Whew! I think I finally made it through to the end! I was busy sewing this weekend and got very behind! Anyway, just wanted to share some pics...

First, a total CASE for a little girl's birthday party next weekend (she's having a LM theme)
mermaiddis.jpg
mermaidback.jpg

What pattern did you use to make this? My mom picked up a pillowcase to make a top with and this would be perfect!

My try at the woven headband and princess clippies.
th_IMG_1835.jpg

I was supposed to use light blue for the little side loops on cinderella but I didnt have any so I went w/ more blue since its what I had on hand.
Took me a bit but I like how they came out :)Especially since its my first try for any of these items lOL.I was so nervous about the woven headband but I see many more of those being made esp since my DD is a headband lover.
LMK what you think!

I like how they came out. great job!!!

I have this pattern in the small baby sizes and its SO easy, seriously.Took me maybe a hour and half to make a complete set :)

It is sooo easy!:)

I LOVE how the lucky outfit turned out!! wow! and the minnie outfit is so cute too!! Did you do those letter appliqué's by hand?? If so, wow!

Yep, they are cut by hand and then appliqued using the satin-stitch on my sewing machine. I love how they turned out.

SO CUTE!!!! I love the dalmations. Very creative! Hope you feel lots better real soon!

Thank you!

I have a Build a Bear question for anyone who has done Build a Bear parties!

Did your birthday boy or girl get to go above and beyond the "fixed" amount the party? Meaning, the "guest of honor" has a bear with an entire outfit including shoes and accessories while the other party guests have bare footed bears with maybe a t-shirt and a pair of shorts? Each guest will have $25 to spend, and I'm of the opinion that $25 is more than enough for Sally and Teddy to have nice bears with a cute outfit without having to go lavishly over board. Especially since they'll have had a ton of other gifts from family.

I guess I'm a little uncomfortable with the "Look what I got and YOU didn't" concept. It bugs me. It could be a childhood thing...our mom didn't let us win game prizes at our own birthday parties. We could play the games, but if we "won" the second place person got the prize instead...it was our birthday after all and we were getting gifts from everyone already.

Any thoughts? I want the kids to have a great day, but I also want them to get the concept of being satisfied with what they've got and not needing "MORE", birthday or not.

Could be that wicked step mother thing.

:goodvibes

I've not hosted one of those parties, but I've been to one. I don't remember if the birthday girl got more stuff or not, but I think it would be the choice of the parent. If I were a guest at the party, and the birthday kid got more stuff, I would not be offended, it is their birthday after all. I do think it is great that you want to teach your kids to be unselfish and to care about their friends feelings though. Everyone likes a nice kid!!:)

Ok, coming out of lurkdom again. I posted my first sewing project
a while back... the blue and yellow patchwork twirl skirt that went
with the cinderella shirt.

Here are my newest attempts...

Simple halter Ariel dress
ArielDress.jpg

Tink halter shirt
TinkShirt.jpg

A patchwork "pirate" twirl skirt (The red really does go, I promise. The
pirate prints have that kind of red color in them. It just sticks out like a
sore thumb in this picture.) The shirt is a iron-on from Michaels. It has
more pieces in the package and I'm thinking of adding in some more of
something to punch it up a little.
PirateOutfit.jpg

And finally, I didn't sew these, but... made them none the less.
TieDyeMickeys.jpg

My first little creations are nothing compared to the truly boutique
items many of you make, but I am pretty proud of them none the
less. And... DD is in love with them, and that's the most important
thing, right?

Thanks again for the inspiration and encouragement or I would have
never even attempted these!

These are FANTASTIC!!! I love these, they are very boutiquey!

Hello, all! I've been tending to a sick baby for about a week, and now guess what?.... I'M home sick today! Sore throat, snotty nose, blech!

Anyway, I finally finished the "Lucky" outfit. Here are pictures of the front and back. Hopefully Kimberly will post pics of the outfit on her daughter after she receives it this week....

I love the outfits!! The Minnie Dot A-line is adorable!!! Nate is so cute too!

Where did you get your tags? They look so cute on your clothes!
So I am really wanting a green petti. I am not exactly sure who purchased directly from Sams ( Teresa was that you??) but I would love if that person could PM me about how I can do this, or if they are ordering, how I can join in??? Pretty Please????
That was me, I'll PM you.

When Lyddy had her party, her Aunt Heather gave her money to buy an outfit for her bear. Brian paid for the $10 party, so the other kids got a nekid bear. None of them cared that Lyddy got clothes. $25 will get the kids a bear and a nice outfit, especially if they pick one of the cheaper bears. I think most kids are just really happy to be at the party, they aren't going to care if the guests of honor get a little something special, and if they do, they are brats. :rotfl2: So, do what you guys want!

(of course, this birthday party advice is coming to you from someone who doesn't celebrate birthdays!)

Beautiful!!! What is that kind of shirt called that crosses in the back- are there any snaps or buttons to that? I think dd needs some of those for summer! Your son is very handsome too!! All the "poses" were cute!!

