Diet? What Diet? 8 nights on the DxDP with pics!...Complete! Narcoosee's, 8/7

I have to say that one of the things I loved about staying at the GF was having access to great restaurants like Citricos and Narcoosees and being able to walk back to your room afterwards, no trying to figure out how to use Disney transportation to get back to your hotel or paying for a cab. :thumbsup2

We went to Citricos for the first time last year and loved it, the restaurant is so pretty with all the windows looking over the GF. This time we got a seat right by the window where we could see the fireworks! Lol, by the end of the trip, DF was so disillusioned with the fireworks because we saw them like four times. It went from "cool" to "not again!". :lmao:

I started with the Cheese Course Trio - Lemon ricotta from Central Florida, Casciotta D'Urbino from Le Marche, Italy, and Forme D'Ambert from Auvergne, France. I really enjoy a good cheese plate and last time I had the arancini (which are delicious) but they were a little too heavy. I loved the cheese plate and I think they probably had the best things to accompany the cheese from the cheese plates I've had.

I also liked how it came with a card that explained what all the cheeses were. My favorite was the second cheese, it was served with honeycomb and it was incredible. I could have eaten just that! It was a perfect way to start the meal, savory but not too heavy. :thumbsup2

DF got a salad, I don't think the Allears menu is right so I'm not sure what kind it was. He liked it, but he likes salads that are just lettuce and not much else. :rotfl:

I never know what to get as my entree, it seems like both times we've gone here I'm already a little over steak. Our server recommended the veal shank, so that's what I got. Braised Veal Shank - Carrot-Potato Puree, Roasted Vegetables, and Toasted Citrus Gremoloda. It was very tasty and so tender, if you just hit your fork against it the meat shattered off the bone. But it does have a taste similar to a pot roast, which I wasn't quite expecting, and I think I would have liked a steak better. Great dish, but just not what I really wanted that night.

DF got, what else?, the filet mignon. He could eat filet mignon everyday of the week and still be super excited to eat it again! He loves it. So he got the Filet Jardiniere - Oak-grilled Filet of Beef with House-cured Vegetables, Quattro Formaggi Crushed Potatoes, and Veal Glacé. He loved it and that's what I should have gotten too. He says after Jiko and Yachtsman, it's the best steak.

Dessert time. Last time I had the lemon cheesecake and wasn't crazy about it. I'm not really a cheesecake person, that's more like my 'there's nothing else I like on the menu' dessert. So I got the angel food cake with fresh berries. I wasn't expecting much, but WOW! I absolutely loved this! It was light and the berries were nice and ripe. The cake was soaked in some type of sauce, it was delicious! I should also say that the week we went was incredibly hot, so I think that's why I gravitated towards lighter food.
IMG_0464.jpg

DF got the trio of gelato. He really liked the raspberry and the coffee. He didn't care for the butter pecan, but I ate that along with the white chocolate swizzle stick and they were both delicious! He just doesn't like butter pecan.

When our desserts came out they shut down the lights in the restaurant and then the music from wishes was piped in. This was our third night seeing them, so DF didn't really care. I didn't know they even did that here, so it was a nice surprise.

We really enjoy Citricos and will definitely be back sometime. If you haven't tried it I would recommend you give it a try! I always feel like Citricos is a lesser known signature, but the food and service are both very good!

Wow, Citricos looks lovely. Shame about the Croque Monsieur at Chefs - it looked nice though. Remy is so cute :)

Thanks for the review! I am dining at Citrico's for the first time on my upcoming birthday and found this very informative. I hadn't realized that they pipe in the Wishes music so that will be a treat for us. Looks like you had a great meal. I love cheese plates and light desserts, too!

Thanks for following along.

Cool! It's called Brasserie Cassis, it's on South Oyster Bay road in Plainview in the Plainview shopping center. They are open for brunch, lunch and dinner. We've only gone for dinner but everything we have gotten has been amazing. There's even some nice outdoor seating which I prefer because the main dining room can get a little loud.
Thanks. My DH has been trying to get me to try it for a while. Now that I know it is good, we will have to go there.

Just read through the whole thread & I am drooling over your great reviews & pics. :goodvibes

Congratulations on your engagement & such a beautiful ring! :lovestruc Happy wedding planning.

I just read all eleven pages in one sitting!

I'm loving the reviews, especially Citricos. I'm eating there for the first time in September, we're celebrating my parents' 28th anniversary. I can't wait!

Great job, and congratulations!

Thanks for the review on the Kona Cafe! I am thinking of doing our reception lunch here after our 10am wedding. It sounds like you loved it!

Congratulations to you both... and I'm so glad you are having a Disney wedding!

Your reviews are fantastic- detailed writing and excellent photos.

Citricos is hands down the next restaurant that we are planning on dining at. I had no idea that it also had a view of the fireworks. How was the view though? Was it partially blocked by trees or GF resort buildings?

Thanks! We think the food there is great! The view is slightly obscured, but you can see most of the big fireworks. I wouldn't go out of the way to see them there, but it was a pleasant surprise! :thumbsup2

Aww,another Disbride! :goodvibes. We really liked it and I thought the food was wonderful. I think it will be a perfect post-ceremony lunch! :) Thank you, I'm so excited too, I've been dreaming of a Disney wedding and now I get to have one! I feel so lucky. :lovestruc

Glad I kept you entertained! Thanks for following along. It's been really fun writing the reviews, it lets me live out my fantasy of being a food critic!

Congrats to your parents! That is awesome! I think you all will really like it.

