was the one who had visitation with the kids every other weekend, I would spend every waking second with them because I would know that I wouldn’t get to see them again for two weeks! One day, the kids are going to probably stop visiting their dad altogether. They will be teenagers with social lives, activities and jobs and they won’t have time for him – or me for that matter – so you would think that he would make the most of the time he does have with them, right? Oh well. My ex wanted his pay garnished, too! I guess he knew that he wouldn’t pay child support unless it was coming directly from his check. Back when the child support order was originally entered (2004, I think) he was going around boasting, “I put child support on MYSELF” as if taking financial responsibility for his kids wasn’t something he was supposed to do! :headache: You are so right that decisions that we make when we are young will impact our whole lives. I wouldn’t trade my kids or any of my experiences for anything in the world, but I had my son when I was 26, got married at 27, had True when I was 30, and I was separated and on my way to divorce when I was 31. So, I have often said to my sisters and brothers “Look at me. You don’t want to end up like me!” :lmao: Of course, I am very happy with where I am in my life now, but it took me a long time to get to this point! Having awesome kids helped :goodvibes

Hey, guys! Let’s get back into some trip planning, shall we? I have been thinking a lot about the t-shirts I want to create for the trip. I headed over to the DISign boards and lurked over there for a good portion of Friday afternoon! It is dangerous over there! So many cute ideas!!! I plan on making not only t-shirts, but also autograph books, passports, M&M and Mentos tubes for penny pressing, tip envelopes and maybe even a Cupcake Crawl booklet! :yay: but :faint: but mostly :yay: For right now, I want to focus on the shirts. There were so many adorable designs over on that board, but being an artsy type myself, I wanted to try my hand at making them. I have had all of these grand ideas about different shirts for a long time now, so I was excited to read the tutorials on name fills over there on the boards. I decided to try name fills first because they seemed to be the most difficult. I think I can do the other types of graphic designs I want fairly easily… but then again, that was what I thought about the name fills! Yeah, that isn’t as easy as it looks! I followed the tutorial for creating them in Word and although they were great instructions, I didn’t get the name fills to turn out quite like how I wanted:

Yeah, they pretty much suck :lmao: Well, actually, I think they are a good first attempt. They just need a bit more finesse! I don’t like how a lot of the characters’ eyes are cut out due to the shapes of the letters in Coy and True’s names. I think all I really have to do, though, is crop the picture a little so that I can select where exactly to put the picture behind the name :thumbsup2 I might even fill each letter in the names individually instead of using a large picture. I’ll try again once I get home. I did these today during lunch, so I didn’t really take my time with them. I am pretty pleased with them – I am just super critical of my own work! I have a whole new respect for the DISigners over on that board because name fills are not easy! The other designs I have in mind are mostly ones that will be pictures with things written over them, so I think they will be much easier.

I started out with Pooh and Friends because our first meal of our trip will be at Crystal Palace. I think most of our WDW t-shirts will be based on places we will visit each day. I think that will prompt a little character interaction during meal times ::yes:: As far as UO, I am thinking of a Harry Potter shirt and a Dr. Seuss shirt. I don’t think I will do a shirt for Sea World… We’ll see.

So I was at Wally World last week (Wal-Mart :rotfl: ) and I saw these transfers:

As I was posting that picture, I just noticed that this is $11.97 for a 5 pack! Is that even a good price? If I make 5 shirts for each of us, that’s $36 right there before even getting the t-shirts! Speaking of t-shirts, I have heard a lot of good things about jiffyshirts.com. I heard that they run big or run small, but I don’t remember which  I might just end up going to Michaels because I can make sure they are the right size and color. Anyway, back to the transfers, has anyone ever used them? How do they hold up? If you used something else, then what? A long time ago, I read that someone on the design boards sold transfers (light and dark) but I don’t think I have the link to her site anymore. Would anyone recommend those transfers (I want to say her name is Amy) because I can look for the link if hers are good. I welcome any tips on the transfers! I want to make sure our t-shirts last! I have also been looking on the boards and Pinterest for tie-dye techniques. I don’t think I am adventurous enough to try the Mickey Head tie-dye, but I do kinda want to try. I might just end up doing a tie-dye and putting a transfer on top. Will that work? Or would the dye somehow interfere with the transfer? I’m excited to get going!

