Cast of Adventurers
Me: Shelly Disney Nut and wanting to go back to WDW for 12 plus years.
DH: Warren Converted Disney Nut
DS: Brandon, Age 7 Being raised right (a Disney Nut)
The question was would we or wouldn't we. Make it to Castaway Cay of course. Although we were tempting fate by cruising in the middle of hurricane season we had absolutely gorgeous weather the entire time. We got up and ate breakfast at the Beach Blanket Buffet. Now I know that it might lack in quality but oh did it make up for it in scenery. Besides Warren is happy as long as the quantity is sufficient. Ouch! stop kicking me under the table dear.
We wore our swim suits under our clothes and brought our beach bag with us to breakfast so we could leave for the beach immediately. We dropped Brandon off at the kids club and headed over to serenity bay. All of the hammocks were already taken and we were among the first off the ship. Next time I'll camp out by the gangplank. We were however able to secure an umbrella and chairs. I grabbed a virgin Konch Kooler and settled back. It was a long expanse of beautiful beach and well deserving of the name serenity. We saw fish and were strolling hand in hand when we heard an obnoxious noise. It was the sound of beeper from the kid's program and some sixth sense told us that it was ours. I really wish they would make these waterproof.
We finally walked all the way back to read a very cryptic message that said Brandon needed to be picked up. It took forever for the tram to pull up and we were worried that Brandon was in a Tourette storm. He does not have these very often, but when he does look out. They're like a severe temper tantrum only worse. We had visions of our day being ruined because they were kicking him out of the club for good. The longer we waited for the tram, the more upset I became.
When we got back we found him happily eating with the rest of the group. The counselor was requesting that we take him out of the club for a while as a teaching moment but as she put it, he was acting mouthy like any other 7-year-old will act. We did take him out and advised him that any other outbursts like that would cause him to miss the kids club for the rest of the cruise whether they would take him back or not. Happily he did not miss out the rest of the day. It might have had something to do with the fact that we encouraged him to behave well as we had cabana massages scheduled that afternoon. OK we bribed him with a gift from the shop if we did not get paged.
By this time I was pretty stressed. It was also hot and between the two I lost my appetite. That almost never happens, I mean I usually eat dinner food for breakfast first thing in the morning. I felt so bad because the food looked good but I could not muster up the enthusiasm to eat. The other problem was that I wanted water. They kept trying to offer me fruit punch or lemonade but I really had to hunt to find water. Eventually I did find a glass of it in one of the food lines.
After my two men finished eating and I finished nibbling, Warren and Brandon headed into the water at the family beach. Of course since we had spent the morning at Serenity Bay, we did not have any space reserved on the beach. Happily someone was kind enough to allow me to sit in one of the chairs that was grouped with their stuff by an umbrella. If I would have had to sit in the sun I don't think I would have made it. Thank you nice people. I think that while you might run into a few rude people, most people if given half a chance are pretty nice.
It was then time for mine and Warren's cabana massages. We gave Brandon an incentive for good behavior if we didn't get paged and warnings of a punishment if we did. We told him he could choose something in the gift shop if he was well behaved and that he would miss out on the rest of the kids club activities if he was not. Then we told the counselors that we had massages scheduled but that of course if he was ill behaved we needed to know. They were understanding. We didn't get paged! Yeah!
The open air massages were nice but not something we are planning on doing again. For one thing you wear your swimsuit and mine did not allow her good enough access to my low back. I felt like part of the massage was missing. If they had a way to allow enough privacy to allow you undress and be draped for the massage then it would be heaven! There is nothing quite like the mellow breezes blowing past, hearing the ocean while someone is soothing away all tension and stress. I also like a very firm massage which I don't believe any of the therapists really give from what I've read on the boards.
We picked up Brandon in time to watch him have his picture taken with Mickey. It is a priceless photo. Then we headed back to get cleaned up. Next on the agenda was to have Brandon be in the kids show since he had been practicing with them. He then tells us that he doesn't want to. We coax and question and finally he tells us that he doesn't feel like he can do the hand signals (sign language) well enough. I tell him that he can go up on stage and just stand there and I would be so proud of him. Especially since I now know that he is scared. I tell him that mothers love seeing their children no matter what or how well they do it. He isn't completely convinced so then I bribe him with a dollar. (What has happened to me? I never bribe him. Have I lost all sanity or is it something they put in the water that makes you want to spend money? To this day I will never know.) I knew I had him when he said, "How about for five dollars?" I told him to not be ridiculous and that he was getting one and to scoot.
The show was precious and if you have children you should not miss it. Someone suggested that they should tape it and sell it. Frankly it is not a bad idea. We then get ready for our last dinner and it is sinking in that our vacation is almost over. Brandon doesn't want to go to dinner with us, but the counselor persuades him since we are eating at Animators tonight. Brandon took his camera and we have several pictures of the plates and silverware.
We had a good time watching the colors change. The veal we had for dinner was also very good. The only downside was that Warren had ordered an anniversary cake for us that night and by the time they finally brought it out the restaurant was almost empty. We dropped Brandon off at the club and started packing up our stuff until it was time for Disney Dreams. I don't know if I had heard too many rave reviews or what the problem was but I thought Dreams was just pretty good but nothing special. Maybe I was just depressed we were leaving. Who knows.
We finished packing up our stuff. Do we really have this much? Yuck. Then we spent a few minutes in the hot tub. We never made it to any of the night spots despite our intentions. We were just too pooped each night. We did remember to set out clothes for the next day and set out our luggage. We exchanged our pager for our boy. It was a pretty good trade, I'll keep him. We then closed our eyes for our last night. Dear, please set the alarm. We have to.
