Love, love, love the hair bows....I would loooooooooose my mind if I tried to make those...so great job!

I love the Lucky dress...my DD would love it!

I went to Walmart - resisted the dot fabric...I have way too much undone right now anyway! I will get done what I have and will then go back. :cool1:

Today is my DD birthday. I don't say this except to say...I AM SOOOOOO OLD>:scared: Where did the last 9 years go? i sent her off to school today and just cried like it was the first day of school. :guilty: We have been really getting closer the last few months...she is taking an interest in things I am doing...she has ALWAYS been a Daddy's girl. (He plans on keeping it that way I think!) So today, I think I really feel her growing up.:sad1: Oh yeah...getting old!

First off, WOW you guys have been busy! I haven't been able to look through the pages, but I saw some fantastic hairbows and headband! They are great! LOVE the Lucky outfit and the minnie dress, sooo adorable! Camelot, you are a speed sewer! How on earth have you been getting so many cute things done! You are good!:thumbsup2 Well, I FINALLY finished my first twirl scallopini skirt, and I am working on my niece's birthday outfit! I need some help however, I have a jean skirt and don't know what to do to embellish it! Any ideas? Pictures would be helpful! I am making a pink tee with pink and brown embellishments and some pink and brown monogrammed flip flops! I am going to make a fabric belt for the skirt but wanted to put something on it, I am just sooo indecisive! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys, I know you will have some great ideas!

Thanks to everyone for the kind remarks on my outfits
that I posted.

The pattern for the halters is Simplicity (Easy to Sew) 5531.

The directions for the tie-dye shirts were taken from the
Creative Board. I don't have the thread bookmarked. A
search should find it though. I used a tie-dye kit from
Michael's.

The dots are around all of the Mickey heads, it really shows
up on the yellow and purple (not in the pic), not so much
on the blue one. I just used a blue Sharpie. I thought about
using rhinestones, but didn't have any on-hand. There are
some beautiful shirts over on that thread that have the
rhinestones though. Gorgeous!

Again, thank you all!

Soooo cute! I love them all but the cheerleader is fantastic! Where did you find the instructions for the headbands? If you don't mind me asking?

Wow! I thought you had an embroidery machine. Those letters look great!! Love the minnie dot outfit, too! Sawyer also does the "Edie" when I try to get his picture.

I have a Build a Bear question for anyone who has done Build a Bear parties!

Did your birthday boy or girl get to go above and beyond the "fixed" amount the party? Meaning, the "guest of honor" has a bear with an entire outfit including shoes and accessories while the other party guests have bare footed bears with maybe a t-shirt and a pair of shorts? Each guest will have $25 to spend, and I'm of the opinion that $25 is more than enough for Sally and Teddy to have nice bears with a cute outfit without having to go lavishly over board. Especially since they'll have had a ton of other gifts from family.

I guess I'm a little uncomfortable with the "Look what I got and YOU didn't" concept. It bugs me. It could be a childhood thing...our mom didn't let us win game prizes at our own birthday parties. We could play the games, but if we "won" the second place person got the prize instead...it was our birthday after all and we were getting gifts from everyone already.

Any thoughts? I want the kids to have a great day, but I also want them to get the concept of being satisfied with what they've got and not needing "MORE", birthday or not.

Could be that wicked step mother thing.

:goodvibes
When we had Tessa's party, I set the limit at $20. The manager of the store talked to me beforehand and told me "Make sure everyone gets a $10 bear, so they can all get an outfit." I told her that I was just going to tell them they have $20 to spend and let them get what they want. She told me that she doesn't want a bunch of kids crying because some of them got outfits with their $10 bear and some of them didn't with their $20 bear. I told her that these are all my nieces and nephew and they won't cry about it. She kept insisting and I got a little frustrated with her. Guess what? No one cried! Some of them even shared their "extra money" with their cousins so they could get a shirt or something. I am totally not answering your question, just pointing out what wonderful nieces and nephew I have!

Hi ladies and Tom:)

I have not dropped off the face of the earth... I just really messed up my new computer I have been checking in occasionally at a friends house. I am actually here right now with 8 kids and they are being very quiet

Leanne, Katie and I had our mother daughter trip to the world a few weeks ago. Leanne's cheer team came in second place (missed first by less than one point) we were so proud of them. Katie had a very hard time with out her daddy and wanted to go home the entire trip.

Katie and I had dinner at 1900 park fare and I love it. Katie only like Cinderella and the step mother. She would not get her picture taken with anyone else. She did have a good time watching everyone and would talk to the other characters, just no pictures. She looked adorable in her Cinderella dress. I made it from the simplicity pattern. I even made a petty coat to go under it.

