Diet? What Diet? 8 nights on the DxDP with pics!...Complete! Narcoosee's, 8/7

Now here comes probably the most unimportant question given the fact that your boyfriend has just proposed at CRT but here it is anyway,

Did you not get to order the set dessert? obviously the special dessert you got was special and would satify the dessert craving but if you feeling really greedy do you get both? can they box up the buckle?

see im thinking that my Dbf will do something similar but I really have my eye on the cream cheese buckle? that makes me a bad person doesn't it???

Great updates, we love LTT for lunch too. It's normally pretty quiet and the foods always been good. I've never tried the pot roast there but it certainly sounds good from your description!

Oh and that cake looks soooo good!!!! Yeah I just looked at the menu, we are so going there for lunch.

Yay! It's my favorite at MK, and then it's not too far to Splash Mountain after lunch :goodvibes.

Unimportant? You're saying this to a girl that regularly eats two desserts with her meal at Disney? Oh the desserts matter too! ;). We only got the slipper, I didn't ask for the buckle too, but I'm sure if you asked they would give it to you. It doesn't make you a bad person at all to want more dessert. :)

When I get two desserts I still make DF put his fork in it so it looks like he ate it, can't have the server thinking I'm a little piggy :lmao:

It's really good, not at all dry and good flavor. If only it still had the fried onions on top...

First off: Congratulations!!

Second: loving the report....haven't made it all the way through but hope to tonight!!

I'm so excited to try lunch at LTT. We loved dinner with the colonial characters. Can't wait to try the pot roast!

Thanks so much! :goodvibes Glad you're enjoying the report, it's been fun writing it!

I think it's even better than dinner. I think now that they don't have characters anymore at dinner they should at least make the menu similar to the lunch menu. It's really tasty!

This was our first time at California Grill, we had a 9:20 pm reservation so that we could see the fireworks too, since you can't go to CG for the first time and not see fireworks right?

We took the elevator up to the restaurant and were given a pager, we sat in the lounge area to wait for a table. The lounge area had a nice view of the MK and if you didn't have reservations I think you could come up here and have a meal anyway, that's at least what it seemed like many people were doing. DF went to the bar to get a beer, but the bartender had been a bit smart-alecky with him, so he was a little annoyed. :confused3. DF looks pretty young so I guess the bartender was giving him a hard time and thought he was being funny. DF did not like it one bit.

Luckily our table was ready and we had a seat right by the window! It was also decorated with Mickey confetti, I love that!

Our server asked if we wanted our appetizers to come out after the fireworks, but we said it would be okay if they came out when they were ready.

I of course had to have one of the famous flat breads. So I ordered the three cheese flatbread, I think, sorry the menu on allearsnet is pretty old.
It was amazingly delicious! Definitely big enough for a few people to share, and if we had some way of heating it up again I may have had it wrapped up. It came out during the fireworks and I was a little too engrossed in the fireworks and ended up getting some of the green pesto....on my white dress . I knew there was a reason I don't usually wear white! Luckily our server saw and brought over some club soda for me to get the stain out and that worked pretty well.

DF got the goat cheese ravioli. He discovered that he loves raviolis after the one he had at the Brown Derby. He devoured this in like 10 seconds! I was going to ask for a taste, but too late! He said it was awesome.
IMG_0375.jpg

For our entrees I ordered the Seared Pork Tenderloin - with goat cheese polenta, button mushrooms and zinfandel glaze. Wow this was awesome! The pork was so tender, and that goat cheese polenta was amazing! I could have just eaten a big dish of that!
IMG_0376.jpg

DF of course got a steak. Filet of Beef - with Cheesy Idaho Potato Mash, Buttered Asparagus, and and teriyaki barbecue sauce. He really liked this, I tried a bite and didn't care for the sauce on the steak so I was glad I went with the pork.

At this point we were exhausted, we had gotten up for Rope Drop at MK and then had an engagement photo shoot that afternoon, so there wasn't much rest time today, and we were really feeling it, but I had to have dessert and DF didn't want anything so I got two!

Dessert #1: Had to be the Valrhona chocolate cake and I think it was served with a cherry ice cream. This was a really good lava cake. Nice and gooey in the center. I really liked the ice cream that came with it.
IMG_0378.jpg

But the dessert winner was Dessert #2!

Unfortunately I have no idea what this was called but it was some type of peach cake, and you can't really see much of it from the picture. :confused3. But it was the celebration dessert and it was soooooo good. It was nice and light and creamy, the flavor wasn't overwhelming and it was just perfect. I should also say that I can get a good lava cake back home and I've even made them in the past, so while that dessert was good, it wasn't as special. This was like nothing I had ever had and was so delicious, a great summer dessert!

We both really liked California Grill but I think next time we would make an earlier reservation considering we both almost fell asleep at the table :rotfl2:! I think I would rather eat there when it was still light out and you could see all of MK. I also am not a huge fan of fireworks outside of MK since they aren't centered on the Castle and that kind of bothers me, but it was fun to do once. We will definitely be back for the food! :thumbsup2

Lately, I've read a lot of reviews that said the Wave was just as good or better than California Grill, and I don't think that is the case at all. The Wave is very good for a 1 ts credit but we found California Grill to be significantly better (as it should be) and thought the menu was more appealing. So if you are considering one or the other and have the extra ts credit, California Grill is the way to go!

Thanks for the California Grill review! I'm really looking forward to our CG ADR in August and this made me even more pumped! :cool1:

Plus, we're hoping to have our post-wedding dinner at CG, so it's nice to see pictures of some of the choices...because DF and I can only try so much when we go in August!

Wow, your reviews are so great - congratulations on your engagement. I am loving the sound (and look) of both Yachtsman and Cali Grill. Wonder if I can persuade DH we need a child-free night out at either in October :confused3

I could eat that pork and polenta every single day it was that incredible!