Is anyone suffering from the late afternoon munchies like I am right now? Want to see a completely non-Disney related picture of epic yumminess? There was a food truck outside of my job and they were selling hot mini donuts! They were apple cider donuts with a raspberry preserve!

Good God they were delicious!!! The guy selling them said that I had to eat them hot, so I had three of them while they were still nice and warm…AND THEY WERE FANTASTIC!!! I had to save the other three for after lunch, so they were just room temp by then, and they were still scrumptious! OK, I need to calm down :lmao: I’m just having a sugar crash, so don’t mind me :rolleyes1

Amymickey.com! Those are the ONLY transfers I use, they are fantastic! More to say later, on my phone right now.

Hi Erin, so about the transfers, they pretty much suck. Even when you wash them in cold and hang to dry they flake and crack. I would design the shirts and then find somewhere to get them made...we made that dumbo onsie for Robbie and the transfer was half off by the second wash. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
:guilty:

This is why you have to get them from amymickey! I have some of our shirts from 2009 that are still wearable! They hold up REALLY well to washing and I won't buy the store brands anymore after using hers.

The tie dye isn't HARD, it's just time consuming. We have done it numerous times, I totally think you could do it Erin! :thumbsup2

Hey Erin, :wave2:

Those Donuts really look to die for...oh my I look forward to the Apple Cider donuts every year around autumn... I can't believe you have a truck right outside work... very dangerous...:rolleyes1

I think the Kid's Names look cute with the Pooh figures... but I don't really know too much about the transfers...:confused3

I did do some tie die several years ago... Mickey Heads... and they were actually pretty cute in a Boho way... we ALL wore them... and I think that David might still have his and possibly Eric... I can't totally remember but I don't recall them being that hard to make...

Hoping you had a good weekend...

Sorry I fell off of the face of the Earth for a week, guys! It was that time of year for me again: Birthday time! True turned 10 on Wednesday and Coy turned 14 yesterday! So I’ve been busy planning, shopping, decorating, and eating cake! :faint: The kids had good birthdays, though, so that is all that matters. I’ll try to post a few pictures soon, but first I need to post some replies and get caught up on some PTRs and TRs!

Thanks, Karen! I looked at the website and I am going to get a pack of hers. :thumbsup2

Oh no, Alysa! I’m sorry you had such a bad experience with those transfers! I’m glad I asked before I brought them! The Dumbo you did on that onesie was so adorable! At least you have the pictures :goodvibes

That’s amazing that the transfers have lasted so long! I’ve always wanted to make a decorative quilt out of our vacation t-shirts (you know, once I learn how to sew  ) and I was wondering how long the shirts I would make might last. This is good to know! Oh, and I found a Mickey head tie dye thread on here, so I think the kids and I might try it out!

Yeah, that donut truck is dangerous! Both for my wallet and my waistline! I’m glad you liked the Pooh designs! Thanks! I will have to try to do a few more this weekend because I want to get started on the shirts soon.

Good to know - I'll give hers a try, thanks Karen! :)

Erin, hope the kids both had a fantastic day - you too!
:cake:

I just made another ADR change. For our Sea World day, I made an ADR for breakfast at Whispering Canyon Café. “But, Erin,” you may ask, “Don’t you already have a dinner ADR at Whispering Canyon Café for that day?” Yes, I do, but I was having one of my famous sugar crashes and I was looking at a TR where the family had breakfast at WCC and I just HAD to get an ADR there!!! Just like you shouldn’t go to the grocery store when you are hungry, you shouldn’t read TRs when you are hungry! You might just see something that will turn your plans upside-down! So, the plan is to go to WCC at 7:30 am, get to Sea World as close to 9am as possible and go from there. I was feeling uneasy about the combination of not having a substantial breakfast before going to Sea World and being unfamiliar with the lunch options there. If we have a good breakfast, we will be full for most of the morning and we probably won’t feel rushed to pick a place for lunch in Sea World. A hungry mommy is a cranky mommy, and no one wants that! :lmao: Wait! I mean the kids are cranky when they are hungry! Yeah, the kids! Not me! OK, we are all pretty bad when we are hungry, but I am by far the worst!