I think they are just called criss-cross tops, and no there are no buttons, snaps, etc. They just pull over the head. I used McCalls 9369.

Hi ladies and Tom:)

I have not dropped off the face of the earth... I just really messed up my new computer :headache: I have been checking in occasionally at a friends house. I am actually here right now with 8 kids and they are being very quiet :scared1:

Leanne, Katie and I had our mother daughter trip to the world a few weeks ago. Leanne's cheer team came in second place (missed first by less than one point) we were so proud of them. Katie had a very hard time with out her daddy and wanted to go home the entire trip.

Katie and I had dinner at 1900 park fare and I love it. Katie only like Cinderella and the step mother. She would not get her picture taken with anyone else. She did have a good time watching everyone and would talk to the other characters, just no pictures. She looked adorable in her Cinderella dress. I made it from the simplicity pattern. I even made a petty coat to go under it.

Our day at the MK was much better. We went with Leanne's friend and her mother. The girls got their hair pixied at the barber shop and we got magical fast passes, so the girls got to ride everything the wanted. Katie loved all of the characters this day and had a great time getting autographs. She lost her book somewhere, but being Disney we got it the mail late last week :) Katie wore an adorable Minnie dot dress I made her and got TONS of compliments from cast members and other guests.

For Downtown Disney and dinner at the RFC she wore Minnie dot pants and an appliqués Minnie tee shirt. Again, she looked adorable and stole the show :)

We had a great time. We are going back in September for a family trip, so I am already planning customs. I can not wait. I know she will have a much better time with her dad there.

I know I missed some beautiful customs. I will try to catch up as soon as I am back online. I went crazy the first few days with out internet, but my house is so clean and home schooling is so much faster now:) I think I am going to wait until summer to get it fixed! I will post pictures as soon and I can.

Thanks- I'll be adding that one to my mccalls patterns to buy!! I think they go on sale sometimes too!

AND about the MMR thing- I think I'm Immune to the shot!! You know when you're pregnant and they test you for all that stuff -well one of the thing is your immunity to the measles- I am ALWAYS not immune. So after the baby comes out I have to get the MMR AGAIN!!!! I think one of my cousins has to do the same thing and she has had 4 kids!!! Ouch!!

Hey ALl! Thanks for the compliments on the outfits....sick of them yet? :rotfl2: This is what I did today:

So Megan brought her rest mat to school today. I found out how the last one got destroyed. It is woven little strips (like the potholders we made in the 70s on those looms) and the boy next to her would pull the strips out during rest period! I told her under no circumstances would she let this little ruffian touch her new rest mat and tell the teacher if he was. She said all the girls love her new rest mat because it is so soft. I should go into business selling comfy rest mats to the kindergarten moms next year!

So...what pattern did you use? I'm probably going to be making dd's for school next year.

:goodvibes

We did a BAB party for both kids and they got exactly the same as everyone else for exactly the reasons you gave... Honestly, if you sign up for their rewards system, you will end up with enough points from the party for them to go back another time and get the things they missed to make the "complete outfit" anyway.

What pattern did you use to make this? My mom picked up a pillowcase to make a top with and this would be perfect!

I used the portrait peasant top pattern. This one is a size 5, and I added 5 inches to the bodice. If I were doing it over (and it looks like I will be as DD loves it and doesn't want to give it away!), I would extend it another 2 inches more than that. The ruffle is about 3 times the width of the bodice unruffled and it hangs about 4 1/2 inches long. (It was originally a 7 inch strip, so that is with seam allowances and about a 1 1/4 hem). HTH!

SOOO much cool stuff being posted!!

Okay-Im totally in love with those hairclips. Sadly DD is STILL in the stage of- "its more fun to pull them out than keep them in" so all the cute bows I have (that she used to wear) go unworn. :(

Elisa Im off to check out your *ahem* fabric

Whoops! Posted too quick

EasyFit pants by CarlaC- has anyone done a ruffle instead of the cuff? How'd it come out?

It's great advice!!!:goodvibes

I think I get a little anxious about this stuff b/c my step kiddos are extremely over indulged...to the nth degree...and my step son is the one who gets really anxious about "what else" he'll get...and it is a direct result of being given every single solitary thing he's ever wanted from the time he could point and say "WANT IT!"...not kidding. Of course being the wicked step mother I put a stop to that as soon as I entered the scene. So when he's here, he's pretty good. I am really working on giving him opportunities to see that what he has been given is more than enough and the concept of "THANK YOU" and the thought behind the gift being the important thing...not what comes next.

And the fact is, this is New Jersey...North jersey specifically...and I've run into my fair share of bratty behavior...and "that's not FAIR..." from party guests. I've never SEEN parties like the ones my munchkins are invited to...they are EVENTS. Nobody just has kids over for cake and ice cream any more. Oh no, there are venues rented, entertainment brought it...wedding cake sized birthday cakes. It kind of grosses me out. Mostly b/c I've seen so many bad attitudes and tantrums from the birthday boy or girl and/or guests at these over stimulating events that I make Jay take the kids now. I can't stand it. (No offense to any other North Jersey Disers...I'm sure there are lots of well mannered Jersey kids out there!)

