Dining tables?

We're on our first Disney cruise in August, we've only cruised Royal Carribbean before.

We booked through a UK travel agent and I don't remember them asking about table size preference. Do they normally do that on Disney cruises? Or is it just a case of finding out what you've been given on your first night?

Do they try to seat people with similar groups? Eg families with young children, couples

Any advice and tips regarding seating would be greatly appreciated.

No, unlike some other cruise lines, DCL doesn't ask your table size preference. Each serving team serves a 4 top, a 6 top, and an 8 top. DCL does assign tablemates with similar group dynamics. Sometimes it doesn't work too well.

Depending on the size of your party, you may or may not be seated with others.

Thanks :)

Is it possible to put in a request? We are a family of three, is there much chance of having a table for 4 to ourselves?

We normally prefer a large table so that there might be a couple of other families, hopefully one of which would work well for us :) our last cruise we were on a table of 10 and the rest were all from the same family and bearly acknowledged us :( I guess there were enough of them not to worry about making friends with their table mates.

:worried: Sad, when we finally make it, we hope to be a group of three with table mates... perhaps you weren't annoying enough...:rolleyes1

We did a 10 night cruise a few years ago and had a table of 10 that was full the first night and then we didn't see our table mates again the whole trip

Our server did tell us as the others left that first night that they'd all told him they'd be eating at the buffet every night and were only there as it wasn't open, but still I thought that was a bit strange, so maybe we are annoying enough:oops:

You certainly may request a table size. It's possible that you could be assigned a 4 top for just your group with out the request, but, if it's important, I'd suggest you make the request.

Just give DCL a call and have the request placed on your reservation. If you used a TA to make the reservation, they have to make the call.

As I said, the largest "regular" table is 8. The one cruise we were a party of 3, we were seated with a family of 5. Not a perfect match, but we had a 19 year old and there were a 16 & 15 year old in the other group. And we had a great time.

Wouldn't one rotation be in Animators twice?? On a 4 night cruise

Yes, but that night would usually be Pirate night. And it really wouldn't be fair to the other cruisers to have the one seating have a show that no one else would get.

That's why the 7 night cruise is the minimum necessary to have everyone see 2 shows. A 6 night cruise (if they had them) would still have part of the passenger load missing that second night show due to the Pirate night.

We are a large, multi generaltional family of 11 - how do they typically handle large groups?
