Dis-Dream Academy RP

Atarsi:She felt a bit nervous she hoped Cerulean would go next.

Cerulean:"I will go."

James: "Alright young lady, you know the drill. I play up the scale, and you sing along."

Atarsi:She was up next and was ready.
OOC:Sorry as I was typing to reply your post came up.

OOC: Guys, when you go up for singing, can you please not "not-so-discreetly" drop hints as to what voice part you want your character to be? Sorry, I just can't have 4472598109838 sopranos. Pearl, you've already said Cerulean did all of the exercises in a low voice. If she sings in a low voice, she's singing with a pretty alto voice. Again, I'm sorry- I don't want it to sound like I'm trying to run your character's personality but that's not really how choirs work.

James: He listened to her perform the exercise. "Very good, you may go sit in the Alto section. Atarsi, you're up next."

James: "Very nice! You're a 1st mezzo-soprano. You may sit in the third section."

OOC: The only choir I took was Honor Choir in 5th grade so.....can somebody explain this to me?

Atarsi"Okay."and she sat in the second mezzo-soprano section.

OOC: Okay, so basically, choirs are divided up into the vocal ranges people sing.

Soprano- girls who have higher singing voices
Alto- girls who have lower singing voices
Tenors- boys who have higher singing voices
Bass- boys who have lower singing voices

When it comes to the music itself, obviously they sing different parts of the song. Sopranos sing one thing, altos sing another thing, tenors sing another thing, and bass things another thing. Most of the time it's the same words on different notes, although sometimes they're different parts of the song entirely. Sometimes, we complicate the matter further (to get a better sound) by dividing it up more. This means (in our case), that there are three sopranos. Sopranos, Mezzo-Soprano 1, and Mezzo-Soprano 2. Not only does this enhance the comfort of the singers (so they're singing in ranges that are completely reasonable for them), but it makes the choir sound better because it gives more opportunities for harmony!

So choral arrangements can be SATB (meaning they have soprano, alto, tenor, and bass singers), SSAA (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto 1, Alto 2), and more. Does that make sense?

OOC: Yes, thank you

Marci: She was up next. She sang up the scale, but struggled to hit some of the lower notes.

OOC: I hope this isn't necessarily trying to decide what voice she has on my own, Newsies.

OOC: It's ok :P

OOC: So then is is SSSATB? ?_?

OOC: Oh dear god im a mess oh my god that cant happen @Pearlgem pretend that the second mezzo-soprano section doesn't exist. Atarsi is just a mezzo-soprano

James: "Wonderful, Marci, please set in the Soprano section."

OOC:Oops sorry I'll edit so she sits in the second mezzo-soprano section.

Cerulean:She was enjoying the class.
