DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning, O Captains, my captains. The UK tiptoes towards total lockdown with these daily updates that we are getting from that ridiculously coifferred posh boy we seem to have as a national leader.
Schools are likely to shut down on Friday, the rumour is that it will be for 4 MONTHS :scared1:. Apart from that in Day 9 of working from home. All I seem to do at the minute is model risk. Watching free agency frenzy on NFL network, if I watch any more rolling news I'm gonna put a rock through the screen. Brady is off from the Patriots. That will be weird seeing him another uniform.

He did!?!? Huge loss. Not concerned at all.
Attaboy.
The gym and showers are now off limits.
So, "towel flicking Wednesday" is off? Brutal.

Steak and Eggs for dinner, Keto and OMAD has got me down to 185 pounds.

Have a great day y'all.

Just cleared my calendar through May. The word came down from the top of the Ivory Tower that no in-person meetings will happen until after the end of the semester. Students are being sent home by the end of the week and will have to do on-line learning. Doesn't effect me as I am 2 hours away but my teaching colleagues might be scrambling. I wonder how they are going to be teaching welding, nursing, etc. remotely? Stay sane gentlemen and remember this too shall pass. It may pass like a kidney stone but it will pass.

4 months... :faint:

My hope is that they are swinging from "wildly optimistic" a week ago to "wildly pessimistic" now and that the actual number is less than that. I have no basis for this, just hoping.

Hey, nice work!:thumbsup2

This is going to be such a weird time.

Still alive.

Cancelling church services is a great idea Norm. If you don't think so, just look at Northern Italy. Much of the spread there was due to people still attending church. Not sure why they would still ask staff to go to work. As for celebrating your faith, you don't really need a church to do that.

We can certainly pray anywhere, but we still need Mass. We will disagree, and can have that debate another time.

4 months is absurd. I read where 1.6 million people died from tuberculosis in 2017. I don't remember hearing anything about that in the media at that time.

I thought you all measured weight in stones?

Again, absurd. Sometime just doesn't feel right about this whole thing. Social distance, close schools, close churches but continue to go to work and be around other people. Those two thoughts are not congruent.

It's all about minimizing contact. When you have large gathering the virus can be easily spread to many people. In many work situations, the number of people you come in contact with in a small space is much lower thus you help flatten the curve.

segregate staff?
No details yet, and I have a few days off, but...

Speaking to a manager this morning and he was saying that when staff members are on break, they'll not be allowed to other floors of the building and will have their own designated areas in the cafeteria based on which area they work in. I guess the idea is if one sector gets hit, it won't spread to other sectors?
I think it's mostly out of an abundance of caution and seeing how fast this thing spreads.
The models I looked at (that did not include any vaccine or medication since there isn't any as of this moment) showed that no matter what kind of isolation we pick, everyone will get it.

Everyone.

(I will assume this does not include remote areas that are never visited by others... I think there's still one tribe somewhere that this affects.)
I'm sure they're mapping the spread of the virus and using models to predict it based on the spread/growth.
See above.

You know what? I know you're just trying to make light of the situation, but it's actually very serious.

Towel flicking is on Tuesdays... and it's loss will be felt by all.
Or rather, not felt... depending on whether you are the flicker or the flickee.

Evening everyone, haven't been around in a while, been dealing with some health issues.
Still have to go to work, so trying to stay as safe as possible, Hopfully this situation pass as quickly as possible, so we can to normal.

Ever feel like this.......OpenWearyAdder-size_restricted.gif

Welcome back. Hope you are on the mend and stay healthy. As I once heard it said, "You are either heading out of the wilderness, in the wilderness, or heading into the wilderness". Life is always in flux and there is little we can do about it other than hang on, keep our hope up, and help out our fellow travelers.

Hey, Gents! Hope everyone is doing well on this Wednesday. My wife and I are getting over the stomach bug, given to us by our lovely and talented DD, she's such a sweetheart for sharing that with us, and I'm feeling good enough to head into work today...so we'll see how that goes. I got over it pretty quickly, but my wife took it pretty hard. I suspect she had it worse because she's still recovering and, thus, her immune system isn't up to full strength. With schools officially being closed, my DD's school has implemented a distance learning thing, whereby the parents log into the school's site, and thus into our child's class, and the teacher teaches from home, via the internet. With all of us being sick yesterday, we didn't get to do this, but apparently it works pretty well from what I hear.

On the job front: I'm still looking, but with this coronovirus thing happening I'm sure interviews won't be happening anytime soon. At least I have a job for the moment, a temp job, but a job.

I'm considered "essential services", so I go in. There's signs stating you can't enter if you have or could have the virus. We're supposed to wash hands a lot. Doors are propped open where they can be. And instead of phone handsets, we're all required to use headsets now.

What's nice about my work is that we are a manufacturing company, so no public access, so unless someone comes to work with the virus, we're staying open.

Good luck!

Thanks, but it appears that my new boss isn't quite ready for me, so he just keeps pushing me back off onto my old boss, thus I keep working in the stockroom. You see, our Director of Operations was fired and my new boss took on her duties, so he's a little overwhelmed. So maybe by the time the contract ends my new boss will be ready for me to work with him.

Well, if you're going to be Mexican, might as well come from the New part, ya know.

:rolleyes1

Is it funny or sad that as a foreigner, even I know New Mexico is part of the US?

:teeth: I could say something but it could considered

And I think it's sad that as a foreigner, you know more about US states that an actual American.

It's NAFTA here on these boards with Canadians, Americans, and now a Mexican. We even have a Briton.

That it is.

Heeeeyyyy yooooooooooo Guyyyyy-yyyyyyys (Goonies is on the TV). Morning from a eerily quiet London.
Kids still at school, a 4 hr conference call in about an hour on how/do we take advantage of the stores being shut (LEGO closed all of its self operated doors today)

Welcome back Rob, hopefully you (or whoever it may be) are on the mend. Nice to hear from you mate.

Course it is. I hang my illliterative head in shame.
That is what I have...breakfastsecondbreakfastelevensieslunchafternoonteadinnersupper
Also known as the "Hobbit Diet"
We can certainly pray anywhere, but we still need Mass.
Almost all of our churches are shut. Which is interesting as it's times like this that some feel the need to go. Kinda like buying insurance after you hit another car.
We even have a Briton.
who? burn him! splitter...

Morning All.

Day two of working from home and once again I am at the office. Brought DW's car in for an oil change and the shop said customers were not allowed to stay. Luckily it is close to the office and I have a conference call in an hour so the office it shall be. Pretty quiet here though. ;)

Stay safe all.

Ugh. Can't stand stomach bugs. I hope that's the only sickness you'll have for a long time!

Sounds like the way to take advantage is to find the one with that big roller coaster set and help yourself. I always thought that one looked like a fun build.

Morning from a snowy Westfield NB., Thanks for the well wishes guys. I'm waiting to hear from hospital, to see if my surgery is s on for next week. They have canceled some types of surgery because of the outbreak, mine is still on the high priority side ,so I'm hoping for the best. Stay healthy guys.