I am almost positive that I will cancel our dinner ADR there. It would be crazy to have breakfast AND dinner there, right? :confused3 Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I realize that I should probably cancel the dinner ADR. It’ll also make it so we are not as rushed to leave the park to get back for dinner. Plus, it’ll leave our evening free. I’m going take the weekend to think about it because I don’t want to be an ADR hoarder! I don’t want to keep an ADR that someone else might need!

In other news, I’m going to Vancouver in September!!! I have to go to a conference for my job, so I will be in Vancouver, B.C. for about four days! I’ve never been to a conference with this job, so I have no idea how much of my day will be scheduled, but whatever free time I have, you can be sure I will be checking out the city! I am so excited! I love Canada! I have been to Montreal, Toronto and the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, but Vancouver is clear across the country, so I have never been there. So, my DISbuddies, can any of you tell me what you would do if you had a couple of evenings to tour Vancouver? Any restaurants? Any museums that might be open a little later? Any places to see great architecture? Any places to meet hot Canadian guys? :lmao:

Of course, this means I have to get a passport. The last time I traveled to Canada, a passport wasn’t required. The only other time I have been out of the country was when I went to Jamaica about 16 years ago. So, no, I don’t have a passport  I’ve always wanted one because I have always wanted to travel internationally, but it just hasn’t happened yet. So I am going to get mine and I am going to get passports for the kids, as well. No, they aren’t going on this trip (and, boy, are they jealous!) but I wanted for us to all get our passports at the same time so that we can all renew them at the same time. Considering that they are 14 and 10, it seems kinda silly because they will be grown before they need to renew their passports, but I am OCD in that way where I like to do things all at once  BUT…bringing it back to Disney, as always, once the kids have their passports, we will be free to travel anywhere we like! Maybe we can take a Disney cruise! Coy has always wanted to, but True doesn’t want to do this because she has a thing with boats now. It’s understandable, though. Her dad took her and Coy fishing one day last summer and they got caught in a storm. Why he would take them fishing on a day when bad weather was forecasted, I will never know. Thank goodness everyone was OK. But now she doesn’t want to get on a boat. Her dad was even supposed to take them deep sea fishing this summer, but she already told him that she doesn’t want to go because she doesn’t want to get on a boat. Poor thing! I’m going to try to ease her back into feeling comfortable on boats this summer, but we’ll see. I’ve also started talking to her about a cruise and telling her a cruise ship isn’t exactly a boat and more like a floating city, but she isn’t buying it :rotfl:

I have also looked at Adventures by Disney. You guys are probably like, “Why is everything Disney related?” Wait. No you’re not. This is the DIS so you understand! :disrocks: I think Disney is a wonderful travel brand, so I think that the first time we travel abroad, I’d want to do it with them. I looked into one of their tours once that covered parts of England and France. It looked amazing! English men and French food! Oh, wait, I’ll be travelling with my kids… Harry Potter and French food :rotfl2: Those trips and flights are a bit expensive, though, so it might be a couple of years until I can really plan one. For now, I might be able to look into a cruise for next year or maybe I can drive the kids up to Canada next summer. I’m just excited about all of the possibilities!

Ah, Vancouver. I've been there. Once. I was about 19 and I went to visit a pen pal who I had written to for years! I don't remember what the names of the places are, but I know I stuck my feet in the PACIFIC OCEAN!! We also went to a nice zoo and a really beautiful botanical garden. Sorry I don't remember the names and I wasn't a huge photographer back then so I didn't get pictures of signs! But I know it was beautiful!! Lucky you!

I think travelling with Disney is a great idea. I still don't have any ambition to leave the US, but if I do, I would probably check out Adventures by Disney. I'm with True on the cruises though. Nope, no boat for me either!! If I can't see land, I'm not going. Oh, I go whale watching etc off the coast of Maine, but never far enough out where I can't see land. I know, I'm funny that way! :upsidedow

The ADR change sounds like a good idea Erin! I think going to Sea World with a full stomach is best and then you won't feel rushed to get back to an ADR in the evening.

Yay on the trip to Vancouver! I know nothing of Canada, so I'm no help! I would LOVE to do Disney Adventures, but my husband wants to "explore" and be "free" so no tours for us if we ever go overseas. :rolleyes2

I had to laugh at you thinking that ANYONE reading this would question that it's all about DISNEY. Glad you remembered who you were talking to! :lmao:

A hungry mommy is a cranky mommy, and no one wants that! :lmao: Wait! I mean the kids are cranky when they are hungry! Yeah, the kids! Not me! OK, we are all pretty bad when we are hungry, but I am by far the worst!

