In England at a Restaurant 10% is usually a very good tip, I was a little shocked when I read that the usual american tip was 18%.

Now I know I will leave 18% ish. But not this year though cos I am covered with the DDP. ;)

I used to leave something the last day - until it dawned on me (pun not intended, DM :goodvibes ) that it isn't always the same housekeeper. So now I leave it each day - but I was leaving $2 or $3 a day. (occasionally $5 if they did something special for us) ...

No "debate", as you say, DawnMaree... just wondering. :goodvibes

I think you are justified in what you leave. Before we had kids, we usually left $2 - $3 a day depending... You are only a family of 3 and are you really slobs??? :lmao:

I know Courtney has an fast southern accent!!! I could hardly keep up with her on the phone!:lmao:

I most certainly do not have an accent! :snooty:

I will second you on the fact that I talk SUPER fast!!!! I am told often that people can't keep up! And I'm LOUD too :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

On the contrary, :lmao: , we constantly pick up after ourselves, leave the towels in a neat pile... I once joked that we probably keep the room cleaner than some housekeepers! ;)

DM and Courtney this is the property I am trying to sell, if you go to just above the pic of the the house to download particulars you can see the inside pics then..........make me an offer :rotfl:

Seriously if you all could have a look and let me know what you think I would be grateful.

Andrea

1A--- It's so beautiful!!!! It's also very clean looking!!!! What $ does that equate to in American dollars??? Have you already found a house that you are buying?

My inlaws in Michigan insist I have a "New Yawk", "New Joisey" accent, but I most certainly DO NOT. :snooty:
:rotfl:

This, coming from people who think you pronounce three different words the exact same way....
Girls Name: MARY
Will you MARRY me?
and MERRY Christmas..... It's all Mary, Mary, and Mary to them....:sad2:

HMMMM...arent they all pronounced the same way?:confused3 :lmao:
I said all three out loud and I say them all the same way. Maybe because Michigan and Illinois are close by, same accent I suppose?

Courtney and DM, you two been cheating on us talking on the phone:sad2: ;) No fair.. I want to hear those accents and judge for myself:rolleyes1

Growing up and taking family vacations, my parents never left a tip for housekeeping. I remember seeing those envelopes on a table. Its been two yrs since we stayed in a hotel, and honestly I cant remember if we left anything. I know last yr on the cruise, you are "expected" to leave money for your room guy, and we always do. We just dont do leave the "suggested" amount.

Andrea - I looked at your home. You don't live there now do you? It looks way too clean!!!! :rotfl2: Funny how different kitchens look over there than here! Looks nice. :thumbsup2

Ha! Courtney and I talk all the time on the phone. She just won't stop calling me in the middle of the night. Her heavy breathing really soothes me to sleep...:lmao:

Oops...I'm caught! Yes, we only spoke once but we really were jabber jaws!

It equates to just under $340,000.

There is a bit of a story to tell here, this is my sort of business venture we live somewhere else about 20 mins away. I did live here for 19 years of my life and then I moved out 7 years ago to set up home with DH (was DBoyfriend then). Then mum and dad split up and divorced and I bought the house from them just over a year ago. I then renovated it and its now up for sale.

I do feel a little sad about it as its been in the family for so long :sad1:

I always think the same about the different kitchens, I have been looking online at townhomes recently and the ovens always seem to be black not stainless steel over here usually in a new kitchen stainless steel appliances are installed. I suppose they are deemed more modern over here than the white or black.

The rooms also look a lot smaller than they actually are :confused3 especially the kitchen, in the picture you can see about two thirds of the actual room.

Do you think it looks too stark?

I am off to bed I hope I have lots to read before work in the morning!

Goodnight

"What is the first thing you do when you get into the hotel room?"... this was a question on the community board, and its quite intereting. So, I thought I would ask here.

It doesnt matter if its a Disney hotel or not, what is the first thing you do when getting into your hotel room?

My first thing is I take the bedspread off and put it on the floor. A long time ago I saw a 20/20 type show saying that A lot of people have sex on top of the bedspread...:rolleyes1 , so thats the first thing that goes. Then I check out the bathroom, to make sure its clean. This yr though, I will be wiping things down with my clorex wipes;)

Hahahaha!!!! Great minds think alike! I throw that thing on the floor. Then I lysol everything! Then I put the remote in a ziplock back-- -You know how many germs are on that thing!!!

Then I take towels and make a trail from the bed to the bathroom. So we don't have to walk on the dirty carpet. Always wear flip flops too...

Also, most times, I put do not enter on the door... I don't like it when I've cleaned everything to my liking and then the maids come in and fix it back... Then, there's even more grody germs on the bedspread b/c I had previously put it on the floor!!!

So, I guess that answers the earlier question of the day--- I don't tip hotel maids b/c I don't use them!!!!

I saw the same 20/20 special and I really hate to stay in hotel rooms b/c of it... I'm a germ-o-phobe!

I have a quick look around and have a close inspection of the bathroom for dirt, hair etc.

I also dont keep the bedspread on the bed either usually cos they are all itchy and full of bed balls!

Good idea about the towels. I never allow bare feet on the floor bathroom included either!

I LOVE the window seat! The home looks so "English Cottage" - very charming!! Good luck! ;)

Whoa! That's some routine, Courtney! :lmao:

I always check the bathroom for cleanliness, make sure there are more than enough towels (I have long, thick hair that takes a full size bathtowel to dry, so I want at least an extra one or two), and make sure there are extra pillows - I sleep with at least 3. I check the bedding, but I confess, I do leave the spread on, except when we are sleeping, then it comes down to the end of the bed. I also make sure the air is working - I HATE a hot room. :scared:

But, aside from the usual, I don't worry about the "germs" - I figure, if I can work with PK through Grade 8 kids, I've seen enough germs for a lifetime! :rotfl:
