Dining Plan Speculation

It costs to change websites. Instead of taking that part out and having to put it back in, what’s happening is what the site normally does is go to that dining page and then they changed it so it automatically redirects you to the next page but there’s a 5 second lag since it wasn’t completely taken out. At least that’s what I think unless people have tried this 6 months ago and it didn’t happen??

We usually book with free dining and have decided to go ahead and take advantage of the credit offer for next year (perks of being in the UK for once). While booking we did ask about the prospect of the dining plan coming back and was told that this is the dining plan for next year but the expectation is to have something more akin to the the original DDP from 2023. I think they're being cautious still as not all resorts are open and the last 12 months + have shown that anything can happen that can make you have to shut everything down again.

We usually would have the standard dining plan but it is a lot of food and we probably only eat that much because we feel we have to with the credits we have to use up. Yes we like a few signature dining experiences and the odd character meal but most of the time we'd be happy to have a couple of snacks, share a meal or even get a kids QS meal. Using one of the many online DP calculators we put in the meals we had on our last trip and worked out what the actual monetary cost was - and then taking out the $684 dollars we're getting in credit, we have a rough idea of the maximum it would cost if we ate like that again, which I know we won't! With the credit being on a separate gift card, we know we can use that to pay for the more expensive meals we're planning on having and then just use cash to pay for everything else. Will be interesting to see how it goes down in January though - I'll be keeping a keen eye out!

I saw where Disney is now allowing for a LAYAWAY program for booking a Disney vacation. It seems to me that with this in place, it would be perfect timing to announce the re start of the Dining program. This way the vacation will be totally paid for when guest arrives. Maybe this is just wishful thinking.

I saw something about this yesterday but it's really the exact same as booking a package already. If there are any differences let me know.

I saw a DFB video yesterday that mentioned that a 50th anniversary offer currently being made available to UK guest includes a dining "credit", and the folks at DFB were wondering if that was possibly Disney's first baby step towards bringing back a dining plan.

Yep as I mentioned above, the agent we spoke to said that this was the plan for 2022 and then 2023 will have something better matched to the previous DDP. The advertising for the credit is confusing a lot of people though because it's tired depending on where you stay and how long you stay for. And there are a lot of room types that are excluded from the offer which was also confusing for some people I was speaking to.

Per room per night, amount varies by resort and some room types resorts are excluded.

Sounds more like a room discount, paid as a dining gift card instead of a cash reduction
Which is rather brilliant because a room discount doesn’t necessarily keep the guest onsite. But, a dining gift card will.

(But $68 / night doesn’t make much of a dent on deluxe rooms...)