As for the filet, it would have been perfect if we asked for the sauce on the side...it totally overpowered the dish!

Awesome reviews!

Great reviews! We also had Ricardo when we went to Yachtsman and held conversation with him as well! We got a picture of us with him. I agree that I would feel a little funny to ask him to stand and smile for a picture by himself, but I'm sure he would do it. Next time we're at Yachtsman's, we'll be sure to ask for him again as a server (if that's possible, of course.)

CA grill review is wonderful! :thumbsup2 I've had my eyes on the ravioli from a couple reviews I've read and this just adds fuel to the fire.

The food was awesome, you'll have a great time. Aww, congrats on your upcoming Wedding!

Thanks so much! :goodvibes They were both great restaurants! I hope you get to check them out. I have seen children in both restaurants so you could always bring them. ;)

Thanks! Actually I knew I had to try the pork after reading one of your reviews! And boy am I glad I did! It was phenomenal! Definitely agree with the sauce being too strong. DF liked it, but I would not have been happy if I ordered that.

Yay! You had Ricardo too! Isn't he the best? I wish we had gotten a picture! You know, when we were there talking to him for so long and the whole place was empty we should have just asked. You can definitely request him, and hopefully he's working that night! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the California Grill review...the Raviolis looks yummy

DF said it was amazing and that he loves raviolis now. I wanted to try it but he practically swallowed it whole! :lmao:

Thanks! I've heard it's pretty tasty. ;)

This was a much needed rest day and we got to sleep in for once! :woohoo:

We took the monorail over to the Poly. This was the first time I was ever at this resort and it was really cute. I liked the fountains in the lobby and how they give out leis to the guests. We checked in and had to wait a few minutes for a table. We had a nice booth, but it was a little strange since it wasn't really in our servers section and there was a large pole so he couldn't really see us as well as he could the other tables. So drink refills were a little slower than maybe they would have been otherwise but it was fine.

No macadamia nut bread with lunch :sad1:, I had heard how good it was so I was hoping, but no dice.

I got an ice tea and DF got a diet coke, we boh ordered Pot Stickers - wok-seared duck dumplings with creamy ginger-soy sauce as our appetizers. DF loves potstickers, so he was really excited about this.
IMG_0382.jpg

I have to confess that even though my mom is Chinese, I have never learned how to use chopsticks! :confused3 It's really awkward because we always need to request a fork. The potstickers came with chopsticks and there were nice little instructions on the back, so now I know how!
IMG_0383.jpg

Now I am pretty picky about potstickers since my mom makes some great ones, and these ones were FANTASTIC! The duck meat is really moist and even DF loved it (he had never had duck before). The creamy ginger sauce was so tasty, and even the seaweed salad was good. I cleaned my plate. The only downside is this is a relatively small serving, so it is not for sharing, I actually could have gone with a few more potstickers, I'm used to eating a LOT of potstickers when my mom makes them :lmao:.

For my main course I got the Polynesian Plate lunch, it was a fried chicken cutlet with a coconut mango sauce served with rice and macaroni salad. I was a little unsure about this at first but it was great! The chicken is coated in panko crumbs so it's nice and crispy. The sauce was good and not overpowering at all. The rice was a little plain, it was just plain jasmine rice, they probably could jazz that part up a little. I really liked the macaroni salad though! I thought the portion size was good, it was enough that you were satisfied and you were definitely able to finish it but still have room for dessert!
IMG_0384.jpg

DF got the Island Chicken Sandwich - grilled chicken breast with bacon, Swiss cheese, curry mango mayonnaise, fried onions on a Kaiser served with chips. He thought this was very good, but he liked my chicken better. He doesn't like the onion straws so I got to eat those, yum! He said the chips were good but some were too oily.
IMG_0385.jpg

Now it was onto dessert and I heard so much about the fantastic desserts at Kona so I didn't know what to do. And DF wanted to order a dessert this time, what nerve! :lmao:

So I wasn't sure if I was going to go with the Kiluea torte or the coconut tart. I decided on the Coconut Cream Kiki tart since I think the kiluea tort is essentially a lava cake and I had one of those the night before. It doesn't look like much, but I loved this! It was probably one of the best desserts I've ever had. There was a layer of fluffy coconut cream on top of a custard type layer all in a flaky buttery tart shell. It was so light and fresh tasting, I probably could have eaten five of them!
IMG_0386.jpg

DF discovered that he likes creme brulee, so he got the Banana Chocolate Creme Brulee. As you know, DF is not much of a dessert person but he absolutely loved this. Ironically he did not really like the banana on top, so I got to eat that and I thought it was great! Especially with some coconut cream! He especially liked the chocolate layer on the bottom and proclaimed it the best dessert ever!
IMG_0387.jpg

So Kona was a surprise hit! We will definitely be back again and I still want to try breakfast!

BTW DF said we could have a Disney Wedding!:banana::banana: So I'm thinking of Kona as a possible farewell brunch location!

Mmmmm! Those potstickers were one of my favorite things on one of my last trips! For a dinner appetizer I believe they gave you six instead of 4... I still ended up eating all of them and could have eaten another serving...SO GOOD! And mmm...that banana chocolate creme brulee was fabulous too. Ohhh now my mouth is watering and I can't wait for my bday dinner there!

Congrats on the engagement! You wrote about it so calmly haha-- I'd be so frantic!
Subscribing-- can't wait to read the rest!

Wow! Kona looks delicious!!!!!!!!!!

Mmmmm, that coconut tart looks so good, and the Brulee, but i really want the Kona Kone and I know DF will get the cheesecake. Do you think I could have 3 desserts as opposed to 3 regular courses?! :lmao:
