DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Morning all. It was a ghost town this weekend at Church with less than 50% attendance at each Mass. I know the Biship suspended the obligation, but it didn't feel right for me to skip.

But, someone came in to use anti-bacterial wipes at the Church to clean and prevent the virus. I didn't have the heart to tell them.

I remember you saying that. Sorry to hear she is going to have a short season. Can she still compete at the club level?

Maybe. The club has a joint ownership with the city. So, if the city closes parks/ events, then she couldn't. USTA cancelled upcoming matches. She still can't beat me, so I can play outdoor if it warms up.

Huh. How noticeable was it?

It was animatronix with a strobe light. It was cool though. I'm sure the animated scene prior enhanced it.

Definitely tired of the constant rehash of the same news. Stayed home from church just in case I was still carrying the virus I had. Here in KY we had a new case of COVID-19, over closer to Norm, and the individual refused to self-isolate so the County Sheriff is now parked outside their house. Whatever happened to common decency and concern for your neighbor? No big plans today other than working on the tax returns.

90 minutes away from me. He left hospital AMA and has been calling news outlet to complain about the governor putting police in front of the house. Always love it when out local idiots make the news.

Morning Guys, anyone need any hand sanitizer? I here these is some guy Tennessee with about 17,000 bottles that he has been trying to sell but all the big sites blocked him. You can probably get a good deal from him pretty soon.

Read that article. He said Amazon blocked him for selling with increased prices. His argument was that he was a free market entrepreneur, helping to get supplies to people in New York by selling a bottle for $50. But, that wasn't proce gouging as it was Amazon fees.

My house is ground zero for extreme panic versus not panicking. My wife is at the extreme panic mode—constantly buying more food than we need, wants to have tons of cash on hand from when the banking system crashes, and because she’s afraid, she personally attacks me for trying to have as normal of a life as possible. We pretty much fight every day. Every time I try to have a rational conversation, she gets vile and the insults from her start flying because she’s scared and already has major depression and anxiety from preexisting issues.

Plus, she’s from Ireland and her family back in Ireland are panicking, so that just fans the flames of panic within the four walls of our house. The 24/7 media panic is not helping. People buying out the stores makes her panic even more.

I’m not sure my marriage survives coronavirus.

So sorry to hear. I think this is way overblown. It's not the Ebola virus. And while social distancing slows the spread, it doesn't prevent it. Some are already saying school will be cancelled for remainder of year, which is just way too soon to be able to know if any of the recent actions taken were effective. Prayers for your wife.

Morning chaps, from the set of 28 days later. I live on the outskirts of the Capital. We are incredibly well provided for in terms of stores. We can WALK IN LESS THAN 10 MINS to, at a conservative estimate - 3 Major Supermarkets, 2 Butchers, 1 Fishmonger, probably about 11 Convenience stores, 3 Petrol Stations, 2 Bakers, a myriad of local shops selling cleaning stuff, 2 Major Chemists/Healthcare shops, OK you get the gist.
Queues outside every supermarket at 9AM this morning (taking into account the stores are not allowed to open until 1030). I was incredulous as I was driving past these people at 9. With my 48 packs of bog roll in the back. (Not really, I was taking the boy to tennis.

See how smart we are in America. We can't walk anywhere to a store and need a car to get everywhere. Wait a minute....

Just for the record, I am NOT that guy in Tennessee

Sure. You got an alibi? Like being in Disneyworld? Glad you made it back safe.

BTW guys, I had the Mods pin this thread to the top of the DisDads forum

Do we post in any of the other threads anymore?

Morning, Gents! It's Monday and that means another work week. So, let's check in and see who's still working, working from home, or going into the office. I'll start: I'm heading in for now. As a temp, I don't get the calls to close...though from what I hear, it's near impossible for this ."place to close. We're closed to the general public, so no need to worry there, but with Gov. Baker ordering no gatherings of more than 25 people I'm not sure what that's going to do for work. Today's the day I'm supposed to be starting in my new department, so I may or may not be able to get online and chat later in the day. I will, however, try it on my phone, though I may screw something up...so we'll see. On the family front the wife is doing better. She drove herself for the first time in four weeks this weekend, I still do most of the driving, but she did drive herself. The DD got the stomach bug Saturday night, poor thing. I got no sleep Saturday night as I was up with her for most of it. Yesterday she spent the day on the couch watching cartoons and relaxing. Hopefully she'll feel better today, and with no school, she can sleep in as late as she wants.

