DHS Sorcerer's Hat to be removed

I respectfully disagree. Can you provide a link to any credible source to back this up?

Why I disagree -

- Disney just does not remove important items and then rebuild them elsewhere on Disney property. Are they sentimental? Yes. They saved some 20,000 Leagues water and added it to Under the Sea water upon opening. In Winnie the Pooh is a picture of Mr. Toad handing the deed to Owl. But to remove something and they put it back up elsewhere on property - no.

- The permit to take out the hat has one description "Demolition". Disney does not use this term lightly. It does not say dismantle or removal, it says demolition.

- Have you seen the Hat lately? It was not in great shape which is no surprise since it was not supposed to be up this long. Lots of rust spots bubbling up under the paint all over it, especially the back side by the theater. It was going to need major restorative work.

- Have you been to Studios to see the beginning of the demolition? They are treating it as a demo......

It was built in horizontal sections, stacked and bolted together. They are removing by working in these approximate sections but they are not upbolting it (to preserve) but are cutting it. The cuts are not on the seams, they are uneven, working as fast as possible for removal.

Not only are they cutting it horizontally they are cutting it up vertically within each section into smaller pieces. If they were preserving it they would not do the vertical cuts. It anything it seems these vertical cuts creating smaller chunks is to insure it is demolished and not usable before it ever leaves the park.

All the cuts are uneven and jagged and done without care. The edges show bending of the metal (can opener effect), essentially making it impossible to put it back together.

If there were any chance of the Hat reappearing it would have to be a whole new hat and that just makes no sense.

Nice to see facts. :thumbsup2

So does anyone know if the hat will still be in place Easter of this year (2015)???? I am heading there for the first time and would love to get a picture with the hat before it is gone!

The hat is already partially demolished Id say it will be gone by easter

Nice pix - thanks for posting.

Have you seen the hat at DLR?

It's very similar, but very, very much smaller. Perhaps a twin of that hat will adorn the new construction...?

Also noting the "Sims Crane" on the boom -- some companies will do anything to advertise a game title! ;)

I think jenna is saying if she were in charge it WOULD be destroyed.

I wish Jenna was in charge.

So basically what you are saying is a wrecking ball and 20-30 college kids would have the same result but in a fraction of the time. ;)

Add some dents to the theater, some chunks of missing walkway in the plaza and surely at least one of them leaving via ambulance ..... but yes. :thumbsup2

Just put up a giant scrim to block the theater. Swing the wrecking ball towards Superstar Television and Commissary Lane. And, as far as one of the college kids leaving in an ambulance goes, well, that's a pretty normal thing at Vista Way so no one would notice.;)

Hey hey hey - my DD was banished to Vista Way this semester, huge blow after living in Commons last semester. Don't rub salt in our wound. :sad1:

Is VW where they put the more "mature" CP'ers?

Lucky duck to get the Commons! I was in Chatham and was reminded about how happy I was to be there instead of Vista Way whenever I'd hang out at my friends' apartments there. I WISH I could have had a place in The Commons.

She said their apartment is freshly done - that was a surprise based on friends last semester. She got a 2 bed 4 person unit, what she had last semester but actually had wanted a bigger unit this time (helps with the randoms odds). She does have a friend in bedroom with her which is great. BUT the hardest is going to be giving up that in unit laundry!!!! She has always had one in her apartments last four years and going to a common laundry room is going to be a new experience, and probably not a good one.

My apartment at college had a washer and dryer in the unit so when I moved to Chatham for my college program, it was an adjustment. I was used to a common laundry room when in the dorms, but my dorm room was directly across from the laundry room. No big deal, really. I hated having to lug my laundry across the facility to wash it. But, one good things about Vista is the Walgreens that is right there. Pretty handy for ducking over to get some snacks or toiletries, especially if you don't have a car.

Haven't yet figured out how to link to a conversation. (The individual in question is, though, extremely credible.)

I love that idea! Unfortunately, the space that the Hat currently occupies will probably return to being nothingness. While I love the idea of having "true theming" restored to Hollywood Boulevard, I think having a clear icon is more important. Considering the Backlot Tour is now closed, you can't even see the park's new icon (the Earful Tower) from inside the park for the most part anymore.

Is the individual in question saying *this specific* hat is returning during the expansion, or that the expansion will have "a sorcerer's hat".

Given the pictures posted, it seems like if there is a hat in the new expansion, it will be a new one - not the one they're demolishing right now

Here's what I don't get. They seem to like having special events now that require a central gathering spot with a stage (Frozen stuff, villains parties, etc.). I didn't mind the hat but wanted that ugly stage to go from the moment it went up.

I wonder what they plan to do for those events now when they want a central visible spot to host events.

And here's where I think that the people who are happy with the view of the theater returning are going to be disappointed. Because, while I have no inside info, the Frozen events on that stage were so popular that I have no doubt that it will be back and probably bigger. I honestly hope that I'm wrong... but I will not be surprised to be right, not at all.

They need a retractable stage...one that can pop up out of the ground and then sink back down when not needed. Wishful thinking...

That would only be possible if the park was built up higher like MK is. Dig a little down here in Florida and you're hitting water

They could do a low stage with a screen that can be raised up behind it when shows are actually being put on. The rest of the time it would just be a raised platform, perhaps with some low plants around it. That would serve the purpose and stay low profile most of the time.
