Sleep?? What's that?? LOL Remember the teens that were at our hotel for grad week? Well, I don't think they wanted sleep. We got TWO prank calls during the night and were woken up many times from laughing and swearing noises coming from outside our room. Ugh! Thank heavens for Mickey's friendly voice on our wake up call to perk me right up! We contemplated changing rooms, but decided we were only there for a short while and would spend most of our time in the parks. When we left our room to get to the Magic Kingdom for early entry, we noticed that there were no teens about. I guess they preferred sleeping through the day rather than at night. My "evil twin" wanted to bang some pots and pans down the hallways, but decided........I was in Disney!
That may not be the best thing to do in the "happiest place on earth"!
Don't get me wrong.......I generally like young people (heck, I'm not even 30 yet), but these particular people really tried my patience!
I decided to forget about it and head to the Magic Kingdom! It was pretty rainy this morning, but thankfully it cleared after a few hours and there was no more rain the rest of the trip! We got there right at 8am and made a beeline to Buzz. Okay, I've been on this ride many times before and can usually get over 500,000 without much difficulty but today I managed to get less than 50,000!! I tried to convince dh that the ride was rigged, but he almost maxed out and didn't buy my story! Go figure!
It was time to get my Space Mountain fix so away we went. It was fun as ever, but I still think the left side is better (and it wasn't open yet today). We decided to head to Fantasyland and had to walk right by Winnie the Pooh since it was closed. I'm glad I knew that prior to our trip or I'd be disappointed. Thank you DIS!! We walked right on Snow White and only had a 15min. wait on Peter Pan. I can't imagine waiting for over an hour for this ride as I've seen many times. We did It's A Small World before leaving Fantasyland. It was now 9am and the rest of the MK was now open.
Next stop is probably my favourite MK ride - the Haunted Mansion! The line really made me giggle. People were basically only lining up on the left far wall leaving a lot of open space on the right. Yet, CM's always tell you to occupy ALL the space (fast pass wasn't available today). Dh and I walked on the right hand side and motioned for everyone else to follow. People hesitated, but finally did follow. A CM walked by at that time and said, "thank you" to us. I guess people basically "follow the herd". Hey, it works for us though as we've been able to get on rides quicker due to this phenomenon! I was so pleased on the ride as we were able to locate the infamous "skeleton wolf" and "Grim Reaper" holding a hidden mickey! We had been looking for these two things for a few years so it was so exciting to find these discoveries! Okay......so the little things really DO thrill me!
We continued through our MK tour and went on Thunder Mountain. There was a school group there with plastic cubs filled with water and what looked like a straw in each cup. They must've been conducting some kind of experiment on the ride? We almost went on Splash Mountain next, but it was too rainy still and dh didn't want to feel wet the rest of the day. He promised we would ride it later that week. Next stop was the Pirates of the Caribbean followed by the Jungle Cruise. Our guide was particularly good this time. At the end of the ride, he made the usual joke about the boat between two docks and then he pointed at his fellow cast members and called them a pair of dorks! It was pretty funny. The Tiki Bird show was just beginning so we made a mad dash over there. The final jokes after most people leave are really quite funny. It's too bad most people have left by this time. Iyago jokes that he's going to leave the theatre and go take a nap in the Hall Of Presidents! We decided to check out the Country Bear Jamboree before taking the boat over to Trail's End Restaurant at Pioneer Hall.
We always look forward to this reasonably priced lunch buffet. We got there just as it opened. One of the servers came out with one of those triangles (what are they called??) that he hit with a stick while yelling, "come and get it"! It was pretty fun, giving you that "coming home" feeling! After eating far too much food (LOVE their fried chicken!), we took the bus to MGM. There were lots of peacocks running around on our walk to the bus. First stop was watching Four for a Dollar (the preshow to Beauty in the Beast). In a matter of 2hrs, we went on Rockin' Rollercoaster twice, Tower of Terror twice and saw 2 shows by Four For a Dollar! Not a bad way to kill some time! ha ha We were really happy with the new sequences at Tower of Terror. It really takes the ride to a new level not knowing exactly what will happen. We also saw the secret message at the bottom of the board in the lobby. Check it out next time you're there! When walking out of RNC, I suddenly thought I heard a familiar voice. I followed the voice and realized that it was Matt the Juggler (who used to do the preshow to the Hunchback of Notre Dame). I was so pleased!!! He now does a street act with another guy on Sunset Blvd. I had an urge to run up to him and give him a hug, but he was doing some fancy juggling so I figured it may not be too appropriate!
I'm glad to know he's still performing in Disney.
We had a little time before we had to leave so we decided to watch the Little Mermaid show ( love the Under the Sea song with all the puppets) and made it to the Muppets. This is still dh's favourite attraction at MGM. The preshow makes him laugh even more than the actual show! It was now time to go so we took the bus to the Contemporary. I really wanted to find the 5 legged goat on the mural on the way up to the monorail. We found it with no problem! I don't know why we never noticed it there before. We wanted to take the monorail to the Polynesian for the torch lighting ceremony. We had never seen this show before. For anyone who is interested, it's at 6pm daily. It was fun to see. There's a "prince" who does some fancy dancing with fire and a woman singing. It was only about 10min, but it was fun to experience. We decided to share a turkey croissant at the counter service restaurant there. I just love the Polynesian and hope we can stay there sometime in the future.
After dinner, we went to the beach of the Poly and lay down on the hammock while sipping pina colada's. Ahhhh! Heavenly! Isn't this what vacation is all about? We decided to head back to the Magic Kingdom (by boat) because Spectromagic and Fantasy in the Sky were on tonight. Originally there wasn't going to be either the parade or fireworks during our trip so since the schedule changed, we figured we should definitely take advantage of it! We hopped on the train and went right to Toon Town. I love wandering around there and seeing all the smiling little faces. We decided to give Buzz another whirl and STILL my score was pitiful! I was determined to redeem myself later on this trip. It was VERY crowded now so we decided to ride the TTA. I love the TTA at night as Tomorrowland is lit up so beautifully. We had time to do Alien Encounter before the parade. The show still gives me goosebumps! What fun. We went to Liberty Square via Fantasyland and got a great spot for the parade. We're both tall so we can generally see over people. Thus we don't need to line up early (we got there 10min. before the parade went by). I just love this parade!
The fireworks were about to begin and we decided to take advice we got on the DIS and watch them just in front of Liberty Tree Tavern. I was a little worried how good the view would be, but BOY! It's terrific! It's not crowded over there and you have an unobstructed view. You can't see tinkerbell from there, but we didn't mind. Thanks Dan for giving us this tip!!!!! We took a leisurely walk out of the park and saw that the Electrical Water Parade was on! I hadn't caught this parade for a few years so that was a nice surprise. We went to our busstop and had to wait 45min. for a bus! That's sooo hard to do after a long day at the park when you're an adult, let alone a child. There were countless crying children about. I felt for these families. By the time we did manage to get back to our room, I crossed my fingers that we'd be able to sleep tonight with no unwelcomed noise. Stay tuned!!