Our day at the MK was much better. We went with Leanne's friend and her mother. The girls got their hair pixied at the barber shop and we got magical fast passes, so the girls got to ride everything the wanted. Katie loved all of the characters this day and had a great time getting autographs. She lost her book somewhere, but being Disney we got it the mail late last week :) Katie wore an adorable Minnie dot dress I made her and got TONS of compliments from cast members and other guests.

For Downtown Disney and dinner at the RFC she wore Minnie dot pants and an appliqués Minnie tee shirt. Again, she looked adorable and stole the show

We had a great time. We are going back in September for a family trip, so I am already planning customs. I can not wait. I know she will have a much better time with her dad there.

I know I missed some beautiful customs. I will try to catch up as soon as I am back online. I went crazy the first few days with out internet, but my house is so clean and home schooling is so much faster now I think I am going to wait until summer to get it fixed! I will post pictures as soon and I can.

Lacy
Great to hear from you again! I can't wait to see pictures!

Hey ALl! Thanks for the compliments on the outfits....sick of them yet? This is what I did today:

You are really making me want an embroidery machine!!

OH and guess what!!! Jay's mom got Sally a real sewing machine for her birthday!!!! Sally is going to be over the MOON!!!! It's so special to Jay's mom b/c she sews too. I'm really excited for her to get her machine this weekend!! Just y'all wait, she'll be whipping up her own boutique creations in no time!

I bought a "sewing for dummies" book so I could help her if she runs into snags!
That is so cool!!! I can't wait to see what she "whips up" with her new machine!

My parents and brother are all Witnesses too, so we don't have that with my immediate family.

And I (as a former Jehovah's Witness) know better than to push them to do birthday/holiday stuff!:thumbsup2

 It's so hard to see them growing up. I understand! Happy birthday to your DD! :cake::bday:

I love these! I haven't tried Belle yet, but that looks so cute, I might have to try it! The cheerleader is GREAT!

That cheerleader is great!!! Well, they all are, but I've never seen a cheerleader before!! Those were my school colors, so I REALLY like it! What a very clever idea!

camelotcats - love the sets! They are so cute! You are a power sewer! What short pattern do you use?

happy Birthday to your DD!!

I do not use a pattern. :rolleyes1 I posted a while back how to make no-side-seam sorts/pants. I do that. basically:

take 2 rectangles about 6-8" wider than half the hip measurement of the person you are making the shorts for and the length of the inseam you want plus 10".

Cut J curves on each top corner. go in 2" from the edge, and down about 7-8", then curve down to the edge (like a "J")

With right sides together sew the J's together, I usually double-sew for stability. Then finish the edges.

open up the shorts and sew the legs together. (the straight part under the "J"s)

Hem the legs.

For the waistband, I usually serge the edge, then turn down 1.5" sew it mostly closed, feed elastic in, then finish the closure in a different thread color witht he same bobbin with the inside up, just to show the "back" (when I sell, I put my tag into the back) .

Viola! Shorts. They take me about 1/2 hour-45 minutes start to finish, mostly the hemming and waistband.

HTH!

ETA: If I remember tomorrow, I will take pics of a pair in progress. I have 2 more pair of shorts to make.

Hey everyone . . .

The internet has not been home for a week. My DH was away. I updated my trip report. Lots of fun pics of the girls customs. The BBB, DD's first haircut and the Pirate Cruise just to name a couple activities.

OOH, a tutorial with pics would be great!!! I allready have your instructions on the blog and bookmarked. But, if you do pictures, I'll update it! Thanks dude!

Uh...Oops. I have a PTR (2 actually, but one's a group trip)....links in my siggie. i will probably start a new TR when I get back.

:lmao: :lmao: North Jersey here and I know what you mean.. Although we have rented venues its the pavilion at the park since we have a big family.

We always went to parks too for birthdays!!! It was fun and open...and usually free! there is an upside to renting venues...it keeps your house from being destroyed!

I have never been but I agree with you that the birthday kid should have the same as the guests. I never thought my kids were spoiled until after Easter I heard Jacob on the phone with his grandmother, "we got candy in our Easter baskets and stuffed animals that were not webkinz..." He remembered he got a webkinz last year. I think I am going to start scaling down those kind of things; I want them to appreciate what they have.

that's kind of where I'm at...the kids sort of expect things. They were REALLY into the webkinz thing for a while. They still are but not as crazy as before. It got to be a competition to see who could buy them the ones they wanted first. (Between Jay and I, their mom and her parents. They always "won".) I got annoyed after having to take back a few...one of which couldn't be returned so now it's MINE...I've quit trying. Sally has over 20. It's a little out of hand. We did get them webkinz for their birthday but only b/c it was "buy one get one free" at Limited too...and it was the OLD ones. I got Sally the blue hippo and Teddy got a leopard. I know that Sally will love it no matter what, but she knows which ones are new and which ones aren't. But she also knows that any fussing about such a thing would result in her wicked step mama taking ownership of the "unwanted" webkinz. Cuz I'm mean.:flower3:

Uh. I live in WESTCHESTER (where all the "rich" people live who work in manhattan and don't live there...think CLINTONS....wish I were rich. :sad2: ). I completely know what you are talking about. we usually have the party somewhere, but that's because our house isn't child-proofed anymore. My kids are pretty good about it, but I have been to some parties where the kids were CRAZY. I also just don't have that big a house.