Their cheese plate was seriously awesome! Oh man, I wish I had some of that honeycomb right now! :) Have a great time!

Thanks. My DH has been trying to get me to try it for a while. Now that I know it is good, we will have to go there.

It is so good! From the outside it doesn't look like much, I've noticed it before because it was always crowded, but we finally tried it a few months ago and now DF wants to go pretty much every weekend!

Thank you! :goodvibes I love my ring so much, it's hard to keep from staring at it, sometimes I almost walk into people at work! :lmao: The wedding planning has been going great, but that's why I've been MIA with these reviews, I'll have a new one coming up shortly! ;)

This was our last full day at Disney. :sad1: We had planned to spend the day at DHS, but the week had been so hot, that we didn't even want to go to the park, so we decided to hang out at the GF for our last day.

I woke up before DF, so I decided to go to the Poly for some shopping since aside from Basin White, the GF stores were pretty lacking.

I took the Monorail over and decided I had to try....A DOLE WHIP! Well I've heard so much about these, and I wasn't expecting much. I like pineapple, but I'm not a huge pineapple lover, so I was skeptical. At first I couldn't figure out how it worked either, but then I saw the sign that you had to buy a cup first. :thumbsup2

Captain Cooks is way better than Gaspie's at the GF, I don't understand why Gaspie's is so small! I really liked the variety they had at CC and all the seating!

Here it is, in all it's glory! I got the pineapple vanilla swirl
IMG_0470.jpg

Can I say that everything people say about this is true? This was AMAZING! So refreshing and just sweet enough. It was a great little treat! I loved the way the vanilla and pineapple blended together. If you have never had a dole whip you need to get one the next time you go to Disney, okay? Promise?

After that delightful treat :cloud9: I went into the shops at the Poly and got some souvenirs, then I took the monorail back to meet DF for lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe, but that's another review for another day!

Great reviews! I love all the detail you gave...I just read all 12 pages in one sitting. :lmao: You actually have me thinking of adding some of the places you went to that I wasn't even considering. Congrats on the engagement! How romantic

fab piccies :thumbsup2 loving your review. the photo's with the Princesses are so cute!

I just read everything. DS decided 5 am was an appropriate time to wake up on a Sunday. :headache:

Congrats on your engagement. :bride: I always hoped DH would propose in Disney, but he did not. Where are you going to get married at in Disney?

All the food looks amazing. We did the Quick Service plan when we were there in May, but for our trip in December/January we are doing the regular dining plan. So, I have to come up with 9 TS meals and believe it or not, I'm having a tough time. I loved your review of Chefs de France, so I think I'll have to talk DH into that one. We'll be there for DS's 3rd birthday and our 5 year anniversary.:goodvibes

Can't wait to hear the rest. Congrats again!

Wow, thanks so much for taking the time and effort to produce such a complete dining review. You did an excellent job with the photos as well. I am a photographer but just can't seem to make myself take photos of the food. I feel full from reading your report!

Wow, great report. I am eating at most of these places for the first time so, thanks for your reviews.

Congrats on your engagement and wedding in Disney. I am from Long Island too. I had a huge wedding planned at John Anthony's on the Water for 250 people and than one day just decided it was just too much, so we got married at Disney. At first my MIL was not to happy but after the wedding even she admitted it was the best thing we could have done. That was 15 years ago and people still talk about our wedding. Good luck with all the planning.

GREAT report! Loved it!

Congrats on your engagement- you know we'll all want a full Disney wedding report!

And I am so stoked to see they have the swirled Dole whips at Capt. Cooks. I know where I'm going on our non-park days!!!

all your reviews were awesome- I'm hungry now!

Thanks! I'm glad to help! That's why I love reading dining reports, it makes you want to try places you wouldn't normally consider. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much! Yes, DF did a very good job! I had all the girls at work jealous! ;)

great update.

nice update! the dole whip does look delicious!

Thanks! It really was soo good, now I understand the hype!

fab piccies :thumbsup2 loving your review. the photo's with the Princesses are so cute!

Thanks so much! I was worried that it might be weird but I always secretly wanted to go to a Princess breakfast, but they were great and made us feel comfortable. :goodvibes

Lol, yes I understand the 5 am thing, that's when our cat sees fit to wake us up pretty much every morning. :sad2:

Thank you, it really was perfect for us. One of my coworkers when they found out went home and told her husband that he was lucky she didn't know about Disney proposals back then! But her proposal story was sweet too, and it only needs to be special to two people. :lovestruc

We are hoping for the Wedding Pavilion and to have the reception at the Grand Floridian. Disney won't confirm the ceremony until 12 months before and the reception until 8 months, so we're keeping our fingers crossed!

Congrats on your 5 year anniversary! If you go to Chefs, get the flat bread, it is sooo good!

Thanks for following along! It's all help to my new camera, I got a canon this year and it really takes pics that are soo much better than my old sony. Lol, it is a little weird at first, and some people will think you're crazy. :rotfl2:

I hope you enjoy them! I think the food at Disney is great! Thank you, I'm really excited and very into planning mode now. Aww, glad to hear it worked out for another Disney Bride. That's exactly what I think, a wedding on LI would be very nice, but a Disney wedding will be magical and memorable! Luckily our families have been great about it so far!:goodvibes

Thank you! Oh you'll get it! In fact, I started my planning journal already, and I definitely plan to do a wedding report. The dole whips were really fantastic! I'm a little sad to have missed out on them all these years!