:rotfl2:

OH and guess what!!! Jay's mom got Sally a real sewing machine for her birthday!!!! Sally is going to be over the MOON!!!! It's so special to Jay's mom b/c she sews too. I'm really excited for her to get her machine this weekend!! Just y'all wait, she'll be whipping up her own boutique creations in no time!

I bought a "sewing for dummies" book so I could help her if she runs into snags!

wooHOO!!!:goodvibes

I'm going to be really super nosy and ask this.....

So does your husband celebrate the holidays with the kids? I'm just wondering. Do you ever feel left out when they are doing the celebrating? I'm selfish that way. I think I would just because it's usually fun stuff. You must be way more "grown up" than me. I'm a big baby.

Oh! and drew has that same color green petti. She wore it 2 easters ago and then she wore it to her Hannah montana party with her HM shirt! Great minds think alike!

Thanks for the compliments on the hairbows yall :) I ve been in there working on "belle" and a cheerleader one too this morning.
I SHOULD be sewing LOL.

If anyone is looking to pass their petti (or 2) on for a good deal , I can use any to fit a size 12 months girl and 2 size 7/8 girls ;) hehehe PM me!! lol
Im not picky on color, I can make something to match.
Id just love to have some for my girls to wear for pics coming up!

I made my first peasant top last week *bag* and I was like THIS IS SO EASY WHY DIDNT I DO THIS SOONER ? lol So I m going to give it a go again in a few days. Ive got some renaissance festival apparel to finish up!

Love :lovestruc the lucky outfit! The letters are just perfect. Can I ask what font you used or did you just wing it? The minnie dress is great too, just too cute.

I have never been but I agree with you that the birthday kid should have the same as the guests. I never thought my kids were spoiled until after Easter I heard Jacob on the phone with his grandmother, "we got candy in our Easter baskets and stuffed animals that were not webkinz..." He remembered he got a webkinz last year. I think I am going to start scaling down those kind of things; I want them to appreciate what they have.

Sick of them? Never! You really sew great in a state of panic. I make so many mistakes when I am trying to hurry it actually takes me longer to finish.

So...what pattern did you use? I'm probably going to be making dd's for school next year.

I didn't use one. I just bought crib-sized batting and sewed it all together. The corners really look bad, but it only has to last 2 months. I wanted to try the tutorial, but I thought rolling it up to fit in her cubby might be hard for Megan, so I just kept it simple.

Uh. I live in WESTCHESTER (where all the "rich" people live who work in manhattan and don't live there...think CLINTONS....wish I were rich. :sad2: ). I completely know what you are talking about. we usually have the party somewhere, but that's because our house isn't child-proofed anymore. My kids are pretty good about it, but I have been to some parties where the kids were CRAZY. I also just don't have that big a house.

We had a BAB party for my kids last September(at palisades mall, is that where you're going??). The kids got the same as their friends, but since the birthday kids get a "signature" bear, they felt like they got more for no extra cost to me. Now, my kids birthdays are 2 days apart, adn they each had ONE friend come to the party (By decree), so I let them get $50 level, but none fo the kids eve n came close to that. They just ring everything up at the end, but when you set a budget, they steer the kids towards/away from different things and sometimes pull things out specifically to keep things under budget.

HTH!

My future stepkids (in my dreams, not reality. :) ) are spoiled and I hardly even spend money on them!
I got them a few thing for Easter, I've been buying games that we can all play and I brought Camden (the 5 year old) an old watch and an old cell phone to play with (I love free gifts. heh) - point is, almost everytime I see them, I end up giving them something.
So last week, when I was leaving, Camden said "Didn't you bring me a present?"
and I replied "No. I don't want you to get spoiled."
And I arched my eyebrow.
I think I'm getting the hang of the wicked stepmother thing.
Now to convince their dad.
ha.

But I'm such a kid at heart! I see stuff all the time I want to get for them (mainly so I can play with it too).

I'm such a meanie, that if I thought the other kids would have a fit because they weren't getting the same thing my kids were, I'd probably let my kids get TWICE as much! :rotfl: But, if you think Teddy and Sally would lord it over the other kids that they were getting more, it is probably a good idea to just keep it all the same.

You aren't being nosy, I don't mind! I've never celebrated any holidays or birthdays (born, raised, and still am a Jehovah's Witness). Brian was born, raised and still is a Catholic (yes, interesting combo!). He celebrates the birhtdays and holidays with the kids. He is always trying to talk me intot going to the parties, which kind of drives me crazy actually! But, I never feel left out when they are celebrating. For years, Brian's family would buy me gifts at Christmas, even though I told them not to! It was how they let me know I was part of the family I guess. They have finally stopped doing that, thank goodness! My parents and brother are all Witnesses too, so we don't have that with my immediate family.

And, good choice of pettiskirt! :thumbsup2
