deathly afraid of "drops" on coasters... which ones would be okay?

The biggest is actually 18 feet, which at a speed around 30 mph is a lot to someone who does not like that falling sensation. I start getting that around 15 feet I have found, so Space does not bother me much, but I wouldn't want anyone else to read your post and think it is a kiddie ride. Even Barnstormer has more than a 6 foot drop.

I know people who LOVE the falling feeling think Space and others like it are baby roller coasters, but I am sure there are things you hate that would make some of us snicker as well. Yeah, WDW roller coasters are nothing compared to some of the thriller park ones, but you want see me there either. For most of us, it is not really a FEAR. but a physical sensation that is not pleasant.

You don't take the drops at 30mph, though. It's like 6ft by the time the cars actually get onto the hills. It's not bad at all. I also hate the sensation, but Space Mountain is nothing you can't experience on a hilly road in a fast moving car.

Seeing the tiny hills on a lights on POV video could help assuage any apprehension.

30 mph----> 6 feet, interesting conversion:rotfl: Again, TO YOU it's not bad at all. People who have fear of drops tend to listen to those who have the same problem, not those who minimize the fear. I think for those who LIKE the stomach drop feeling, Space is nothing, but to those who don't like it, it is a lot more noticeable.

Yay! My 1st ever reply!

I can identify with your...um...can we call it issues? Which is why I felt compelled to reply. I too can't stand drops in rides, but I have it worse then you. I can't stand anything that isn't a dark ride. I won't even do soarin because of my vertigo.

I would HIGHLY recommend you research the rides via YouTube POV videos. Those have been a great help to me so I can tell which rides are for me and which aren't. Though my general rule is that anything with a seat belt needed is not for me. Those videos will give you a great insight into the intensity of the ride and let's you prepare for what's coming if you decide to brave one.

I know a lot of people here have been nice about the whole people who don't do thrill rides thing but my personal experience is that they can't understand why there are people like me around. I got tired of being made fun of or even being blatantly lied to as part of failed pranks to get me on rides I wouldn't be able to take. Thus the videos have become a God-send for me.

In any case, you're talking to someone that didnt ride SM for 25 years because of the "drops" and still won't do Splash or ToT. I'm only minimizing it because it truly isn't bad.

I am EXACTLY like this too. I absolutely hated ToT. DH is the thrill seeker in the family, so I said I would go on with him and I'll never do it again. If DD is a dare devil when she gets older, he will have someone to go on rides with instead of me! I just sit in the sun while he does single rider on EE and RnRC.

As for everything else, I am willing to do these as a PP said:
Big Thunder Mountain
Space Mountain (first time I rode this, the lights weren't totally off so it wasn't bad!)
Barnstormer (I'm tall so it's not the most ideal thing for me, but it's not bad)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Dinosaur
Maelstrom
Test Track

Someone mentioned Mission Space. I get car sick, and this definitely flared that up! And my sister and I did the GREEN version. Big baby alert, aisle one!

I'm not a fan of huge drops. I can do EE,because it is only 80 feet, and it's banked at the end. pretty much anything under 150 feet is doable for me.

Space Mountain isn't scary drop wise but it's jerky.

I haven't been to Universal yet, so I can't tell about those..

You're right, Space Mountain isn't scary at all, just rough. I have actually gotten braver, the older I get. Once you tackle one ride that's "scary" to you, you learn that often, your mind makes things out to be much worse than they are. Even ToT isn't that bad for me now.

I used to hate the dropping sensation, but then I learned to tighten up my abs/diaphragm and exhale during the drop (yelling or screaming counts), and that uncomfortable "stomach-in-my-throat" feeling went away. I love drops now.
