Excellent news.

Well, his friends may follow you to another group. Or, it is another part of life's lessons. When a situation isn't right, you don't have to accept it and say there are no other options.

Great news.

Fortunately, I didn't have student loans when I graduated because I worked and paid my way thru. I didn't go to medical school, and tuition at UL was less than $1K per semester and my apartment was $235 per month. My employer paid for my Master's Degree conditionally upon a 2 year work contract. So, as you said, there are options out there,

Morning Dave. Everything still go for next Saturday?

Yes! Sending a PM your way

Well....I may have updated my TR that happens to have a link in my signature....just sayin

Awesome smelling chili in the crockpot....watching Harry Potter, going to pop on the Muppets soon, enjoying ice-cold cider (not the kid-friendly version ;) )which is good, this place is reading 28.7 Celcius...:headache: Nice relaxing afternoon. Just some running down to the laundry room to do laundry.

So, are you single at the house for 3 months?

Yes I am, though I have had numerous phone calls already so it isn't really a vacation other than I have 90% less dishes, cleaning, and laundry to do. I'll try to get up as often on the weekends as possible but it won't be every weekend. Gas is too expensive.

Congrats. I convinced DW we needed a summer trip to WDW. Since we are out of DVC points, we looked online thru WDW and almost booked one. But, it was about $2K for the week and I need to find an extra $2K in our budget.

For the 2nd time this week I must improve my odds of the Nov trip, mon it was 50/50, weds after booking it became 95/5, now after going to a campfire at my friends house and hearing my wife talking to his wife on how she has to make sure she will have off those days:thumbsup2 I'm now placing the odds at 99/1:cool1: I't's good to be King:worship:

I'll take your word for it. :lmao:

...
:thumbsup2 Spent my day in Scoutmaster training yesterday while my DW shuttled the kids to sports. Felt pretty guilty, but at least now I'm fully trained, and it will give me some additional options with this disaster of a troop I'm a part of. Unfortunately, DD#2 doesn't like the other neighboring troop (his friends are in the bad troop which I think is part of it), while DS#1 does. Sure would be easier to pull them out of scouts all together, but I really do believe that the program would be good for both of them. So we're back to considering starting another troop in town. More to follow I'm sure...
...
Thought I'd share some very good news today. Some of you know that I had crazy amounts of student loans from college and med school (well over 200K) when I graduated (my parents were not very good about saving for education, a mistake that my DW and I are NOT repeating!). Anyway, for the last 6 years, I've been fortunate enough to get a loan repayment award from the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and today I got notice that I was approved for my last renewal (since I will be all paid off!). You have to renew every 2 years, and the application process is fairly extensive. For those of you who have large student loans, or have family with them, I highly encourage you to look into repayment programs. Mine is from the NIH for research, but there are public health awards for working in underserved areas, and the military has some great ones too.

Best wishes with the scouts. My son's Webelos leader was planning on quitting so I'm not sure what our options will be.

Congratulations on the student loan payoff. I made it through all but the Ph.D. without loans and they would have been small but since I was a student we decided to send DW through to get her degree finally. Private, women's college that cater's too non-traditional students but you pay for it. :headache: I worked at Target while I was doing my post-doc to pay it off. Unfortunately we aren't able to put much away for the kids so I am hoping that they get scholarships and think about the Guard or the Reserves to get some money.

The kid got home yesterday afternoon after her date's dad took them to lunch. She spent the night in a hotel room with 4 other girls. The dates were in another room and one of the kid's parents chaperoning in another room. She wanted to go out to see some friends but crashed instead. Asleep now for about 13 hours.

A couple of pictures I posted on Facebook:

And the prom pose

You may notice the kid that dared ask my little girl to the prom has his arms around her. Reports are that he will be out of traction in a few weeks.

According to her, a good time was had by all.

Beautiful! I wish him a slow recovery with lots of time to think about what where he should have kept his hands. :lmao:

Hey guys. We've been planning a trip for what seems like forever. Right now, it looks like we'll be staying at the Swan at the end of August.

Anyone ever stay there? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!

Ever stay there? No.

Thoughts? :woohoo::banana::cool1: Congratulations!

Suggestions? Dole whips, Garden Grill, TTA, IASW, etc. Summed up as "ENJOY!"

Cloudy and the sun is behind the mountains. No eclipse for me tonight.

Thanks. Definitely doing those things.

I like the Dole Whip Floats, myself. Also plan on trying Beverly at Club Cool, so I can cross that off my list of things not to get, along with turkey legs.

I'll be going with my family, my sister-in-law and her family, and my in-laws. That's 10 of us in total. It should be insane and hectic and fun.

Have never been there, but I will be visiting there in August to eat at Schula's:thumbsup2

Over the last 2 weeks I've seen the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales on Tv, 5 times now on 3 different channels , It's a great movie, but I think it's being played more now then when it came out in 1976:lmao: Now if they could play The Good The Bad & The Ugly, and Two Mules For Sister Sarah, all together it would be a great TV night:thumbsup2

I stayed there a few years ago. Rooms are very nice, hotel is as well. Not as Disney Themed as some others, but every bit as nice as the other Deluxes. I liked it very much. My one piece of advice would be to hit the ice cream bar downstairs in the Swan. I forget the name of it, but it was terrific, and I've never heard of it outside of the resort.

Enjoy! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Looks like I'm the first and only member from New Mexico.

Oh man! You just beat me! hehe... Hopefully you won't be only NM member for long...

"Hi, my name is Brad, and I am a Disneyaholic"
For several years, this has been my mantra. My wife is looking for professional help for me, but problem is they can't help you if you don't want it.

I went to DL for the 1st time in 1975. Then served as a Youth Pastor in Long Beach,CA for 6 years, and had many trips to DL with the youth. But honestly, my Disney obsession didn't start until 1999 when I stood watching Minnie holding my beautiful 3-month old baby girl and I knew I would never be the same. Since then, we have never missed a year without Disney.

SO what would qualify me to be a Disney Dad?
  • Many trips to DL, marched in the Disney Parades wearing a tutu with my little girls
  • Took our 5th wheel out one year and parked in RV park next door
  • Bought into DVC, and decided we were going to make Disney our yearly family vacation no matter what else we did

For 13 years, we have made Disney such a total part of our lives, and I absolutely LOVE planning, dreaming, researching, learning. We just went on the new Dream in November, and then for our 25th Anniversary, we left the kids behind to take a special trip just for us. So where did we want to go for our special trip... another Disney cruise of course. Just got back from an MR cruise.

It would be an honor to join your fraternity and share my passion (my wife says addiction) for all things Disney
