Came in the mail, $250 bonus offer if you spend $1500 each month Sept first through Jan 31st.(5 months). You have to do it each month or you don't get the bonus. I had to call to sign up and mention I got the flier in the mail. This is on top of the regular cashback you would accumulate on that $1500. Watch your mailbox. If anyone didn't get it and wants to try, let me know and I will post the 1800 number for it.: This on top of the $200 Freedom Visa offer DH got in the mail, on top of the great Southwest offer I got a few months back just may put me on the Disney Fantasy in 2012.:woohoo:

Just a word of warning. We did this October 2010-February 2011 for a $500 cashback bonus. I was religious about making sure I met my benchmarks each month. On my statement in June 2011, I noticed that the $500 wasn't yet posted. I called and was told that I didn't meet my benchmarks for each required month. I made the customer service person add it all up, and she admitted that, yes, I did meet the benchmarks, but she couldn't do anything about it. I asked for her manager, and same thing, I met it, but they couldn't do anything about it. Talked to her superior who then changed the story, yes, you did meet the benchmarks, but you never called in to sign up . . . well, in fact I had written down the date, time, and person I spoke to when I signed up, so I provided her that information. She took my information and called me back two days later and told me that "because you have been such a long-time customer we will credit your account." As you can tell from the vent, I was a little irritated with the whole process and her final comment. But, I digress, I did get the $500 bonus on the very next statement.
Thus, moral of the story: write down who you talk to when you sign up and make sure you meet all of your monthly benchmarks.
Thanks, that felt good to vent.
That being said, I still LOVE my discover card and the cashback bonus program!

I would love if you could post the number. I did the offer last fall and got the $500.

Yes, please post the number. I would really like to do this!

sorry, went to the zoo yesterday... here is the number 1-866-645-1436 Ask for the $250 Cashback Bonus from Sept 2011-Jan 2012.

I am in the process of doing one that's $3000 per month for $500. Be careful of how you charge. I was told that the $3000 was per CALENDAR month. Not per statement. I think we might of missed a month because a purchase that I expected to post on the 29th did not post until the 2nd. It was the way the store handled an exchange.

I am not sure I could even spend $1,500 in a month. But I am going to transfer everything I can over to Discover and try to make it work.

Thanks,

Dawn

i too am gonna see if i can spend enough to do this, but unless i can find a way to get a major payment like a car payment on it i dont think it will happen :-( i already do my groceries, gas, cell and cable bill

We got tired of playing all the games with Discover. For piece of mind and less hassle, we went with another card that pays a 2 percent on everything. It is a Fidelity/Amex card and has been suggested by Clark Howard. We still have the Discover card and use it every so often just to keep it active.

---I did a little quick math....if every five months I spent 1500, I would earn 150 bucks. (2percent of 7500).....and would be a normal thing month after month.

Discover will also give you the regular 1% on most purchases and 5% on bonus purchases PLUS the $250. It is also based on 3 months, not 5.

I am not sure how you say it is a normal thing month after month when your scenario was based on 5 full mo

Not that your deal is a bad deal, I just don't think this is a accurate comparison.

PS: Oops....I just realized this is for 5 months, not 3 as I thought.

I'm pretty sure its .25% or something for the first $1k and then 1% for everything afterwards. I could be wrong, but I think that's why DH told me to only charge on discover if it met the 5% categories.

We are going to sign up (we got the notice in the mail), but I'm going to have to stalk the statements making sure that everything clears and that its done per calendar month since our statement over laps months.

Ah, well, that may be. We don't use it all that often, so I haven't paid attention to the small details.

But this deal would be good if you are going to spend this much anyway.

I am not sure we are. So far I have come up with about $1100 we could spend regularly, if we include groceries, which will mean Sam's instead of Costco for 3 months. We much prefer Costco, so not sure we will be able to do it.

Of course, we can't use any CC at Costco anyway and Sam's doesn't take Visa. We usually just use cash.

I already did the $250 cashback bonus (had to spend $1500 per month) earlier this year...I had no trouble with Discover whatsoever....the credit showed up on my account within weeks of the promotion ending :thumbsup2
I couldn't believe how easy it was!!

My Discover is .25% until I reach $3000 in my calendar year and then it goes to 1%. Purchases at warehouse clubs don't count towards the $3000 and I think some discounters don't either, I too only use Discover for the 5% bonus offers.

So, with the $250 cash back, do the warehouse clubs count towards the $1,500 that needs to be spent per month?

Dawn

Maybe I should ask if anything doesn't count towards you $1500.

I am thinking of things like gift cards, which I intend to get for Christmas gifts, GC to places like Amazon, Starbucks, Walmart and Disney.

Thanks,

Dawn

FYI: I just called the number and asked for the offer but was told that it was not linked to my account. As this was the case, she could not sign me up for it. I wonder if it's because I DO normally put at least $1500 per month on it already? Oh well, I tried!