:thumbsup2

You'll love Vancouver, it's really beautiful, especially in the spring! There is the museum of anthropology, you could do a horse-drawn trolly through Stanley Park, the Art Gallery, Science World, and my favourite, the VanDusen Botanical Garden.

I’ve been MIA again. I know. I am sorry! I just don’t have anything to update right now. I’m good with my ADRs the way they are (oops, I still need to cancel that dinner at WCC) and it’s still a little early to make up a ride by ride touring plan. I’m not even sure I’m going to do that. I might make up a touring plan just for something to do

I do have a few movie nights up my sleeves, but I’m not sure when I am going to do them. I have had the supplies for Jurassic Park and Tron for the longest time, but the kids and I just haven’t gotten around to doing the movie nights. I’m going to try to at least do Jurassic Park this weekend. I’m debating about going to Jurassic Park in 3D at the movies, but I’m not sure it’s worth it, considering how many times the kids and I have been disappointed by 3D movies in the past. Plus, we’ve seen Jurassic Park a million times, so will it be that much cooler to see it in 3D? :confused3 Has anyone gone? If so, what did you think?

Well, I am sure I can fit a few movie nights in because I will have the kids three weekends in a row. I’ll have them my regular weekends and I will have them on Mother’s Day Weekend. Speaking of that weekend, Kyle is graduating from college the day before Mother’s Day :goodvibes After his graduation, we are going to have a big party at my house party: I am so excited for Kyle. I know I am going to cry my eyes out at his graduation  I cried at each of my siblings’ high school graduations! I am such a sap! My mom, True and I have already planned out the menu and we are looking to get decorations this weekend. We have to prepare for the party all next week because people will be coming to my house straight after the graduation, so we won’t have time to prepare anything that day. So we have been organizing and cleaning – well, to be fair, my mom has done most of the cleaning – and I finally got my landlord to clean the carpet upstairs. I have been having a lot of issues with my landlord, but that is a completely different story :headache: But everything is coming together nicely and we should have a great party for the first of us kids to graduate college! :yay:

Let’s see… what else is going on?... Oh, I had my first experience of a virtual stranger expressing their disapproval of my decision to homeschool my kids. I have arrived! :lmao: It’s not official until someone says you shouldn’t be homeschooling, right? :rotfl: Well, I took my kids to their well visits at their pediatrician’s office and we saw a doctor that we have seen once before in the practice. Actually, she may have even seen Coy when he was having the stomach issues that were associated with his anxiety disorder! In any case, we were talking about school and I said that I started homeschooling them this year. She gave me that look. You know, that disapproving grandma look. My grandma never gave me that look, by the way, because I was a perfect kid  But the doctor peered over her glasses and basically said that it would be better for my son if he just dealt with his “issues” and went to school like other kids. OK, she might have a valid point for some kids, but she didn’t know my kids. Coy is doing so much better academically now that he doesn’t have that social pressure and True is loving being able to dictate pretty much what she wants to learn and at what pace. Oh, and the doctor basically said that True didn’t need to be homeschooled. Hmm… I wasn’t aware that a doctor who saw kids once before would be so in tune with what they needed The doctor summed up our visit with telling Coy he should just suck it up and go to high school next year. Then she tried to get a commitment from True that she would go to 5th grade next year. I was proud of myself for not getting angry with the doctor, because if my kids weren’t there, I am pretty sure she would have gotten a piece of my mind! All I said to her was that we are taking this a year at a time and we aren’t making any decisions about next year right now. After we left, the kids asked me in the car if they really had to go to public school next year if they didn’t want to, and I said that they didn’t. I also made sure the kids understood that they could tell me at any point if they did want to go back to public school, and that would be fine, too. I just want what’s best for them and I stand by my decision to homeschool my kids. If at some point I don’t think my kids are benefiting from homeschooling, or if my kids want to go back to public school, they’ll go back to public school. For now, I think the kids are doing great! :thumbsup2 Oh, and one other thing about their checkup, True is 5’1” (so an inch shorter than my mom already!) and Coy is 5 feet 8 and 1/4 inches so, he is officially ¼ inch shorter than me. He will probably be a good inch taller than me by this time next year! My baby is growing up!

