DHS Sorcerer's Hat to be removed

I hope it's done by June! Bringing a whole bunch of newbies and would rather them experience the old ride than no ride.
The articles I've seen say that the changes should be complete by spring 2015. Hopefully that will work out well for your June trip.

I think all likely hood is it will end up buried somewhere on property like the mirror from the 50 years of magic celebration (for disneyland's 50th) the wand from EPCOT, and many other things no longer in the parks like the subs from 20,00 leagues etc.

Are those items really buried somewhere on property?

So does anyone know if the hat will still be in place Easter of this year (2015)???? I am heading there for the first time and would love to get a picture with the hat before it is gone!

Demolition on the hat began today. Pictures of construction walls up around the hat were posted yesterday.

I'd bet the hat is gone by next week. It doesn't take nearly as long to take it down as it does to construct it. Guessing the concrete work around the area will take longer than the actual dismantling of the hat.

BTW, I believe it was President Reagan who said, "Mr. Iger, tear down this hat!"

. The memo subs are hanging around. Saw one a few years ago outside a window during the backstage living with the land tour. In 2013 there was one on the course for the tower of terror 10 mile race.

that was prop that used to be in the living seas que apparently. The only one that still can be see from the public that was used in the ride is sunk off of castaway cay.

See, if I was in charge, this would go much faster. One night, I'd get myself a wrecking ball and swing that sucker. Then, I'd have a bunch of college kids pick up the pieces all night for minimum wage. Next day: landscape. Bang, I'm done.

Remember, it's not being destroyed, it's going into storage to return as part of the park's expansion. So you can't just unload on it and pick up the pieces.

That's just a rumor, at best. I bet we never see the hat again.

I think jenna is saying if she were in charge it WOULD be destroyed.

I wish Jenna was in charge.

Haven't read the whole thing so don't know if this had been mentioned so sorry if it has..... We bought a 2015 calendar while there on December. Care to guess what is featured on January? The hat. Ironic or did they have the removal in plan back when the calendar went too print and it is a tribute?

I'll wait and see, but I never trust Disney when it comes to their plans. They tend to get tricky and end up completely different.
To be fair, the plans for the hat are part of Phase II, and the full sign-off and budget have only been approved for Phase I. Meaning that things may indeed change, but for the moment there are actual *specific* plans for the hat.

I'm very much looking forward to the announcement of the plans for the Studios, which could come before Spring.

I respectfully disagree. Can you provide a link to any credible source to back this up?

Why I disagree -

- Disney just does not remove important items and then rebuild them elsewhere on Disney property. Are they sentimental? Yes. They saved some 20,000 Leagues water and added it to Under the Sea water upon opening. In Winnie the Pooh is a picture of Mr. Toad handing the deed to Owl. But to remove something and then put it back up elsewhere on property - no.

- The permit to take out the hat has one description "Demolition". Disney does not use this term lightly. It does not say dismantle or removal, it says demolition.

- Have you seen the Hat lately? It was not in great shape which is no surprise since it was not supposed to be up this long. Lots of rust spots bubbling up under the paint all over it, especially the back side by the theater. It was going to need major restorative work.

- Have you been to Studios to see the beginning of the demolition? They are treating it as a demo......

It was built in horizontal sections, stacked and bolted together. They are removing by working in these approximate sections but they are not upbolting it (to preserve) but are cutting it. The cuts are not on the seams, they are uneven, working as fast as possible for removal.

Not only are they cutting it horizontally they are cutting it up vertically within each section into smaller pieces. If they were preserving it they would not do the vertical cuts. It anything it seems these vertical cuts creating smaller chunks is to insure it is demolished and not usable before it ever leaves the park.

All the cuts are uneven and jagged and done without care. The edges show bending of the metal (can opener effect), essentially making it impossible to put it back together.

If there were any chance of the Hat reappearing it would have to be a whole new hat and that just makes no sense.

These pictures are from yesterday -