Went to get my driver's license renewed this weekend. Knowing I knew I was going to need it, I ordered a new certified Birth Certificate. It came in Friday when I was at work, so Saturday, knowing the RMV was closed, I headed to the AAA office to get my license renewed. Walked in with all the information needed and waited to be called. When I was called, I walked up and handed the girl behind the counter everything and she started to look through it. She looks at my birth certificate and, well, here's the exchange:

AAA girl: "Excuse me a minute sir." (walks away and heads over to her supervisor)
Me: "Sure."
AAA: (after conversing with her supervisor) "I'm sorry sir, but we can't accept his birth certificate."
Me: "Why not?
AAA: "This birth certificate is from a foreign country."
Me: "A foreign country? Where do you think I was born?"
AAA: "Mexico, sir, it says right up at the top"
Me: "If you read the whole thing, you'll notice it says, NEW Mexico. I was born in NEW Mexico! We became a state in 1912." (shakes my head in disgust at the lack of education)
AAA: "Oh, I'm sorry, sir."
Me: "Mhmm"

Seriously, this isn't the first time this has happened.

Just starting the check in process. Need to make sure everyone is stocked up for the quarantine, do you have the necessary supplies? Beer, rum, scotch, bourbon, chicken wings, pizza, nachos...you know the essentials.

Still going strong here. Went to the store a couple of times this weekend for things we needed, we have plenty of toilet paper, and was able to get most of what I needed, except bread, I couldn't get bread. That's ok, I have alternatives to bread for lunches. Gov. Baker officially closed restaurants and bars yesterday. Restaurants can open for take out only, but no seating, so I'm thinking pizza at some point.

Happy Saturday. Went to go pick up my tennis racquets from being re-strung, and drove by the stores. Social distancing ain't being applied to Walmart or Meijer, the two closest stores. The parking lots looked like Christmas holiday shopping.

All the stores around here looked the same. Unbelievable. People are panicking and it's not good.

Yeah, I'm bummed for dd. She may be #1 in the region this year for tennis. She works year round, so she will be tennis ready - if there is a season.
Sorry about your DD, that's a total bummer.

I can't remember but the 25th is in May so I am hoping to find out.

I haven't watched the news in ages, so thankfully I haven't been getting bombarded with the rehash of news. However, that guy who refuses to self-quarantine? That guy is a major D*&K. Stay home, dude. That's just wrong.

Sorry about the wife panicking, that's gotta be rough. I'm sure asking her to calm down would be like trying to baptize a cat. Sometimes it's just best to let her do her thing and you head to the man cave.

Help me out, Cape Cod Tenor, there must be thousands round your way

It's not my fault y'all live in ridiculously sized countries. It probably takes you 10 mins to drive to the end of your street. 😉

Oh there is. New Bedford, about 30 - 45 minute drive from here, has a large fishing fleet. There's a reason Red Lobster didn't do so well here on Cape Cod, too many places with fresh sea food.

I hadn’t thought about it. Actually, that’s too much work, so...no. 😂
Image result for And remember, this is for posterity so be honest. How do you feel?

Morning, gents...
Need to catch up a bit...

Well... don't need to... I could just post "not going back to read" like a sensible person, but once I started quoting... it was hard to stop... so hear we are.

I can't remember but the 25th is in May so I am hoping to find out.

Really! I thought people were being asked to self-isolate... not being forced to.

Heard about him. I hope he loses his home.

Yikes. Sorry to hear that. Not fun at all. :(

Oh, man...
Hang in there.
I’m not sure my marriage survives coronavirus.
How serious was that comment? Are you worried that might be the case?