We had a BAB party for my kids last September(at palisades mall, is that where you're going??). The kids got the same as their friends, but since the birthday kids get a "signature" bear, they felt like they got more for no extra cost to me. Now, my kids birthdays are 2 days apart, adn they each had ONE friend come to the party (By decree), so I let them get $50 level, but none fo the kids eve n came close to that. They just ring everything up at the end, but when you set a budget, they steer the kids towards/away from different things and sometimes pull things out specifically to keep things under budget.

HTH!

Yes it helps thank you!!! We also thought of just one friend a piece, but b/c of the "move" the kids don't see their friends as often as I'd like them to. So we did two friends a piece. Teddy's party at his mother's house will have...y'all aren't going to believe this...40 kids! There are no words. It's way way WAY over the top. And very intentionally so. Whatevs...you reap what you sew.

:goodvibes

I have a friend in Westchester that I visit often. Goodness gracious the size of the estates up there. It's overwhelming. I'd love to have a large home and all...but good NIGHT...old money. It sure is pretty!!!

My future stepkids (in my dreams, not reality. :) ) are spoiled and I hardly even spend money on them!
I got them a few thing for Easter, I've been buying games that we can all play and I brought Camden (the 5 year old) an old watch and an old cell phone to play with (I love free gifts. heh) - point is, almost everytime I see them, I end up giving them something.
So last week, when I was leaving, Camden said "Didn't you bring me a present?"
and I replied "No. I don't want you to get spoiled."
And I arched my eyebrow.
I think I'm getting the hang of the wicked stepmother thing.
Now to convince their dad.
ha.

But I'm such a kid at heart! I see stuff all the time I want to get for them (mainly so I can play with it too).

:rotfl2: Keep practicing girl!!! You'll get that arch down!!:cool2:

Anyone need the Minnie dot fabric from Hancocks? I bought 6 yards yesterday for someone who doesn't want it now. I doubt they will take it back, so I would like to get rid of it if possible. It was $4.99 a yard. PM me if you are interested.

WOW!!!! You guys make such awesome stuff!!!!!!!!!!:worship: :worship: :worship:

Beautiful!!! What is that kind of shirt called that crosses in the back- are there any snaps or buttons to that? I think dd needs some of those for summer! Your son is very handsome too!! All the "poses" were cute!!
Butterick also has a pattern for that shirt #3832. Buttericks are on sale 2/$3.00 this Thu/Fri/Sat at JoAnn's.

 My oldest turns 9 next month (I have a birthday first and I will be OLD ;) ). You need to update your signature.

I haven't posted since the first disboutique thread since we went in November. I actually haven't even sewn anything since then :scared1: . Our next trip probably won't be until 2010 and seeing all the great customs makes me :sad1: .

Anyway, there is a 9 year old girl at our church that I would like to make something for. Their family just started coming to our church and the mom is a friend of a friend so I know her and I don't think she'd be offended, I've made a bunch of stuff for my friend's DD. The family doesn't have much money and the girl's clothes all come from resale shops (not that there's anything wrong with that but you don't find much in a small town resale shop) and everything I've seen this girl wear does not fit her and is so old. I know some of you here have older girls, since I have a 2 yr old I have no idea what would be appropriate for a 9 year old. Or, at least tell me what would be too babyish. Oh, and it has to be easy! I can handle the YCMT patterns pretty well.

Also, I just started my TR....

As long as you have your receipt and you did not cut it they will take it back. :)

Hi All! Once again I've gotten behind on this thread. I think I'm going to make one last apology for not being able to keep up. :-)

Anyway, I finally had a chance to make the pants to go with Zoe's Tink top/dress. Here's the finished set:

tink_pout3.jpg

I also decided to try painting some shoes since I already had a pair on hand that I'd bought a few months ago to experiment on. It was a lot of fun picking different patterns from the prints I used to replicate on sections of the shoes. I'd initially planned to have the shoes basically the same but after I did one, I decided to make the other one totally different. I think they still look like a pair even if they aren't the same. :)

tink_shoes1.jpg

tink_shoes2.jpg

I have a feeling I'll be tempted to make a matching pair of shoes for each set... and Zoe already has more shoes than one little girl needs. LOL Hopefully my practical side will prevail...