In other news, I finally started seeing someone! He seems like a really good guy, too. He’s 34, so I am robbing the cradle! I’ve only dated someone that young once before, but this guy seems fairly mature and level-headed. He’s a Marine Corps vet and now works in a government job. What is with me and these ex-military men, right? Living in this area, you can’t throw a stick without hitting someone who is or was in the military. This is the first Marine I have dated, though. He’s tall – 6’2” – ruggedly good looking, smart, funny, kind of intense  and – here’s the kicker – he’s a planner like me! He might just be a keeper, if for his list-making abilities alone! :rotfl: We haven’t been seeing each other long, so it’s not serious, but I like him. We have great conversations and he is a very open person. Oh, and he passed the Disney test with flying colors! I told him I am taking the kids to Disney Word at the end of the summer, and he told me he wanted to take his daughters there one day, too. He even already had a loose plan of taking the auto-train down and staying at an offsite resort. Then he complained about ticket prices and amusement park food. If he turns out to be a keeper, I might have to impart some of my Disney wisdom on him so that he can take his kids on a nice trip. It was all I could do to not tell him about package deals and park hoppers and on-site vs. off-site resorts and ADRs! :rotfl2: He likes to travel, so I think he might actually appreciate my advice. He’s already talking about taking me on a little weekend getaway in June. The adventure begins again! :lmao:

I’m so excited about Vancouver! I really can’t wait to go! It sounds like you had a nice time when you were there. I hope I can soak up the sights while I am there, too. I’ve always wanted to go whale watching! There was a tour in Boston that I wanted to do, but I think we were there too early in the year. If I recall, the whale watching tours didn’t start until April or something. Maybe one day…

Yeah, I need to cancel that dinner ADR after I get off the boards. I get where Rey is coming from in just wanting to explore a new place, and I don’t mind doing that in the states, but I would be too scared to do that in a foreign country! I wouldn’t want to commit some sort of innocent mistake and end up on that show Locked Up Abroad! So, yes, it is all about Disney and I shoulda known you’d understand!

:lmao:

:thumbsup2

Thanks for the suggestions! I would love to do all of those things! I am going to have to start researching for this trip. I’ll start with looking up those spots :goodvibes I can’t wait to go!

Jeez Erin! You stay gone so long that I can't reply to it all when you finally post! :p

First off, OMG what is with doctors and homeschooling?!?!? I swear, they must have a secret-against-homeschooling-sect. ;) It's ok, you are right, until someone has bashed you or given you trouble about homeschooling, you aren't really in the club yet. So WELCOME! People need to keep their opinions to themselves when they have no clue what they are talking about. A doctor telling you about homeschooling is like my mechanic telling me about being a CEO. :confused3

Can't wait for more Disney nights and sounds like things are going well with the new guy! :thumbsup2

So.......Erin's got a new man, eh? I wish you all the best with him. Just make sure he is good to you and the kids! HE MUST LOVE DISNEY AND WANT TO GO EVERY SINGLE YEAR!! Ok, there are my requirements. If he passes those things, he may be a keeper! :lmao:

Don't worry about what others say about homeschooling. My feeling is as long as they are learning what they need in order to persue the careers they choose, then that's great! It's no one's business anyways. :rolleyes1

So yes, we need some Disney movie nights!!!

Hey Erin! Sorry I have been MIA. I don't have a Disney trip planned for a long while so it's a little depressing to be here sometimes. :rolleyes1 I need to get over myself!

I had no idea you were homeschooling the kiddos! How cool. I hope it's going well! :) I'm sorry your ex put you through such crap awhile back. I'm glad that it's done and over with.

Looking forward to catching up more with you!

Funny about Jurassic Park - Harold wants to take the kids to see this too. Let us know if you go!

Don't you hate renting? I do. Congrats to your brother! Can't wait to see the photos! You and True always make such cute parties!:goodvibes

Bahh! Don't listen to your doctor. People are always going to happily tell you what you can't do. You and your kids know what is best for them. Stay strong!

Coy will probably be resting his chin on the top of your head soon! ;)

How wonderful and exciting about the guy! Congratulations! No one deserves a good man more than you my dear! :lovestruc