:lmao:
There's a tax fairy? Knowing my luck, I'd get that one instead of Tink in her short skirt.
Stupid auto-correct.
Trump banned me from travelling to the US. Starting to pick down the vacation, as now I have something in my hand to say I can't travel.
I'm banned too... but by my work. I can go... but if I do, I have to isolate for 14 days (unpaid) before returning to work.
No-one wants to meet their maker having a cheeky scratch.
Truer words have never been spoken.
I wonder if anyone else in here can say they live less than a 10 minute walk to a fishmonger?
I can say it... just wouldn't be true.
Live about 5 minutes away by car. Ummm… probably about 30? minutes if I walked... Hang on... now I'm curious to see what Google Maps says...

54. But I walk fairly quickly, so... maybe 45-50.

And... as you've found, we don't call them fish mongers.

The Canucks ain't helping you out, here. I'd be very surprised if they called them fish mongers.
Is produce Vegetables?
And fruit.

"Produce is a generalized term for many farm-produced crops, including fruits and vegetables (grains, oats, etc. are also sometimes considered produce). ... In supermarkets, the term is also used to refer to the section of the store where fruit and vegetables are kept."

Just for the record, I am NOT that guy in Tennessee
Me thinks he doth protest too much.
S hits getting real. Just placed a grocery order with Walmart for pick up. I do this every week, but this time there are no available times to pick up, not today, not tomorrow... none at all. 🤬
Not overly surprised... but I think things will begin to settle fairly soon. I mean... how many times can you fill your freezer with bread?
BTW guys, I had the Mods pin this thread to the top of the DisDads forum
It wasn't?
That's why it feels more stable, now.
let's check in and see who's still working, working from home, or going into the office.
I'm considered "essential services", so I go in. There's signs stating you can't enter if you have or could have the virus. We're supposed to wash hands a lot. Doors are propped open where they can be. And instead of phone handsets, we're all required to use headsets now.
Today's the day I'm supposed to be starting in my new department, so I may or may not be able to get online and chat later in the day.
Good luck!

Well, if you're going to be Mexican, might as well come from the New part, ya know.

:rolleyes1

Is it funny or sad that as a foreigner, even I know New Mexico is part of the US?
Logged in early this morning and was able to get 2pm tomorrow. :thumbsup2
See? Getting back to normal already.
Anybody turn into a zombie yet? Nothing going on here, but the day is young.

Brainzzzzzz!

Afternoon fellas, from the mother country.

Last trip out today, I had to go to Birmingham and back today to sign off on a site, I'm watching our buffoon telling me London is pretty much in lockdown. Had tickets for Hamilton on Saturday. The hits just keep on coming.

Got kicked in the nutz from Disney today, as I was using 85 banked points for the trip to Cali, and now they will only put them back into 20, and not allow me to bank again, into 21, even though I can't get there, apparently to protect inventory next year. That's funny they seem to be fine with points being borrowed (which put a strain on inventory this year) as they are being put back into 2021.

So I've got to either use or rent. I'm holding on to the reservation until the last minute now until they cancel the planned re-open on Apr 1, maybe that will help if they are closed, as its then them who I saying I can't come. I doubt it, but I'm am going to push pretty hard, whilst obviously being at my polite best.

It's a bit poor seeing as every other company I have used have proactively emailed and said, have a refund, no strings, including BA, which was a bit of a shocker.

If all else fails I might have to see if I can convince the missus to let me turn up to DDC to use up the points. Silver linings and all that.

Anybody turn into a zombie yet? Nothing going on here, but the day is young.
Uuuurrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhh........

We have a current home delivery slots of +3 weeks, on pretty much every major supermarkets website.
And... as you've found, we don't call them fish mongers.
So, the person who works there is a "Fish Market Worker"? I can't help but think our referral term has more of a poetic ring to it.
He donated it all.
Good.

That's brutal. Hopefully if they push things back through April that will help your case. It's been interesting to watch and see which owners/ companies are doing the right thing and which ones are nickel-and-diming their customers and staff through this mess.

So I just left my local supermarket and honestly it was shocking. No toilet paper left at all. 😫😫Reluctantly, I headed to the customer service desk to ask if they had anymore. The lady said no and gave me a really disgusting look 😳 Walking back to the toilet with my pants around my ankles is a walk I never want to do again.
